He was a native of Richland County, S.C., a deacon, pastoral care leader and member of the finance committee of his church, a former member of the State Finance and Appropriations Committee, retired from Melrose Hosiery Mill and Drexel Heritage Showroom, and the widower of Rosa Pickens Waden and Estella M. Bailey Bright Waden.
Surviving are sons, Fletcher N. Waden Jr. of Winston-Salem and James O. Holloway of Canton, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
