Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Philip Birchall and the Rev. Don McCaskill officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Guilford County, a board member at his church, assistant Cub Master of Pack 111 and a member and vice president of the Uwharrie Bass Club.
Surviving are wife, Rachel McCaskill of the home; son, Dylan McCaskill of the home; daughter, Emily McCaskill of the home; father, Alex McCaskill of Laurinburg; mother, Tealy McCaskill of Seagrove; sister, Melissa Upchurch of Steeds; grandparents, Rachel McCaskill of Biscoe, Nettie Hancock of Seagrove; stepson, Scott Reynolds of Candor.

He was a native of Poza Rica, Mexico, a deacon at Siler City Church of God and employed with Townsend Inc.

BISCOE - R. Woodrow Robbins, 87, of 429 E. Main St., died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at his home.

He was a native of Montgomery County and owner and operator of Biscoe Grocery for over 40 years.

He was a native of Guilford County, a member of the United Methodist Men, a member of the Railway Worker's Union, employed with Southern Railway for 36 years and a tobacco and cattle farmer.

She was a native of Moore County, retired from the Randolph County School Cafeteria and a member of the Church of Christ.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and an employee with Burrow Cleaners.

John J. Russell
MT. GILEAD - John "Johnny" Jacob Russell, 79, of 130 E. First St., died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial, with military honors, will be in Sharon Cemetery.
He was a native of Troy, the widower of Connie Harvelle Russell, a graduate of Star School and a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He worked for Hudson-Belk and Moore's department stores in Asheboro, worked in shipbuilding in Newport News, Va., was the retired founder of Russell-Harvelle Hosiery Mills Inc. in Mt. Gilead and managed a timber farm. He served on the Mt. Gilead Town Board, helped organize a county wide volunteer fire commission, was a volunteer fireman and chief, and instrumental in the building of two fire stations. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner, a member of the American Legion, the Civitans, where he was president, and on the Mt. Gilead School and West Montgomery High School Boards. He was on the building committee and other committees at his church, and a member of the Board of Directors of First Bank, formerly Bank of Montgomery. He was a Boy Scout volunteer, received the Silver Beaver Award, was president of the Central N.C. Boy Scout Council and in 1996, awarded the Boy Scouts' highest volunteer honor by being inducted into the "1910 Society." He was Post Commander of the local VFW Post 10940 and managed its honor guard.
Surviving are sons, John Jacob Russell Jr., Michael Alan "Mike" Russell, both of Mt. Gilead; daughter, Deborah Anne "Debbie" Russell of Mt. Gilead; brothers, Paul Russell of Troy, Silas Russell, H.R. "Bobby" Russell, both of Star; sisters, Elma Holt of Troy, Lucy Stout of Greensboro; two grandsons.
