EAGLE SPRINGS - Florence Gerritzen Chriscoe, 78, of 7176 N.C. 705, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in Tucson, Ariz.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Crossroads Baptist Church, Robbins, where she was a member, with the Rev. Mike Holyfield officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.

She was a native of New Rochelle, N.Y., the widow of Clarence E. Chriscoe, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a retired LPN at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Surviving are son, Robert E. Lee of Texas; brother, David Lambert of Tucson, Ariz.; stepson, Modie Clifford Chriscoe of Robbins; stepdaughter, Betty Lou Chriscoe of Eagle Springs; four grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of the stepdaughter.

Rev. John Goodyear
NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Rev. John Goodyear, 61, of 6801 S.W. 7th Court, formerly of Glendon and Greensboro, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, in Florida.

Funeral service will be Saturday at Faith Baptist Church, Margate, Fla.

He was a former minister at Glendon Christian Church in Glendon and Crusade Baptist Church in Greensboro.

Surviving are wife, Barbara D. Goodyear of the home; four sons.

Jenning Funeral Home, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., is in charge of the arrangements.

L.R. Auman Jr.
ASHEBORO - L.R. Auman Jr., 74, of 1061 Bunting Road, Asheboro, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Richard R. Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery with military honors.

He was a native of Randolph County, a member of American Legion Post #45, a member of the Randolph County Honor Guard and retired from the U.S. Army and as manager of Southern Motors.

Surviving are wife, Viola M. Auman; daughters, Doris A. Thompson, Diane A. Moorefield, both of Asheboro; son, Donald Auman; sisters, Verdie Freeman, Lucille Freeman, both of Asheboro, Annie Belle Strider of Asheville; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

ASHEBORO - Stanley Andrew Wagner, 58, of 1007 Draper St., Asheboro, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Covenant Christian Church, with Pastor Lois Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

He was a native of Mountain City, Tenn., and employed with Sara-Lee of Asheboro.

Surviving are wife, Dorotha I. Wagner of the home; daughters, Lavanta Wagner of Urbana, Ill., Stephanie Wagner, Donna Wagner, both of Bristol, Tenn.; sons, Lee Wagner of Thomasville, Ga., Stanley P. Wagner of Bristol, Tenn., Tyrome Tinnin of Asheboro, Jermaine Wagner of the home; sisters, Ruby Widby of Statesville, Barbara Richmond of Bristol, Va.; six grandchildren.

C.C. Hodges Funeral Service, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert E. Nelson
BISCOE - Robert Eugene Nelson, 49, of 1920 N.C. 24/27 East, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Community Baptist Church, with the Rev. Fred Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam veteran and employed with the Montgomery County Schools System.

Surviving are wife, Brenda Nelson of Biscoe; son, Robert Scott Nelson of Ether; mother, Marceline Smith Nelson of Troy; sister, Shelia Treece of Troy; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Maudie M. Lewis
ASHEBORO - Maudie Mae Dunn Maynor Lewis, 93, formerly of Asheboro, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Adrian Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Daniel Lewis, retired from Randolph Hospital, and a member of Fayetteville Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are four grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until service time on Sunday.

Ruth E. Stewart
ASHEBORO - Ruth Elizabeth Stewart, 82, of 1198 Thoroughbred Road, Asheboro, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.

No service is planned at this time.

She was a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School of Winston-Salem and a saw operator for a furniture manufacturer.

Surviving are niece, Jean Cooper of the home; one grandson; one great-granddaughter.

Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Faye H. Adams
RANDLEMAN - Faye Hudson Adams, 83, of 6679 Walker Mill Road, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center, Trinity.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Level Cross United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ken Day officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Columbia, S.C., the widow of Lacy Adams and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Lacy Van Adams Jr. of Randleman; daughter, Nancy Farlow of Randleman; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

ASHEBORO - Stella Poindexter Tate, 83, of 225 Sunset Drive North, Asheboro, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at her daughter's home, 3763 N.C. 22 North, Franklinville.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be in Giles Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Surry County, the widow of Lincoln Tate, retired from Smart Style of Asheboro and a member of Willow Lane Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Robert Tate of Asheboro; daughter, Kathy T. Davis of Franklinville; sisters, Hallie Brown, Inez Davis, both of Asheboro; brothers, Marvin Poindexter of Candor, Arnie Poindexter of Asheboro; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Ina C. Cobb
HIGH POINT - Ina Chernault Cobb of Wesley Long Nursing Center, died Sunday, August 12, 2001.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. William Slater officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

She was a native of Asheboro, the widow of James Coe Chernault and Harold Cobb, and employed by Clyde Pearson Company for 21 years as a credit manager and in customer service. She was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, member of the adult choir and the Singing Nightingales at her church. She was a member of the Intercessory Prayer Group and previous prayer leader of the Central Baptist Association, and a member of the Hum and Hoe Garden Club.

Surviving are sons, James Coe Chernault Jr., John Parks Chernault, both of High Point; stepdaughters, Janet Sipes, Judy Tobin, both of Thomasville; sister, Treva Neal of Asheboro; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point, 7-8:30 p.m. Monday.

John Riddle
CARTHAGE - John "Lum" Riddle, 84, of Carthage, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport.

A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Monday at Peacock-Newnam Funeral Home, Southport.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Carthage, where he was a member, with the Rev. Tom Herndon officiating. Burial will be in Cross Hill Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.

He was a native of Carthage, retired from the N.C. Department of Correction, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post 12 and Masonic Lodge #181 AF&AM.

Surviving are wife, Carlton Fry Riddle; son, Johnny Riddle of Oak Island; daughter, Irene Riddle of Alameda, Calif.; brother, Sam Riddle of Carthage; sister, Mary Liddle of Seattle, Wash.; one grandson.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8 p.m. Tuesday.

BASSETT, Va. - Charlie Lee Atkins, 83, of 134 Oak Ridge Drive, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Level Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Len Keever officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Ferrum, Va.

He was a native of Franklin County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired from W.M. Bassett Furniture Co. after more than 30 years and a former member of Oak Level Ruritan Club and Bassett American Legion Post 11.

Surviving are wife, Lora Jones Atkins of the home; daughter, Linda A. Gusler of Asheboro; son, Audie L. Atkins of Bassett, Va.; sisters, Minnie Elsie Radford of Blacksburg, Va., Midge Hollandsworth of Bassett, Va., Olivia Quinn of Ferrum, Va.; brothers, Grover Atkins of Blacksburg, Va., Mawyer Brogan of Bassett, Va.; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Collins Funeral Home, Bassett, Va., 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Wayne Dunn officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a former employee of Liberty Hosiery Mill and Kelwood.

Surviving are husband, Paul Smith of the home; sister, Effie Shelton of Liberty.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Donna Cheek, 2110 Staley Store Road, Liberty.

LIBERTY - Charles Ross Snider, 72, of 3913 Randolph Church Road, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Red Cross Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bud Rowe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Forsyth County, the widower of Doris A. Snider, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of American Legion Post 81 and a retired brick mason.

Surviving are daughters, Wanda S. Buckmaster, Freda S. Rumley, both of Liberty; sons, Charles Edward Snider, Jimmy Snider, both of Liberty; sister, Larue Whitaker of Climax; brother, Lloyd B. Snider of Alabama; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Charles E. Snider, 3846 Randolph Church Road, Liberty.

SILER CITY - Thomas C. Alston Sr. of 1776 Bowers Store Road, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at SunBridge Care Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Evans Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

He was a native of Chatham County, a retired receiving clerk with Siler City Mfg. Company and a member of Light of the World Lodge #711.

Surviving are wife, Vallie L. Alston; daughters, Margaret A. Finney of Virginia Beach, Va., Dorothy H. Simms of Rochester, N.Y.; sons, Thomas C. Alston Jr. of Athens, Ga., William D. Alston of Monroe; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will see be at the church 10-11 a.m. Wednesday.

Truman D. Duncan Sr.
SILER CITY - Truman Delano Duncan Sr., 52, of 192 Willie Duncan Road, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at his home.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rocky River Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Greg W. Burris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and a carpenter.

Surviving are son, Truman D. Duncan Jr. of Bonlee; daughter, Crystal Renee Duncan of Sanford; father, Willie A. Duncan of Siler City; mother, Myrtice Cooper Duncan of Siler City; sister, Joyce Tally of Bear Creek; brother, John B. Duncan of Siler City; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the church one hour before the service on Wednesday.

THOMASVILLE - Hoyt K. Luther, 87, of Britthaven of Davidson Nursing Home, formerly of Denton Road, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at the nursing home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Hugh Biggers and the Rev. Phillip Morrow officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a former deacon and a member of his church Sunday school, retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries and a member of the North Carolina Dry Kiln Association.

Surviving are wife, Callie Harvel Luther of the home; daughter, Emma Albright of Thomasville; son, Harold Dean Luther of Thomasville; brother, Moses L. Luther of Asheboro; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 1:30-2 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service.
