Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Dover Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Don Davis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Moore County, the widow of the late Master Sgt. Robert G. Quale and a retired bookkeeper.
Surviving is brother, J. Paul Stutts of Seagrove.

HIGH POINT - Joe William Lawson, 58, of 3501 Brandemere Drive, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, Trinity, where he was a member, with the Rev. David F. Cunha officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Stokes County, employed with R.J. Reynolds as a sheet metal mechanic for 26 years, and a member of the Willa Carter Sunday School Class and the Action Investment Club.
Surviving are wife, Anne Brewer Ledwell Lawson of the home; daughter, Tracy Earhart of Kernersville; stepdaughter, Rebecca Anne Ledwell of Lake Norman; sons, Joe William Lawson Jr. and Gary R. Lawson, both of Kernersville; stepson, Mark F. Ledwell of High Point; sister, Frances Weavil of Winston-Salem; brother, Gene Lawson of Walkertown; two grandchildren.

DENTON - Odetta Kindley Lanier, 86, of 201 Penny Lane, Morehead City, formerly of Denton, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001.

She was a native of Randolph County and the widow of Clement Wilson Lanier.
Surviving are daughters, Inez Varner of Denton, Dot Landrum of High Point, Lee Cummings of Emerald Isle; brother, Dalton Kindley of Asheboro; sisters, Euvina Hill of Asheboro, Olene Proctor, Ann Harkey, both of High Point; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

MT. GILEAD - Mary Ingram Batten, 94, of 220 S. Main. St., died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at the N.C. Lutheran Home, Albemarle.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Bud Walck officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery.
She was a native of Montgomery County, a 1927 graduate of Louisburg College and a member of the Uwharrie Patriots DAR Chapter of Mt. Gilead.
Surviving are daughter, Cecelia B. Wallace of Coconut Grove, Fla.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Southmont, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired from Burlington Industries, and was a deacon and had served as superintendent and Sunday school teacher at his church.
Surviving are wife, Jessie Ruth Wilson Davis of the home; daughters, Betty D. Cox, Martha D. Scott, both of Asheboro; sister, Tura Spoon of Denton; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

LIBERTY - Lowell McMillan, 81, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at his home.

He was a World War II veteran, retired from the U.S. Postal Service, and was a deacon at his church and had served as chairman of the Tape Ministry, as Brotherhood president and treasurer, and as chairman of deacons.

GREENSBORO - Treva Lynch Ellis, 92, of 1339 Baity Bend Road, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Hospice Unit.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, McLeansville, with the Rev. Terry Larsen officiating. Burial will be in McConnell Road Baptist Church cemetery.
She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Rev. James Thomas Ellis Jr., and was a charter member of McConnell Road Baptist Church, serving as pianist, Sunday school teacher, caretaker and custodian of the church and grounds for many years. She was a homemaker, a member of the Alamance Homemakers Club and the Sewing Class at the Guilford County Extension Service, and she created the first Infant Evacuation Apron used for hospital evacuations.
Surviving are sons, William O. "Bill" Ellis, James Thomas "Tommy" Ellis III; daughters, Erma E. Davis, Vera Sue E. Hairr; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at Forbis & Dick Funeral Service, North Elm Street, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Sue Hairr, 1339 Baity Bend Road.

He was a native of Randolph County and a Korean War U.S. Army veteran.
