SOUTHERN PINES - Carl Axel Anderson, 87, died Friday, May 1, 1998 at Manorcare Health Services in Pinehurst.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

He was a native of Huskvarna, Sweden, a charter member of Elk Lodge 2742 in North Fort Myers, Fla., and retired from Midlantic Bank in Newark, N.J.

Surviving are wife, Eleanor M. Anderson of the home; stepdaughters, Madeline Kincaid of the home, Barbara Michetti of Southern Pines and Mary Hurley of Shelter Island, N.Y.; sister, Christina Ribendahl of Sweden; six stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BISCOE - Donanna Marie Davis, 43, of N.C. 24/27 West, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at her home.

Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Monday at Biscoe Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Allen W. Davis of the home; sons, Allen W. Davis Jr. of Seagrove, James R. Davis of Troy, Robert Davis and David W. Davis of Orlando, Fla.; father, David W. Beitzel of Troy; half-brother, Larry Brewer of Star; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home in Star 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Nonnie A. Davis

STAR - Nonnie Allene Davis, 80, of 727 Dover Road, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Dover Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Lonnie Gibson and Rev. Mike Holyfield officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County and retired from Russell Hosiery Mill.

Surviving are daughters, Martha D. Noah of Troy, Janie D. Welch of Robbins, Betty D. Lucas of Asheboro, Nancy D. Greene, Claudine D. Greene and Annie Mae Batten, all of Star; sons, James L. "Jimmy" Davis of Seagrove, Claude Davis Jr. of Ramseur and Bobby Ray Davis of Star; 25 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home in Star 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

WEST END - Dorothy Bryan Lawson, 67, of 3508 N.C. 73 East, died Thursday, April 30, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Julian Scott officiating. Burial will be in West End Cemetery.

She was a native of Guilford County, of the Baptist faith and was a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, George B. Lawson of the home; son, George H. Lawson of Aberdeen; daughters, Nancy Turnage of West End and Pat Lawson Biby of Carthage; brothers, Robert Bryan of Greensboro and James Bryan of Sophia; sisters, Mary Neal of High Point, Millie Hicks of Greensboro and Jackie Mize of Asheboro; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Johnny L. McKinnon Sr.

MT. GILEAD - Johnny Lonzo McKinnon Sr., 63, of 410 E. Allenton St., died Friday, May 1, 1998 at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Bill Turnmire officiating. Burial will follow in Sharon Cemetery.

He was a native of Mt. Gilead, a graduate of Mt. Gilead High School, a retired volunteer fireman and a textile mechanic for Collins and Aikman in Albemarle.

Surviving are wife, Linda Ledbetter McKinnon of the home; sons, Johnny L. McKinnon Jr., D.D.S., and Steven Todd McKinnon, both of Mt. Gilead; brothers, Bobby McKinnon of Charlotte and Vernon McKinnon of Raleigh; sisters, Lois Herron and Kathleen Coble, both of Greensboro, and Blanche Frix and Pansy McKinnon, both of Mt. Gilead.

She was a native of Davidson County and employed with S T N Cushion Company in Thomasville.

Surviving are husband, Ronnie McMahan of the home; sons, Barry T. Gravely and Brandon K. Lanier, both of the home; mother, Libby R. Rogers of Denton; father and stepmother, Thomas and Carol Rogers of Lexington; brothers, T. Denny Rogers of Lexington and Mark G. Rogers of Denton; sister, Debra "Debbie" Burrow of Lexington; grandparents, Lloyd and Ethel McElrath of Lexington.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home Denton 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday and other times at the residence of Libby Rogers, 405 Buie Road, Denton.

Leo L. Palmer

SILER CITY - Leo Lendell Palmer, 33, of 101 Meadow Court, Siler City, died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Emmanuel Fellowship Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in Chatham Memorial Park.

He was a native of Chatham County, employed with Mastercraft Fabrics of Siler City, in the choir at his church and a volunteer fireman with the Siler City Fire Department.

Surviving are wife, Thea Galos Palmer; son, Gavin Palmer of the home; daughters, Leah and Brooke Palmer of the home; parents, Leo Lee and Helen Palmer of Sanford; sisters, Angela Alston of Pittsboro, Valerie Boykin of Sanford, Carla Jones of Durham and Judy Naran of Cary; grandmothers, Melvena Palmer and Ruth Berryman, both of Sanford.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Surviving in addition to the parents are sister, Cala James Edge of the home; brother, Arley Glenn Reese IV of the home; grandparents, James and Janice Edge of Greensboro, Beverly Iowa of Denver, Colo., Beverly and Barry Campbell of Greensboro, and Arley Glenn Jr. and Fonda Reese of McLeansville; great-grandparents, Dolly Iowa of Denver, Colo., Loucille Edge of Greensboro, Ray and Naomi Stanley of Sophia and Ethel C. Reese of Gibsonville.

The family will be at the cemetery following the service.

Dora Alice Shaw Wright, 98, of 818 Ashdol St., Asheboro, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Millard F. Wright, retired from Belk-Yates Department Store and was a member of Central Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are son, W. Robert "Bob" Wright; sister, Lillie Parks of Asheboro; brothers, Preston Shaw of Franklinville, Martin Shaw of Randleman, James Shaw of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Vallie Osborne Stowe, 101, of 2348 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.

KANNAPOLIS - Lisa Ruth Bullins, 37, of Kannapolis, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Carolina's Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at McEwen Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Leslie Lyndon officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

She was a native of Asheboro, a homemaker, member of Oakboro United Methodist Church and a former member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Tallahassee, Fla. She was a 1978 graduate of Independence High School and attended Charlotte Community College and Kaiser College.

Surviving are son, Lance Brandon Bullins; daughter, Amber Nicole Bullins; mother and stepfather, Betty Pierce and Robert T. Pierce of Charlotte; father and stepmother, David Bullins and Joan S. Bullins of Oakboro; brothers, Earl T. Bullins of Piedmont, S.C., David P. Bullins, John R. Furr, both of Oakboro, Steven B. Furr of Harrisburg; sisters, Cindi B. Williams, Leigh P. Stevens, both of Charlotte, Patty F. Randolph of Concord.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Beatrice Mae Brooks, 77, formerly of Asheboro, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. William Christopher Thore officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, a member of Central United Methodist Church and retired from Acme-McCrary.

Surviving are sisters, Ruby B. Sugg of Seagrove, Golda B. Linthicum of Asheboro; brother, Nicholas W. Brooks of Ramseur.

The family will be at the funeral home 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Vallie O. Stowe

Vallie Osborne Stowe, 101, of 2348 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.

She was a native of Asheboro, the widow of Walter L. Stowe, with whom she founded and operated Stowe Florist (the first florist in Asheboro) from 1929-1940s and was a member of Asheboro Friends Meeting.

Surviving are daughter, Margaret Stowe Williams of Asheboro; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Emma N. Bingham

Emma N. Bingham, 93, of Hudson Family Care Home, Asheboro, formerly of Farmer, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Farmer United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Bunkster Franklin Bingham, a member of New Union United Methodist Church and a homemaker.

Surviving are sister, Betty Daniel of Denton; son, Raymond "Bill" Bingham of Florence, S.C.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

He was a native of Randolph County and retired from Seagrove Lumber Co.

Carolyn Cagle Stein, 59, of 524 Shamrock Road, Asheboro, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at N.C. Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Michael Jordan officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She attended Rohtenberg School of Language, was a graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University, a delegate for two World Methodist Conferences and was a member of United Methodist Women, Church Women United, P.E.O. International and the Quest Club.

Surviving are husband, the Rev. Neil L. Stein of Asheboro; sons, the Rev. John C. Stein of Independence, Mo., Thomas C. Stein of St. Charles, Mo.; daughter, Catherine C. Stein of Burlington; parents, the Rev. John F. and Victoria Cagle of Asheboro; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

James T. Holt

JULIAN - James Thomas Holt, 99, of 6247 Nat Road, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Union United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Harry Andrews and the Rev. Greg Freeman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Caswell County, the widower of Dortha Causey Holt, a mathematics and history teacher for 38 years in the Guilford, Forsyth and Rockingham County Schools and retired from Rankin High School, Greensboro, in 1964. He was a graduate of Trinity Park Preparatory School and Duke University where he was on the varsity cross country track and wrestling teams and was a Sunday School teacher at his church.

Surviving are son, Dr. Leonidas C. Holt of Greensboro; daughter, Barbara Avery of Greensboro; half sister, Juanita Cook of Greensboro; one grandson.

The family will be at the church immediately following the service.

Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, is in charge of the arrangements.

STALEY - Billy Tom Gray, 45, of 348 Park St., died Monday, May 4, 1998, at his home.

He was a native of Manila, the Philippines, and was employed with Michael Thomas Furniture Co., Liberty.

Surviving are wife, Jill McMasters Gray; daughter, Torie Gray of the home; sons, Bradly Gray, Tanner Gray, both of the home; sisters, Elsie Wright of Asheboro, Bertha Ward of Lexington, Mary Ann Andrews of Pittsboro; brother, Robie Gray Jr. of Danville, Va.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Bobby and Mary McMasters, 175 Pittsboro St., Staley.
