SNOW CAMP - David J. Horton of 8915 Siler City Snow Camp Road, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Hill U.C.C., with the Rev. Ricky Dawson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Chatham County and a truck driver with Punk Cox Trucking.
Surviving are son, David Horton of Graham; sister, Kassie Dorsett of Snow Camp; three grandchildren.
The family will be at the church 12:30-1 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service.

ASHEBORO - Shirley Ann Williams Needham Powell, 45, of 4462 Happy Hollow Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at her home.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Asheboro Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. James Ward and the Rev. J.P. Sizemore officiating. Burial will be in Flag Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.
She was a native of Randolph County, a dispatcher and jailer with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, a telecommunicator with Randolph County Emergency Services and the county's first fire inspector with the Fire Marshall's office, where she also did investigations and emergency management. She later worked in county communications as a supervisor where she was instrumental in the implementation of Randolph County 911 and was the director of Communications. She was vice president and president and represented the county in the N.C. Chapter of NENA (National Emergency Number Association) and she retired from Randolph County after 21 years. She was a member of the Seagrove Volunteer Fire Department, Ashe-Rand Rescue and EMS Search and Rescue Team, the N.C. Council of Government and the Southwestern Randolph High School Band Boosters Club.
Surviving are son, Benjamin Ryan Needham of the home; parents, Eunice and Blanche Wilson Williams of Asheboro.
The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

CARTHAGE - Edna Estelle Ferguson, 93, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, in Columbia, S.C.
Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Eureka Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Charles Meek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Brunswick County, a farmer, was retired from St. Joseph of the Pines Hospital as a nurse's aide and attended Shandon Presbyterian Church in Columbia, S.C.
Surviving are daughters, Annie Jane F. McKinney of Southern Pines, Hilda F. Booth of Columbia, S.C.; sons, William Wooten Ferguson of Lake City, Arthur Henry "Happy" Ferguson of Vass; sister, Elizabeth Henry Mueller of East Meadow, N.Y.; brother, Troy Henry of Town Creek; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren.

CANDOR - Virgil Spencer "Spud" Parsons, 56, of 328 Warehouse St., died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at Marlboro Park Hospital, Bennettsville, S.C.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Candor Cemetery, with the Rev. James W. Hamilton officiating.
He was a native of Montgomery County and a self-employed truck driver.
Surviving are wife, Penny Ledbetter Parsons of the home; daughter, Kellie Cody of Richfield; son, David W. Parsons of Candor; mother, Catherine Floyd Parsons of Candor; brother, Tony Parsons of Candor; two grandchildren.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired diesel mechanic with Yellow Freight and a member of Teamster Local 71.

She was a native of Dillsburg, Pa., a member of First E&R United Church of Christ, Asheboro and a former Sunday School teacher. She was a volunteer with Hospice of Randolph and the Mental Health Association of Randolph County, and a member and past president of Pilot Club International.
Surviving are daughter, Rosemary K. Fox of Asheboro; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of G.L. "Gola" Wishon with whom she operated Wishon's Red & White Supermarket in Elija, Ga., a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a member of the Eastern Star.
