Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will follow directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home, Florence, S.C.

He was a native of Mullins, S.C., a U.S. Army veteran and a member of South Florence Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Lois Gibson Housand of the home; son, William "Buddy" Boyd of Mayodan; daughter, Mary H. Jones of Florence, S.C.; brothers, Thurman Housand of Asheboro, Walter Housand of Winthrop, S.C.; sisters, Nina Godly of Tampa Bay, Fla., Lou Mae Housand of Florence, S.C.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Lula Effie Yow Potts, 84, of 256 Bondurant Road, Asheboro, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Wyatt Hoogkamp officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Alfred D. Potts, retired from Mar-Mac Hosiery Mill, attended Central Wesleyan Church and was a member of Eastern Star Chapter #210 and the DAV Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are sons, James R. Potts, Farrell D. Potts, both of Asheboro, Robert A. Potts of Ramseur, Darrell D. Potts of King; sisters, Mary Brady, Doris Rich, both of Asheboro; brother, Elmer Yow of Asheboro; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Farrell Potts, 254 Bondurant Road, Asheboro.

Alva L. Freeman
SEAGROVE - Alva Lee Freeman, 77, of 3460 U.S. 220 Alternate North, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Union Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Ron Copple and the Rev. Grady Blakely officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a teacher of the Adult Men's Sunday School class at his church, a World War II veteran and POW, a member of VFW Post #9881 and was retired from Union Carbide.

Surviving are wife, Elizabeth Covington Freeman of the home; daughter, Jill Esque of Greensboro; son, Alva Lee Freeman Jr. of Monroe; sister, Faye Patille of Greensboro; brothers, Paul E. Freeman of Gerton, the Rev. Tracy W. Freeman of Collinsville, Va.; four grandchildren.

Phillips Funeral Home, Star, is in charge of arrangements.

GREENSBORO - Ruby "Peggy" Fogleman, 71, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital Hospice unit.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, Greensboro, North Elm Chapel. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park.

She was a native of Fayetteville, retired from AT&T after 39 years, a member of the AT&T Young at Heart Club and the Telephone Pioneers of the Carolinas.

Surviving are husband, James "Jeep" W. Fogleman of the home; son, Michael Lynn Fogleman of Greensboro; sister, Phyllis Ann Ellis of Greensboro; brothers, Dan Anderson of Smithville, Va., Donald Omega Anderson of Williamsburg, Va.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Agnes S. Bunton
SILER CITY - Agnes Smyth Bunton, 83, of 11090 U.S. 64 West, died Friday Sept. 28, 2001, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Julia Catholic Church, where she was a member, with Father Dan Quackenbush officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park.

She was a native of Nutley, N.J., and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Walter A. Bunton of Siler City; brother, Edmund Smyth of Scotch Plains, N.J.; sister, Josephine Cole of New Jersey.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday, and other times at the home.

CARTHAGE - Grace McKenzie Harris, 98, of Dowd Road, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Culdee Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Bill Monroe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Walter James Harris and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School. She operated a country store and her farm, retired as a receptionist from Pinehurst Incorporated and was a member of the Eastern Star.

Jean R. Kearns
RENO, Nev. - Jean R. Kearns, 77, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at her home.

A Celebration of Life will be 5-8 p.m. Nov. 2 at McKinley Arts and Cultural Center, Reno, Nev.

She was a native of Milwaukee, Wis., attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and graduated from Queens College, Flushing, N.Y. She was a former president of the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society and retired from oncology nursing at Washoe Medical Center.

Surviving are husband, Whitman Kearns; son, Thomas Kearns; daughter, Martha Kearns; one granddaughter.

John Sparks Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, Sparks, Nev., was in charge of arrangements.

ASHEBORO - Jakhiry Tyrelle Leander Covington, infant son of Ginger Covington and Lamar Aikens of Asheboro, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Look to Jesus Christian Ministry, Asheboro. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Surviving in addition to the parents, are grandparents, Ronald and Norma Covington and Elroy and Carolyn Aikens, all of Asheboro.

LIBERTY - Myrtle Nunn Ferguson, 90, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at SunBridge Care in Siler City.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Christian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Howard Spray officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Stokes County, the widow of Dubert L. Ferguson and a homemaker.

Surviving are sister, Annie Teague of Liberty; brother, Melvin Nunn of Liberty; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Gerardo Perez
TROY - Gerardo Celestino Perez Galvan, 22, of Tremont St., died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001.

Funeral mass will be 4:30 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church, with Father Ricardo Sanchez officiating. Burial will be in Mexico.

He was a native of Mexico and employed as a machine fixer at Rose Knit.

Surviving are wife, Catalina Perez Aniceto of the home; daughter, Cathia Anai Perez Perez of the home; parents, Celso Perez Estanislao and Yolanda Galvan Amador; brothers, Jose Antonio Martinez Amador, Hipolito Amador Juarez, both of Troy.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home 2-7 p.m. Monday.

Grace M. Harris

CLEMMONS - Effie Lillian Aaron Lankford, 93, of Meadowbrook Manor of Clemmons, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel, with the Rev. Elmer Flynt and the Rev. Ramey Craig officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

She was a native of Stokes County, a charter member of Faith Chapel and a retired inspector for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co.

Surviving are daughters, Harriett Stewart, Bobbie Dull; sons, Timothy C. Lankford, Wayne Aaron; brother, Earl Aaron; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Thomas G. Davis
LIBERTY - Thomas G. "Tom" Davis, 80, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery, with the Rev. Rick Bell officiating.

He was a native of Liberty, a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and was the owner/operator of Davis Floor Covering for 50 years.

Surviving is sister, Anne D. Fogleman of Liberty.

The family will be at the cemetery following the service.

Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, is in charge of the arrangements.

SEAGROVE - Arnold Jay Hancock, 73, of 6504 Old U.S. 220 Hwy., died Monday Oct. 1, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. Norman L. Livengood Sr. and Dr. James B. Gibson Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Whynot Cemetery.

He was a native of Seagrove, a member of First Baptist Church in Seagrove, and was a retired brick mason with King Hunter Construction in Greensboro.

Surviving are wife Betty Jo Brewer Hancock; daughter, Jo Ellen H. Needham of Seagrove; sons, Andy Jay Hancock of Seagrove, Benjamin Ray Hancock, Rodney Gregg Hancock, both of Asheboro; sisters, Mary Neese of Denton, Della Mae Gillis of Seagrove; brothers, Shuford Hancock of Seagrove, Junior Hancock of Pleasant Garden, Elzie Hancock of Carthage; half-brother, Wade Davis of Seagrove; three grandchildren.

He was a native of Moore County and a poultry farmer.

Surviving are wife, Marie Smith Ritter; stepdaughters, Lauren Brock of Pinebluff, Julia A. Brock of Raeford; stepson, Robert L. Phillips Jr. of Glendon; sister, Betty Lou Seawell of Carthage; brothers, Lacy Ritter, Billy Ritter, Johnny Ray Ritter, all of Robbins; two stepgrandchildren.

He was a native of Newport, R.I., a U.S. Air Force veteran and was a retired maintenance supervisor for U.S. Furniture Industries.

Surviving are wife, Bertha M. Anderson Botelho of the home; daughters, Linda Holyfield, Rhonda Weakley, Pam Hooker, all of Trinity; son, Joseph A. Botelho Jr. of Trinity; sister, Annie Kintner of New Hampshire; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

David W. Beitzel
TROY - David Willis Beitzel, 66, of 940 Lindsey Drive, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Biscoe Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County and was a self-employed painter.

Surviving are son, Larry Joe Brewer of Star; stepdaughter, Sharon Eastman of Star; sisters, Joan Blakely of Candor, Carolyn Palmer of Fairfield, Vt., Janet Whittle of Hamlet; brothers, Norman Beitzel of Meridian, Miss., Eric Beitzel of Star, Robert Beitzel of Mt. Gilead, Lewis Beitzel of Asheboro; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Nevada P. Jordan
SNOW CAMP - Nevada Patterson Jordan, 77, of 7801 N.C. 49 South, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Rock Creek AME Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Alamance County, the widow of Jessie J. Jordan, and has been employed at MilIender Furniture Company.

Surviving are brother, Joe C. Patterson of Asheboro.

The family will be at the church 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. - M. Gregg Kimrey, 86, died Sept. 29, 2001, at Mease Countryside Hospital.

He was a native of Ramseur, former owner of several restaurants in Asheboro, a retired shoe wholesaler, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, past commander of his VFW post in Asheboro, and a former member of VFW Post 2473, and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Clearwater, Fla.

Surviving are wife, Audrey Kimrey; son, G. Stephen Kimrey of Weeki Wachee, Fla.; daughters, Patricia Gale Sever of Clearwater, Fla., Barbara Warren of Spring Hill, Fla., Shirley Nardone of Weeki Wachee, Fla.; sister, Ramie Butler of Madison; stepsons, George D. Street of Boston, Pa., Glen Street of Bensalem, Pa., Jay Street of Oakmont, Pa.; stepdaughter, Gail Kasel of N. Huntington, Pa.; five grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was a native of Mandeville, La., a retired CPA and a U.S. Army veteran.
