Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Farmer Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Pastor Jeff Lamb officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Thomasville Cabinet Co. Inc. and was a former deacon at his church.
Surviving are wife, Katherine Gordon Hughes of the home; sons, Henry A. Hughes, Eddie Hughes, Wayne Hughes, Joseph Hughes, all of Asheboro; sisters, Thelma Smith, Jane Cheek, both of Asheboro; brothers, Robert Hughes of Asheboro, Donald Hughes of Seagrove; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

CLIMAX - Pauline Craven Mabe, 76, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at Beacon Place in Greensboro.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Lynn Cash officiating. Burial will be in Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian.
She was a native of Randolph County and a retired employee of Burlington Industries.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Rives Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Soblotne officiating.
He was a native of Chatham County, a member of Rives Baptist Church and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.
Surviving are daughter, Angie Alston of Siler City; brothers, Henry Fields of Siler City, Frank Fields of El Paso, Texas.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of W.I. "Pop" Hayes, a member of Dogwood Acres Presbyterian Church, a retired designer with Pinehurst Textiles, a member of Elderberries at Asheboro Friends Meeting and a member of the Greenthumb Garden Club.
Surviving are daughters, Peggy H. Coble, Bettie H. Morgan, both of Asheboro; sons, Keith Hayes, Hilton Hayes, John Hayes, all of Asheboro; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.

She was a native of Hensley W. Va., and a member of Worthville Baptist Church, Worthville.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Plainfield Friends Meeting, where he was a member, with the Rev. Winfred Crouse officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Chatham County, the widower of Esbie Stevens, a member of the Sunshine Sunday school class at his church, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and retired from Boling Chair Co., Siler City.
Surviving are sons, Cletus Stevens, Jerry Stevens, both of Siler City; sisters, Doris S. Brower, Jean S. Beal, both of Siler City; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Stanly County and owner/operator of a sawmill.

She was a retired piano teacher who had taught in Pittsboro School and in the Bells' School. She was a former Sunday School teacher, organist and member of the missionary society at her church and a member of Cross Road Retirement Center, Asheboro.
Surviving are daughter, LaVerna "Lucky" Bell Davis of Randleman; sisters, Lois W. Thompson of Pittsboro, Beatrice W. Stradtman of Lewisburg, Pa.; four grandchildren; three great-granddaughters.

He was a native of Bear Creek, a retired truck driver for McLean Trucking and a World War II U.S. Army veteran where he received the Purple Heart. He served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at his church.
Surviving are wife, Shirleen Cockman of Asheboro; son, John Cockman of Cary; daughter, Debbie C. Moore of Hampton, Va.; stepdaughters, Lisa Welch of Randleman, Lori Beasley of Asheboro; stepsons, Danny Gray of Asheboro, Don Gray of Greensboro, Darrell Gray of Orlando, Fla.; half brothers, Richard Moody, Kenneth Moody, both of Siler City; three grandchildren.

He was a native of Randolph County, a member of Oakwood Park Baptist Church where he was a past deacon, a Mason, a Past Master of Hanks Lodge #128, a Scottish Rite member, a Shriner and a Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star of the Virgin Chapter #17.
Surviving are wife, Mae Pugh Purvis; daughter, Demetra Callicutt of Asheboro; sister, Edna P. Beane of Asheboro; two grandchildren; one great-grandson.

ASHEBORO - Allen Nicholas Holt, 80, of 2598 Old Lexington Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Gene Booker and Stan Haywood officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
He was a native of Guilford County, a graduate of Kings Business College, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Asheboro. He served on the Randolph County Tax Commission, was involved with the Randolph Republican Party, serving on numerous finance committees and was a member of the Asheboro Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also former director with the United Way, the Randolph-Asheboro YMCA, was formerly employed as general manager of the Asheboro plant of Georgia Pacific Corporation, was a Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner.
Surviving are wife, Alta H. Holt; stepdaughter, Rosie Patterson of the home; stepson, Ray Patterson of Ft. Mill, S.C.; sister, Rebecca Donnell of Greensboro; one granddaughter.

She was a native of Cabarrus County and had been employed with Jordan Spinning.

He was a deacon at his church, a World War II U. S. Army veteran and was retired from Western-Southern Life Insurance Company.

Knowles of Reidsville; sisters, Louise Bowden of Asheboro, Maxine Brady of Siler City, Rachel Parks of Franklinville, Grace Ward of Ramseur; brothers, Paul Ward of Siler City, Blaine Ward of Asheboro; three grandchildren.
