TROY - Patty Wormack Overby, 82, of 120 Dusty Level Road, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Long Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Larry Beaver officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Vance County and retired from Troy Drapery.

Surviving are daughter, Peggy Overby Taylor of the home; son, Lewis Overby of Troy; sister, Ann Dixon of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

John P. Mashburn

GOLDSTON - John Preston Mashburn, 69, of 1164 N.C. 42, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Convalescent Care of Lee County, Sanford.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Carbonton United Methodist Church cemetery.

He was a native of Duncan, a retired lumberman and was a member of Carbonton United Methodist Church.

Surviving are brothers, Milton Mashburn, Roosevelt Mashburn, both of Goldston; sisters, Faye M. Anders of Goldston, Shirley M. Wyrick of Greensboro, Nancy M. Harrell of Broadway.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Belvia P. Brewer
RANDLEMAN - Belvia Powell Brewer, 72, of 401 S. Stout St., died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, J.B. Brewer; daughter, Marie Warren of Ramseur; sister, Jean P. Harrelson of Randleman; foster brother, Noel Todd of Clinton; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at 400 S. Stout St., Randleman.

Garland Matthews Sr.

LIBERTY - Garland "Jenk" Matthews Sr., of 514 Allison St., died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at his home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Kimes Funeral Service, Liberty.

LIBERTY - Lucille McMasters Dowdy Scott, 72, of 234-A6 Brower Ave., died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. James L. Denny officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Christian Church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Stout Chair Co. and was a member of Friendly Wesleyan Church, Liberty, and the Adult Bible class.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Jody B. Maness

ROBBINS - Jody Bray Maness, infant son of Terri Lewis and Randy Maness, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

A graveside service was 2 p.m. Thursday at Browns Chapel Christian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Gary Waisner officiating.

Surviving in addition to the parents are grandparents, Gene and Cathy Lewis and Wanda Maness, all of Robbins, Pat Lewis of Seven Lakes, James Maness of Highfalls; brother, Bradley Maness of the home.

Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, was in charge of the arrangements.

Franklin P. Anderson
RANDLEMAN - Franklin P. Anderson, 80, of 2558 Old Liberty Road, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethel United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. David Howard and the Rev. Mark Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Gilmore Memorial Park, Julian, with military honors.

He was a native of High Point, president of Anderson-Wells Tile Co., Burlington, for 30 years, lay leader and treasurer of the Methodist Men at his church, a member of Julian Lions Club and Gideon International and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Margaret Wicker Anderson of the home; daughter, Julia A. Willis of Climax; brother, Porter Anderson of Climax; sisters, Bessie Andrews of Siler City, Alta Curtis of Greensboro.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

FRANKLINVILLE - Ralph Nixon Davis, 61, of 3380 Walker Store Road, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Cornerstone Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gary Reeder officiating. Burial will be in Whites Memorial Baptist Church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and a poultry farmer.

Surviving are wife, Margaret Morgan Davis of the home; daughter, Linda Park of Wichita Falls, Texas; son, Billy Davis of Franklinville; brother, Willie Lee Davis of Franklinville; sisters, Mary Nance, Lucille Hubbard, both of Franklinville; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Annie L. Pearce

DENTON - Annie L. Pearce, 81, of 2408 Doul Mountain Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Gravel Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gerald Ward and the Rev. Claudie Harrison officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Ivey Newton Pearce, a former Sunday School teacher and secretary at her church and was retired from General Electric.

Surviving are sons, Mike Pearce of Asheboro, Milton Pearce of Denton; brother, Grady Nance of Asheboro; one grandchild; one stepgrandchild; one stepgreat-grandchild.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Milton Pearce, 2222 Piedmont School Road, Denton.

CARTHAGE - George Junior Brown, 74, of 832 Fire Lane Road, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cross Roads Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Holyfield and the Rev. Fred Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Flint Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and a retired saw miller.

Surviving are wife, Bessie Maness Brown of the home; daughter, Janice Brown Hussey of Seagrove; mother, Ocia Cockman Brown of Carthage; brothers, Rgene Brown, Monroe Brown, Tracy Brown, all of Carthage; sisters, Lois Priest of Carthage, Maxine Vest of West End, Josephine Crabtree of Indiana, Myrtie Kennedy of Eagle Springs; one granddaughter.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

BISCOE - Donanna Marie Davis, 43, of N.C. 24/27 West, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at her home.

A graveside service was 4 p.m. Monday at Biscoe Cemetery.

Surviving are husband, Allen W. Davis of the home; sons, Allen W. Davis Jr. of Seagrove, James R. Davis of Troy, Robert Davis, David W. Davis of Orlando, Fla.; father, David W. Beitzel of Troy; mother, Ella T. Beitzel of High Point; half brother, Larry Brewer of Star; two grandchildren.

Phillips Funeral Home, Star, was in charge of the arrangements.

Clarice T. Jessup

SILER CITY - Clarice Virginia Taylor Jessup, 71, of 2848 Siler City/Glendon Road, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Brush Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Dwight Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Stokes County, owner and operator of Clarice's Beauty Shop, a 1946 graduate of Glade Valley High School and Salisbury Beauty School and was on the flower committee at her church.

Surviving are sons, Vernon Jessup, Joel Jessup, both of Siler City; daughter, Martha Paulson of Morganton; sisters, Christine Wall of Raleigh, Jane Edison of Clemson, S.C., Gladys Goldsmith of Ocean Isle; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

SILER CITY - Shirley Steelman Pike, 63, of 885 Buck Gunter Road, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at Chatham Hospital.

She was a native of High Point and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Wayne E. Pike; daughters, Lewtisha "Sisy" Barney, Terry Lynn Combs, both of High Point, Debra Lowman of Thomasville; sons, Mike Sumner of Pittsboro, Timothy Sumner of Trinity; half sisters, Hope Ellis, Henrietta Smith, Harriet Hilliard, Hilda Hester, all of Durham, Helen Hilliard of Huntsville, Ala; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

SNOW CAMP - Shirley Fox Lindley, 62, of 1800 Johnny Lindley Road, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at South Fork Friends Meeting, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ray Lambe and the Rev. Jon Reece officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Johnny Lindley; daughter, Anita L. Naderi of Houston, Texas; sons, Sherrill Lindley, Mike Lindley, Hal Lindley, all of Silk Hope; mother, Florine Johnson Fox of Siler City; sister, Kay Buckner of Sanford; six grandchildren.

RAMSEUR - Margaret Wright Coley, 74, of 1265 Lee Layne Road, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Parks Cross Roads Christian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. James Turner, the Rev. Adrian Pugh and the Rev. Charles Wright officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Cross United Church of Christ cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from Burlington Industries.

Surviving are sons, Buck Coley, Raeford Coley, both of Asheboro, Tommy Coley of Seagrove, Jesse Coley, David "Boo Boo" Coley, both of Ramseur; daughters, Margaret Ann Shore, Martha Kinney, Kay Joyce Hinson Smith, all of Ramseur, Phyllis Overman of Snow Camp; brother, George H. Wright of Trinity; sisters, Lucy Allred of Franklinville, Alline Wright, Jessie Mae Weaver, Pauline King, all of Asheboro, Mary Yow of Star; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.

She was retired from Proctor & Gamble and was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Cross.

Surviving are husband, John L. Bruce; daughters, Judy Wood of Randleman, Jennifer Bruce of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; sons, Jeffrey Bruce, Jim Bruce, both of Greensboro; sisters, Mary McClure, Dorothy Green, both of Greensboro; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, North Elm Street, Greensboro, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

SILER CITY - Hilda Carter Durham, 88, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at Brian Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. Travis Owen and the Rev. Thomas Sweeley officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of Wade H. Durham Sr., a retired teacher with the Chatham County Schools and was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star #9.

Surviving are daughter, Hilda Gray Durham Cox of Winston-Salem; son, Wade H. "Peter" Durham Jr. of Elizabeth City; sisters, Carolyn Carter Hupp, Sally Carter Metcalfe, both of Charlotte; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

She was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker.
