ASHEBORO - William Corbett Wilkins, 67, of 1069 Montley View Drive, Asheboro, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center.

Graveside service will be 5 p.m. Thursday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Johnny R. Henderson and the Rev. Lee Ziegler officiating.

He was a native of Sampson County, a retired salesman with Thomas Tire and a member of Cross Road Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Dorothy Edwards Wilkins; daughter, Tammy W. Allen of Asheboro; sons, Bobby Wilkins of Goffstown, N.H., Dennis Wilkins of Sophia; brother, Warren G. Wilkins of Benson; sisters, Edna Harris of Chesapeake, Va., Joyce Tart of Dunn; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 3-4:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

GREENSBORO - Hiram C. Perry, 82, of 2914 Pleasant Garden Road, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001.

A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Centre Friends Meeting, Pleasant Garden, where he was a member. Burial will be in Gilmore Memorial Park.

He was a native of Chatham County, the owner of Gate City Cleaners, also a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and where he started the Super Sixties Club, and an usher at Centre Friends.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Perry; sons, Bob Perry, Jack Perry, both of Greensboro; stepsons, Ricky Hatchel and Roger Hatchel; stepdaughters, Virginia Ward and Emma Jean Wilson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, Vanstory Chapel, Greensboro, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Evelyn C. Sockwell
GREENSBORO - Evelyn Caudle Sockwell, 82, of 3530-A Lawndale Drive, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a graduate of Bessemer High School, the widow of Robert L. Sockwell, attended Kings Business College, and was a member of the Bessemer Women's Club, ROAL, WELCA and the After Five Club.

Surviving are daughters, Linda Covington of Asheboro, Sherry Heath of Houston, Texas, Carla Morgan of Greensboro; sister, Sarah Shelton of Gold Hill.

SILER CITY - Lizzie Mae Moody Bowers, 82, of 9240 U.S. 64 West, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at 9210 U.S. 64 West.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hickory Mountain United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Robert B. Way Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, a retired poultry farmer and operated Bowers Store.

Surviving are daughter, Linda B. Crowson of Siler City; son, Floyd Bowers Jr. of Siler City; brothers, James Moody of Greensboro, David Moody of Bear Creek; four grandchildren; three great-granddaughters.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of the daughter.

SILER CITY - James Glover died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at Chatham Hospital.

Martha J. White
SILER CITY - Martha Johnson White, 63, of 317 N. Garden Ave., died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brookdale Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Roger Shuford, the Rev. Walter Jones and the Rev. Gerald Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of James Colon White, retired from ROC Plastic, and a member of the Adult Women's Sunday School class and the Senior Adult Ministry at her church.

Surviving are daughter, Dr. Jessie W. DiNome of Philadelphia, Pa.; sons, Jimmy Dean White of Pittsboro, James Lynn White of Siler City; brother, James Edward Johnson of Siler City; six grandchildren.

STAR - Elsie Colin Tucker, 89, of 327 Freeman St., died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Freeman family cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County and a lumber mill worker.

Surviving is brother, James Odell Tucker of Star.

Phillips Funeral Home, Star, is in charge of arrangements.

Lloyd R. Dunn
STAR - Lloyd R. Dunn, 73, of 558 Owen St., died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Star Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Howard W. Wall and the Rev. Clyde Allen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a U.S. Army veteran of Korea, retired from Springs Industries Corp., Aileen Plant, after 30 years, and worked with Phillips Funeral Home, Star, for 33 years. He was the secretary/treasurer of the Sunday School at his church and a member of VFW Post 9881.

Surviving are wife, Sarah Kearns Dunn of the home; sons, Rickey Dunn of Star, Dale Dunn of the home; sisters, Lois Stewart, Clara Belle Lassiter, both of Star; brother, Ralph Dunn of Star; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

HOLDEN BEACH - Nina Lynn Kizer, 54, of Brunswick Avenue, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte, with the Rev. David Stratton officiating. Burial will be in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.

She was a native of Randolph County, employed with the Brunswick County Board of Education, and a member of Brunswick Islands Baptist Church.

Surviving are husband, John Douglas Kizer of the home; son, Steven Douglas Kizer of Calabash; daughters, Karen Kizer-Walker of Ocean Isle Beach, Stephanie Lynn Kizer of Calabash; parents, Henry Harrison and Helen Ruth Harris Kidd of Asheboro; brother, Harry George Kidd of Asheboro; one granddaughter.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Richard C. Glascock
MOCKSVILLE - Richard Clyde Glascock, 81, of Wilkesboro Street, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Van Lankford officiating. Burial will be in Rose Cemetery with Masonic Rites by Mocksville Masonic Lodge 134.

He was a native of Davie County, worked in the auto body business and as a supervisor of Invoicing and Accounting with Ingersoll-Rand for 19 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of Mocksville Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M., a past Master and Certified Lecturer, and a member of Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are wife, Lois Cartner Glascock of the home; daughters, Delaine Mehder of Greensboro, Cindy Schroder of Asheboro, Katie Bridgers of Hillsborough; sisters, Mary Spillman of Farmington, Jane Tutterow of Mocksville, Dorothy Taylor of Olin; brothers; Thomas Glascock of Lewisville, Everette Glascock of Mocksville; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home, Mocksville, 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday.

ASHEBORO - Frank Rogelio Mercado, infant son of Ashley Hancock Mercado and Hector Mercado Urquiza, of 1201 E. 25th St., Winston-Salem, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be in Country Holiness Cemetery.

Surviving in addition to his parents are brother, Hector Michael Mercado of the home; grandparents, Wendy Fultz and Michael Hancock, both of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Nannie E. Smith
SEAGROVE - Nannie Elizabeth Smith, 44, of 460 Hogan Farm Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Asbury Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Clay Davis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a Sunday School teacher at her church and an employee of Clayson Knitting Co. for 29 years.

Surviving are mother, Loucendy Smith of the home; brothers, Jerry Smith, Thurman Smith, James Smith, all of Seagrove; sister, Betty Spivey of Biscoe.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Lou E. Webster
RAMSEUR - Lou Elva Webster, 84, of 2050 Brooklyn Ave., died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation for Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Ricky Rose officiating. Burial will be in Whites Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from J.P. Stevens and was a member of Bible Wesleyan Church in Graham.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

John R. Hardin
JULIAN - John Ross Hardin, 83, of 8225 Colonial Trading Path, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at Evergreen Nursing Home.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Gilmore Memorial Park, with the Rev. Lynn Cash officiating.

He was a member of Julian United Methodist Church, the widower of Beulah C. Hardin, a charter member of the Julian Lions Club, and founder and owner and operator of Quality Wholesale Florist for 40 years.

Surviving are daughter, Beverly H. DeStefano of Reidsville; sister, Martha Coleman of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

DENTON - Ruth Garner Morris, 87, of 501 S. Main St., died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Denton Town Cemetery, with the Rev. Thomas Garner officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Wesley P. Morris, a homemaker, and former employee of Carolina Bank and Trust. She retired as secretary of Central United Methodist Church where she was a member and a secretary of the Mary Frances Stubbs Circle, and a church historian.

Surviving are son, Thomas W. Morris of Asheboro; daughter, Mary Gooch of Apex; brothers, Wallace Garner of Farmer, Dr. Thomas Garner of Seneca, S.C.; sister, Esther Davis of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

TROY - Ollie Broadway Alexander, 82, formerly of 140 Lost Lake Drive, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gary Rutherford and the Rev. Dexter Gibson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Anson County and a former employee of Capel Rug Mill.

Surviving are daughters, Pat Batten of Maryville, Tenn., Sandra Saunders, Frances Brown, both of Star; sisters, Orene Martin, Lois Page, both of Norwood, Louise Taylor of Monroe; brother, Robert Broadway of Polkton; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at 140 Lost Lake Drive, Troy.

Kenneth C. Foster Sr.
MT. GILEAD - Kenneth Craven Foster Sr., 79, of Evans Rest Home, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at the Rest Home.

Funeral service will be at a later date.

He was a native of Mecklenburg County.

Surviving are daughter, Ruby V. McConnell of York, S.C.; sons, Kenneth C. Foster Jr., Bobby Joe Foster, Larry D. Foster, all of Charlotte, Howard A. Foster of Monroe.

MT. GILEAD - Anna Robinson Kelly, 82, of N.C. 731 Candor, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Greene Family Cemetery, Candor, with the Rev. Curtis Blake officiating.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of James Alfred Kelly and a retired seamstress.

Surviving are daughters, Brenda McLendon and Jan McLendon, both of Mt. Gilead; sons, Edmund D. Kelly of Lexington, S.C., Ted R. Kelly of Marston; brother, H.W. "Bill" Robinson of Norman; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

He was a native of Nelson County, N.D., a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, an auto mechanic, was formerly employed with the N.C. Forest Service, had delivered buses for Thomas Built Buses, was a council member at his church, a member of the Peddycord Air Museum Foundation and was a mason.

Surviving are wife, Ann Sanders Vrem; daughter, Vicky V. Williams of Warner Robins, Ga.; sons, Wayne Vrem of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Dennis Vrem of Virginia Beach, Va.; stepdaughters, Carla R. Harrelson of Hemingway, S.C., Vickie K. Toddof Myrtle Beach, S.C., Jeannie H. Clayton of Conway, S.C., Marsha Halstead of Tampa, Fla.; brothers, Orris Vrem, Lorrain Vrem, both of Tolna, N.D., Wallace Vrem of Oviedo, Fla., Vernon Vrem of Crookston, Minn., Michael Vrem of Mahomet, Ill.; sisters, Bernice Newham of Tolna, N.D., Shirley Ehlers of Kennewick, Wash.; six grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren.
