BISCOE - Marie Streeter Johnson, 84, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Cape Fear Hospital, Fayetteville.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Alley Grove Baptist Church, with Dr. B. M. Harris officiating. Burial will be in Lewis-Liles Cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Pauline Dudley of Raeford, Evelyn Barrett of Biscoe, Dorothy C. Johnson of the home; sons, Phillip Johnson and Edgar Sylvester Johnson, both of Biscoe, Perry David Johnson of Mebane; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Bostic Funeral Services, Candor, 7-8 p.m. Saturday.

JoAnn T. Clark
ASHEBORO - JoAnn Trogdon Clark, 61, of 727 S. Cox St., Asheboro, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at her home.

Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Monday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Jack Clark officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County and employed with Harry E. Fisher, P.A.

Surviving are daughter, Janet C. Fisher of Badin Lake; son, Dwain Lee Clark of Asheboro; mother, Mozelle Lanier Highfill of Asheboro; brother, Dr. E. Wayne Trogdon of Raleigh; one grandson; five stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home following the service.

ASHEBORO - Dorothy Smith Cooper, 80, of Cross Road Rest & Retirement Center, Asheboro, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Cross Road.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Knoll Cemetery, with the Rev. David Schwartz officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of George Clifford Cooper Sr., retired from Acme-McCrary and of the Wesleyan faith.

Surviving are son, Clifford Cooper Jr. of Mableton, Ga.; daughter, Susan C. Deaton of Liberty.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 6-8 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of the daughter, 6848 Deaton Langley Road, Liberty.

Memorials may be made to the Cross Road Alzheimer's Center, 1302 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, N.C. 27203.

Hazel L. Hulin
TROY - Hazel Lewis Hulin, 67, of 812 N.C. 109, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Windsor House of Rockingham.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Olivet Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Roger Rhodes and the Rev. Robert Brewer officiating.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a member of Troy Wesleyan Church, a former employee of WesCare and a retired hosiery mill employee.

Surviving are son, Michael Hulin of Troy; daughters, Vicky Caviness of Troy, Cyndi Caviness of Robbins, Angela Davis of Ansonville; brother, J C Lewis of Asheboro; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Fred L. Hanner Jr.
BEAR CREEK - Fred L. Hanner Jr. of 4331 Bonlee Bennett Road, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Lambert Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. William Harrington officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, a U.S. Army veteran and employed by Darrell Andrews Trucking Company.

Surviving are wife, Hattie L. Foxx Hanner; daughter, Kimberly L. Hanner of the home; son, Eric M. Hanner of Fort Hood, Texas; mother, Margaret Hanner of Bear Creek; brothers, Myron Hanner of Siler City, Tracy Hanner of Bear Creek, Norman Hanner of Durham, Samuel Hanner of Pittsboro; sister, Pearlie Williams of Sanford; two grandchildren.

Farrar Funeral Service, Siler City, is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Maconaghie
CARTHAGE - Pastor Donald Maconaghie, 74, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Gospel Chapel, with the Rev. John Paul Erdos officiating. Burial will be in Cross Hill Cemetery.

He was a native of Belfast, Ireland, a graduate of Belfast College with a degree in Electrical Engineering, the director of the Conversion Center Inc., in Raleigh, and had been the pastor of the Gospel Chapel in Carthage for many years.

Surviving are wife, Patricia Agnew Maconaghie; sister, Barbara Compton of Northern Ireland; brother, Dr. Frank F. Maconaghie of Belfast, Ireland.

Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, is in charge of arrangements.

Grady H. Wright
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Grady H. Wright, 78, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Monday at Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Larry Hovis officiating. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park.

He was a native of Asheboro, a graduate of Asheboro High School and of Kings Business College and a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran. He was employed with Carolina Power and Light Company for 41 years in the Customer Accounting Department in North Carolina and South Carolina, a member of the Jaycees in Southern Pines and Kiwanis Clubs in Jacksonville and Wilmington, and a member of the C.J. Ellen Bible Class at his church, where he also was a deacon.

Surviving are wife, Grace Wright; daughter, Karen W. Frye of Greenville; son, Thomas H. Wright of Raleigh; brother, Arnold T. Wright of Asheboro; sister, Doris W. Hunt of Asheboro; two granddaughters.

The family will be at Wilkerson Funeral Home, Greenville, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

ASHEBORO - Charles Richard Atkins, 75, of Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation Center, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point, with the Rev. Thurman Jenkins and the Rev. Howard Dixon officiating.

He was a native of Guilford County, a U.S. Army veteran and a retired employee of Amos Hosiery.

The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, 1-2 p.m. Wednesday.

Johnny S. Ester
RANDLEMAN - Johnny Samuel Ester, 64, of 2155 George York Road, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Biscoe Cemetery, with the Rev. Garland McDowell officiating.

Surviving are wife, Patricia Ester of the home; sons, Johnny Ester Jr. and Brian Ester, both of Randleman; daughters, Tammy Wall of Sophia, Allison Bell of Simpsonville, Joanna Collete of Kernersville; sister, Bonnie Bowman of Biscoe; brother, Jimmy Ester of Edenton; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren.

Phillips Funeral Home, Star, is in charge of arrangements.

RANDLEMAN - Richard Jesse Ward, 84, of 106 E. Naomi St., died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center, Trinity.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Salem United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. David McCauley officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Fatema Routh Ward and retired from J.P. Stevens, Randleman.

Surviving are daughters, Shirley W. Day and Fay W. Campbell, both of Randleman; sons, Robert J. Ward of Randleman, Douglas R. Ward of Asheboro; brother, Kenneth Ward of Franklinville; sisters, Dorothy Voncannon and Aileen Millikan, both of Asheboro; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

SOPHIA - Jason Lee Player, 21, of 2160 Beckerdite Road, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Bill Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Guilford County, a 1998 graduate of Randleman High School and employed at Subway of Randleman.

Surviving are mother and stepfather, Dawn E. and Jack Ingram of Sophia; grandparents, Jean and Tom Emory of Ocean Isle Beach; stepbrother, Richard Allen Ingram of Thomasville; stepsisters, Hannah Elizabeth Ingram of Thomasville, Niki Ingram of Sophia; stepgrandparents, Richard and Rachel Ingram of Asheboro; great-grandmother, Pinkie Albernathy of Greensboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

TRINITY - Emily Lauren Jenkins, 16, of 664 Wilderness Trail, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ken Evans, the Rev. Joe Fitzgerald and the Rev. Danny Graham officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Guilford County, a junior at Trinity High School, where she was a member of the Student Council, the HOSA Club, Key Club, STAT Club, a Parliamentarian for the F.B.L.A. Club and served on the Yearbook and as a volunteer at the Teen Pregnancy Center.

Surviving are parents, David and Annette Jenkins of the home; brother, Taylor Davis Jenkins of the home; sister, Katelyn Grace Jenkins of the home; grandparents, Joe and Bert Chatham of Archdale, the Rev. Eugene and Berta Jenkins of Thomasville.

The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Homer C. Kelly
LIBERTY - Homer C. Kelly, 79, of 7242 Lowe Mail Road, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smithwood United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Daniel Gregory and the Rev. Dave Cash officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a member of Hickory Grove Church in Montgomery County and attended Smithwood Church of Christ in Liberty. He was a barber for over 20 years and a retired employee of Stout Chair Co.

Surviving are wife, Rosa G. Kelly of the home; son, Alvin Farrell Kelly of Julian; sisters, Stella Poole of Pekin, Bernice Tucker of Shallote, Vertie Hall of Robbins, Alta Sasser of Troy; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

John S. Scaro
WINSTON-SALEM - John Salvatore Scaro, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Knollwood Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Christopher C.F. Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

He was a native of Boston, Mass., a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Old Salem Sertoma Club and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was a volunteer with the Samaritan Soup Kitchen, Habitat for Humanity and for mission trips to Africa, Eastern Europe, China and Florida.

Surviving are wife, Virginia Brown Scaro; daughter, Judith Scaro of the home; sisters, Melly Scaro, Billie Abate and Mary Gannon, all of Massachusetts; brother, Joseph Scaro of Florida.

The family will be at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Winston-Salem, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

She was a native of Seagrove, the widow of Howard Lane Russell and a retired teacher in Asheboro and Randolph County for over 40 years.

Surviving are sister, Rosalie A. Hall of Asheboro; brother, A. R. Auman of Seagrove.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Beulah Hill Baptist Church cemetery in West End, with Pastor Allen Jones, the Rev. Lee Roy Blue and the Rev. Danny Blue officiating.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Ernest Faircloth, a member of Beulah Hill Baptist Church and was a retired nurse from Moore Regional Hospital and Sandhills Nursing Home.

Surviving are sisters, Edith Maye of Concord, Willie Mae Blackwell of Charlotte, Lillie Schopieray of Mt. Morris, Mich., Mary Jane Harris of Jackson Springs; brother, Rev. Lee Roy Blue of Hendersonville; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Monday.

CANDOR - Mary Tucker Goodwin Allen, 85, of 5731 N.C. 220 South, died Sunday Nov. 18, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery, Albemarle, with the Rev. Mark Moore officiating.

She was a native of Anson County, a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church and was retired from Russell-Harvelle Hosiery Mill.

Surviving are son, Ed Goodwin of Candor; daughter, Camilla (Millie) Yarborough of Candor; brother, Dewey Tucker of Badin; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.

Mary S. Trogdon
TROY - Mary Selby Trogdon, 86, of Tara Plantation, Carthage, formerly of 517 Wooley St., died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Tara Plantation.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Southside Cemetery, Troy, with Dr. Stan Smith Jr.

She was a native of Hyde County, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, retired from Troy Drapery Corporation, was a Troy Senior Center volunteer, and worked for the U.S. Forestry Service.

Surviving are daughters, Nancy T. Reynolds of Charlotte, Renee Selby of Norman Cay, Bahamas; sons, David Trogdon of Troy, Lee Trogdon of Albemarle, Bob Selby of Merritt Island, Fla.; sisters, Ann Macy of Wilson, Louise Hallacy of Pittsburg, Kan.; brother, Lucas Selby of Golden, Colo.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Stokes County, the widower of Ruth S. Lynch, retired From Boling Chair Company after 42 years and attended Community Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Jimmy L. Lynch of Asheboro, Bobby W. Lynch of Bear Creek, Jack V. Lynch of Staley, William E. Lynch of Burlington, Mike G. Lynch of Bonlee; daughters, Leona L. Morgan, Judy Mooneyham, both of Bear Creek, Linda Mote of Liberty; sisters, Frances Gates of Mt. Airy, Nonnie Medlin of Sanford; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Leona L. Morgan, 10696 N.C. 902, Bear Creek.
