She was a native of Stokes County, the widow of Wiley B. Dickens, a retiree from Acme-McCrary Corp., and a member of First E&R United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Mary-Martha Bible Class and the Lucille Curtis Circle.
Surviving are daughter, June D. Shaw of Asheboro; sisters, Mary Zimmerman of St. Petersburg, Fla., Roxie Hall, Gloria Willeby, both of Denton, Leila Littleton of Cheverly, Md.; brother, Vestal Pyrtle of Denton.
The family will be at the funeral home 1-2 p.m. Thursday.

RANDLEMAN - Velda Mae McCurdy Pugh, 77, of New Salem, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

She was a native of Pleasant Hope, Mo., the widow of Ewart Pugh and a quilter.
Surviving are son, Hal Pugh of New Salem; daughter, Arlene Broyles of Ramseur.

GREENSBORO - Robert Nathan Winfred Knott Sr., 64, of 116 S. Mendenhall St., died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, where he was a member, with Dr. Everette Thomas and the Rev. Phil Craig officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
He was a 1961 graduate of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a veteran of the U.S. Army and employed as a sales representative with Burlington Industries.
Surviving are sons, Steve Knott of Charlotte, Rob Knott of Columbus, Ohio, Cranford Knott of Asheboro; daughter, Margary Knott of Raleigh; one granddaughter.

He was a native of Moore County, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from Arch Knitting Co. in Asheboro.

She was retired from Gilead Manufacturing Corp.

She was a native of Randleman, a widower of John Earnhardt, a retired legal secretary from AT&T at the Guilford Center in Burlington, and was the first female Alderman in Randleman elected in 1978 where she served several terms.
Surviving are daughters, Pam E. Russell of Randleman, Abby E. Heaton of Coleridge; sisters, Kathleen Baggett and Mabel Spencer, both of Randleman, Clara Brooks of McLeansville, Martha Baker of Warwick, R.I. and Shirley Pence of Rockingham; two grandchildren; one stepgrandchild.
