CARL JUNCTION, Mo. - Evelyne Christiane James, 40, formerly of Asheboro and Carthage, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002 at St. John's Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage, Mo., with the Rev. Greg Worleywill officiating.

She was a native of Massachusetts, a 1981 graduate of Clemson University, a 1983 graduate of Medical University of South Carolina at Charleston, an occupational therapist and a certified hand therapist. She was one of the first in the nation to be certified as a hand therapist, worked for Cox Hospital of Springfield, Mo., as the director of therapy, Randolph Hospital in Asheboro and Joplin Physical Therapy in Missouri. She initiated and developed the hand therapy programs at St. Mary's, Enid, Okla., Cox North in Springfield, Mo., Randolph Hospital in Asheboro. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Asheboro, the Certified Occupational Therapist Association (COTA) and the American Hand Therapist Society.

Surviving are husband, Keith James; daughters, Samantha James and Lindsey James of the home; parents, Robert and Christiane Marshall of Springfield, Mo.; brothers, Marc Marshall of Grapevine, Texas, Phillip Marshall of Baker, Fla.

The family will be at the funeral home following the service.

Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Treva D. Allen
ASHEBORO - Treva Jane Davis Allen, 72, of 205 Valley Road, Asheboro, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Larry Moore officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County and a graduate of Grays Chapel School. She retired from Bossong Hosiery after 32 years and attended Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are husband, Charles E. Allen; daughter, Janet A. Luther of Asheboro; sons, Keith E. Allen of Randleman, Charles R. Allen and Timothy W. Allen, both of Asheboro; brother, Fred Mack Davis of Franklinville; sister, Johnsie Snider of Randleman; four granddaughters.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Betty C. Mills
ASHEBORO - Betty Elizabeth Campbell Mills, 74, of 818 Norman St., Asheboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. Ron Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Tennessee and the owner/operator of the Kitchenette Restaurant in Asheboro. She attended Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are daughter, Julia Spivey of Asheboro; brother, Paul Campbell of Oliver Springs, Tenn.; sisters, Dorothy Briggs of Salisbury, Lou Rose of Asheboro; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two stepgreat-grandsons.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to the children's charity of donor's choice.

DENTON - Pearl Exie Macon Miller, 93, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Mountain Vista Health Park, Denton.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with the Rev. Alvin B. Pope and the Rev. Randall Macon officiating. Burial will be in Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery, Denton.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Gaither Lee Miller and a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, where she taught the Adult Sunday School class and sang in the church choir. She received her education in the Randolph County Schools and retired from M.A. Pickett's Department Store in Denton.

Surviving are daughter, Jacksie Pearl M. Cumby of Mount Airy; sisters, Willie M. Fesmire and Janet M. Moffitt, both of Ramseur, Asia M. Farlow of Seagrove, Beatrice M. Fabrizio of Cortland, N.Y.; brothers, Spurgeon Macon and Jack Macon, both of Seagrove, H. Brewster Macon of Greensboro, Matthew Macon of Archdale; seven grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

SILER CITY - Mattie "Pete" Bynum, 94, of 72 Chatham Business Drive, Pittsboro, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Roberts Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, with Dr. Sampson Buie officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

James R. Cheek Sr.
BENNETT - James Randall "Jimmy" Cheek Sr., 66, of 7820 Lanes Mill Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, in Coleridge.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Concord United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Vonnie Vredenburg, the Rev. Ricky Sessoms, the Rev. Ron Wachs and the Rev. Rodney Powell officiating. Burial will be in South Fork Friends Meeting Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and a retired farmer.

Surviving are wife, Frances Wright Cheek of the home; sons, Randy Cheek, David Cheek and Mike Cheek, all of Coleridge; brothers, Broughton Cheek of Climax, Laughton Cheek of Coleridge, Boyd Cheek of Asheboro; sisters, Swanna Moffitt of Asheboro, Faye Dunn of Ramseur, Virginia Dare Patterson of Snow Camp; eight grandchildren.

MT. GILEAD - Johnsie Lee Harris, 71, of 601 Shoe Factory Road, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at FirstHealth Skilled Nursing Center, Troy.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Roper Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgom-ery County and a homemaker.

Marvin A. Poindexter
CANDOR - Marvin Albert Poindexter, 81, of 3068 N.C. 731 East, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Brother Jeff Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Surry County, retired from Bossong Hosiery as a night watchman and attended Willow Lane Baptist Church in Asheboro.

Surviving are wife, Margie R. Poindexter; daughter, Carolyn Greene of Robbins; sons, Charles Poindexter of Seagrove, Clarence Poindexter and Tommy Poindexter, both of Asheboro, Carlie Poindexter of Holden Beach, Larry Poindexter of Denton, Marty Poindexter of Candor; sisters, Hallie Brown and Inez Davis, both of Asheboro; brother, Arnie Poindexter of Cedar Falls; 31 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Tommy Poindexter, 439 Pleasant Cross Road, Asheboro.

Frank J. Diener Jr.
GREENVILLE - Frank J. Diener Jr., 73, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hollywood Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was a native of Greenville and retired as a certified Master Baker and owner and operator of Diener's Bakery. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a member of the Greenville Jaycees and American Legion Post #39, and a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner.

Surviving are wife, Lucille McGowan Diener; sons, Frank J. Diener III of New London, Conn., C. David Diener of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Vickie D. Riddle of Grimesland, Mary Lou D. Dawes of Asheboro; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Wilkerson Funeral Home, Greenville, 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

ASHEBORO - Nancy Lee Alston, 51, of 845 Lewis St., Asheboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Nebo Holiness Church, Ramseur.

She was a native of Chatham County and attended Connected Bridges Outreach Center in Asheboro, where she was a member of the choir and Bible Study class.

Surviving are mother, Ruby I. Alston of Siler City; daughter, Laura Letterlough Grayson of Ramseur; sons, Harvey James Letterlough, Troy Maurice Letterlough and Vincent Jay Letterlough, all of Asheboro; sisters, Barbara Brim of Raleigh, Alyease Foxx and Daisy Scotton, both of Siler City, Janice Alston and Brenda Alston, both of Pittsboro, Cathy Lee of Goldston; 10 grandchildren.

The family will be at Gailes Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Mamie Lee Russell, 69, formerly of Randleman, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Country Holiness Cemetery.

She was a native of Randleman and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are son, Forrest "Tony" Russell of Randleman; sisters, Grace R. Teague, Frances R. Yow, Mildred R. Oliver, Margaret R. Snow, all of Randleman, Decie R. Moody of Ramseur, Betty R. Rodden of Archdale; brothers, Winfred "Wink" Russell, Arthur "Doc" Russell, Lee Roy Russell, all of Randleman, Jimmy Russell of Greensboro.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 12:3O -1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Nellie L. Brown
RANDLEMAN - Nellie Lamb Brown, 93, of 1573 Naomi St., died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Bill Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Desmond Brown and a member of New Salem United Methodist Church. She was retired from Crestwood Furniture Ind., High Point,

Surviving are sons, E. Lloyd Brown, Harvey P. Brown, both of Randleman; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Frank Jenkins Anthony and a member of Glenola Baptist Church. She retired from Adams Millis Hosiery Co.

Surviving are son, Bobby Anthony of Trinity; sisters, Elsie Beck of High Point, Mildred Albertson of Thomasville; two grandchildren.

Harvey E. Marshall
STALEY - Harvey Elmer "Boe" Marshall, 92, of Zephyr Hills, Fla., formerly of Staley, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, in Zephyr Hills.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Staley Cemetery in Staley.

He was a native of Surry County, a retired mechanic with Harry D. Kellett Dodge-Plymouth in Greensboro and a civilian employee with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Surviving are son, H.L. "Boe" Marshall of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; sister, Bert Nichols of Surry County; two grandsons.

Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, is in charge of arrangements.

Preston T. Capps
SILER CITY - Preston Tyler Capps, 12, of 2311 Tom Stevens Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Plainfield Friends Meeting, where he was a member, with Windred Crouse and Ken and Pat Thames officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Durham County, a seventh-grader at Silk Hope Elementary School where he was a member of the drama club, and a member of the Junior Sunday School class, youth group and hand bell choir at his church.

Surviving are father, Arthur R. "Buddy" Capps of Siler City; mother, Lou Anne Johnson Capps of Siler City; brother, Marshall Capps of the home; grandparents, Judy Stevens Johnson of Siler City, Robert Lee Johnson of Murfreesboro, Ruth Reynolds of Winston-Salem; stepgrandmother, Annette Capps of Sanford.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of both William Vance Long Sr. and Arthur Lee Stewart and retired from the Food Store in Biscoe.

Surviving are son, William Vance Long Jr. of Asheboro; sisters, Edna Parsons of Troy, Iris Thompson of Siler City, Faye Campbell of Hampton, Va., Daisy Jordan of Kernersville; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

STAR - Bernice Freeman Russell, 82, of 214 Dover Church Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at her home.

She was a native of Montgomery County and retired from National Geographic Magazine.

Theola C. Greene
CHARLOTTE - Theola Harshaw Chesnutt Greene, 100, of 1000 Northwood Drive, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Charlotte Health Care Center.

Celebration of life service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Harshaw Grove Baptist Church, Randleman, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randleman and a volunteer reader at Selwyn Life and Charlotte Health Care Centers.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Brown of Atlanta, Ga., Frances C. Bullock of Charlotte; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 12:30-1 p.m. Saturday.

ROBBINS - Jimmy Ray Maness, 57, of 471 Borden Road, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Prosperity Friends Meeting, with the Rev. David Murphy officiating. Burial will be in the Maness Family Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a member of Friendship Baptist Church, owner and operator of First Choice Drywall Co. and a member of the North Moore High School Booster Club.

Surviving are wife, Linda Scott Maness; son, Steven Maness of Robbins; daughters, Lisa M. Kennedy of Robbins, Jennifer Lynn Maness of the home; brother, Billy Joe Maness of Asheboro; sisters, Velma M. Garner of Aberdeen, Clara M. Kennedy of Robbins; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.
