TROY - Donald Irving Mankowski, 66, of 321 Pee Dee Road, Mt. Gilead, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at the VA Hospital in Durham.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Troy, with the Rev. Danny Laws officiating.
He was a native of New London, Conn., a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired lab technician with United Tech Research Center. He attended Stoney Fork Baptist Church.
Surviving are wife, Virginia Mankowski of the home; son, Joseph A. Mankowski of Korea; daughter, Dana Mankowski of Connecticut; stepdaughter, Tammy Maloney of Washington, D.C.; stepson, Todd Maloney of Connecticut; sister, Carolyn Francis of Connecticut; brother, Paul Mankowski of Connecticut.
The family will be at the residence.

TROY - Edith Deaton Martin, 87, of 2285 Okeewemee Road, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Shady Grove Christian Church, with the Rev. Tracy Ritter and the Rev. Joe Collins officiating.
She was a native of Montgomery County, a former employee of Russell Hosiery Mill and a retiree from Mountain Vista Nursing Home.
Surviving are sons, B.B. Martin Jr. of Troy, John Paul Martin of Winston-Salem; brother, Ira Deaton of Asheboro; sisters, Annie Nooe of Candor and Lillie Hill of Denton; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

TROY - Louise Allen Farrell, 97, of 232 N. Main St., died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the residence, with the Rev. Raleigh Castelloe officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery.
She was a native of Montgomery County, a member of First Baptist Church of Troy and the owner of Allens of Troy.
Surviving are sons, Bill Farrell of Columbus, Ohio, B.A. Farrell of Raleigh; brother, James B. Allen Sr. of Troy; sister, Kathryn Allen Mashburn of Huntersville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

SILER CITY - Clyde Edward Johnson, 83, of 111 N. Garden Ave., Siler City, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Siler City, where he was a member, with Rev. James P. Wall and the Rev. Eugene Beane officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
He was a Chatham County native, a retiree from Collins Aikman Mfg., a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Roy Edwards Sunday School Class.
Surviving are wife, Golda Kimrey Johnson of the residence; sister, Annie Margaret Beane, of Fayetteville.

LEXINGTON - Mary Elizabeth Thomas Stanley, 70, of Brookstone Retirement Center died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at the retirement center.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a member of Southgate Baptist Church, a volunteer with Davidson County Senior Services and a recipient of the Governor's Award from Gov. Jim Hunt.

ROARING RIVER - Thelma Curry Boyd, 80, of Old 60, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at the Villages of Wilkes Skilled Care.

She was a native of Wilkes County and the widow of George Curry.

CHARLOTTE - Mabel Louise Bridges Deaton, 90, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at her home.

She was a native of Cleveland County, the widow of Ray Preston Deaton and an employee of Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co. for 43 years as an operator and retired as district chief clerk. She was a member of Green Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Joy Sunday School Class.
Surviving are son, Ray P. Deaton Jr. of Charlotte; daughter, Joyce H. Deaton of Charlotte; sister, Virginia B. Dellinger of Milford, Del.; brother, Harold R. Bridges of Greenville, S.C.

He was a native of Torrence, Calif., worked at the Randolph Vocational Workshop Inc. and attended First Assembly Church. He graduated from Bonita High School in Bonita, Calif., and attended Randolph Community College.

She was a native of Guilford County, a member of First United Methodist Church in Asheboro and retired from Sears-Roebuck Mail Order Store in Asheboro. She was the widow of Cecil Bartlett Rosson and George Fowle Burkhead.
Surviving are daughters, Dorothy Lilly of Asheboro and Barbara Gustler of Clearwater, Fla.; half-sister, Helen Scott of Kinston; five granddaughters; five great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Buchanan, Va., retired from Tramway Veneer and worked with United Telephone Company.
