Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Julia Catholic Parrish, where she was member, with Father Dan Quackenbush officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park.

She was a native of Richmond County, New York, the widow of James Gilbert Dunn Sr., a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Emma Bell of Siler City; sons, James G. Dunn Jr. of Siler City, Donald Dunn of Havre de Grace, Md.; brother, Vincent Williams Schnurr of Staten Island, N.Y.; sister, Ann Fitzgerald of Staten Island, N.Y.; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of the daughter, 430 Coleridge Road, Siler City.

Carolyn H. Colson
DENTON - Carolyn Jane Hedrick Colson, 51, of Regan Road, Lexington, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Fairview United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Alvin Pope officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County and a former employee of the Davidson County Schools.

Surviving are husband, Kenneth L. Colson Jr. of the home; sons, Phillip Colson of Lexington, Kevin Colson of the home, Michael Colson of High Point; brothers, Jackie Hedrick, Donald Hedrick and Bobby Hedrick, all of Lexington; sisters, Hazel Hedrick, Ruth Beanblossom, Louise Owens, Linda Hunt and Saundra Sargent, all of Lexington.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

CARTHAGE - Daniel B. Nunnery, 90, of 211 Nunnery Lane, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, with Pastor Eugene Ussery officiating. Burial will be in Cross Hill Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County.

Surviving are wife, Elsie Nalls Nunnery; daughter, Ruth Jane Frye of Carthage; sons, Johnny B. Nunnery, W. Henry Nunnery, Chuck N. Nunnery, Richard D. Nunnery, Roger A. Nunnery, all of Carthage; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Barbara C. Buchanan
HENDERSONVILLE - Barbara Cox Buchanan, 71, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Pardee Memorial Hospital.

No service is planned.

She was a native of Asheboro and was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Henderson County Public Library. She attended Greensboro College and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor's degree in English.

Surviving are husband, Dr. Francis A. Buchanan; son, Jim Buchanan of Charlotte; daughter, Lynne B. Allen of Oak Ridge; sister, Lucille Gurka of Pittsboro; one granddaughter.

The family will be at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Home, Hendersonville, 5-6:30 p.m. Saturday.

MANNING, S.C. - William Charles "Bill" Spencer, 67, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning, S.C.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Charlotte United Methodist Church Cemetery, Asheboro, with the Rev. Steve Wood officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County and retired from the U.S. Merchant Marines.

Surviving are wife, Betty S. Spencer; daughters, Donna Swanson of Carbon Cliff, Ill., Debra Demay of Davenport, Iowa; sisters, Alice Scott of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Ann Jones of Fitzgerald, Ga., Mildred Chrismon of Greensboro, Cleo Anderson of Lexington, Betty Warren of Roseboro; brother, Jim L. Spencer, John D. Spencer , both of Asheboro, Marvin C. Spencer of Winston-Salem.

ASHEBORO - Ronald Jerry Leonard, 62, of 2118 Pisgah Covered Bridge Road, Asheboro, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at High Pine Wesleyan Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Wyatt Hoogkamp officiating.

He was a native of High Point, formerly employed with Klopman Mills in Asheboro, Glen Raven Mills in Burlington and was the owner of Leonard's Furniture in Asheboro.

Surviving are wife, Doris Morgan Leonard of the home; sister, Peggy L. Jones of Mebane.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 1-3 p.m. Sunday.

Frank A. Coltrane
GREENSBORO - Frank A. Coltrane, 82, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at SunBridge Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Guilford Memorial Park.

He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, the widower of Mary Sue Coltrane and a member of Tabernacle Methodist Church and the North Carolina Archaeological Association.

Surviving are son, James Lee Coltrane of Harvest, Ala.; daughters, Helen Irene Coltrane of Greensboro, Gloria Jean Beaver of Concord; brother, Danny Coltrane of Greensboro; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, Vanstory Street, Greensboro, 3-5 p.m. Sunday.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Wade Hampton Bare and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Helen Brown, Nancy Holt, Pat Coble, Virginia WaIters, all of Liberty, Sara Nichols of Julian, Verl Freeman of High Point; sons, James Bare of Liberty, Everett Bare of Pleasant Garden, Wallace Bare of Grays Chapel; sister, Colene Glass of Cary; brother, Paul Foust of Asheboro; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Hattie H. Stanback
MT. GILEAD - Hattie Joyce Horne Stanback, 89, of 429 N.C. 109 South, Robedo Community, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen's United Church of God, Troy, where she was a member. Burial will be in Bruton Cemetery, Wadeville.

She was the widow of Elder Aaron W. Stanback, a homemaker, a Mother in her church, vice-president of the Missionary Society, a member of the Adult Choir, founder of the Pastor's Aide Society, chaplain of the Oak Ridge Chapter #547, Order of the Eastern Star, Mt. Gilead, and a graduate of Peabody High School, Troy.

Surviving are daughters; Catherine Ingram and Constella Marshall, both of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Elizabeth Orr and Katie McRae, both of Mt. Gilead; foster brother, Edward Dumas of Mt. Gilead; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren; a number of stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, is in charge of arrangements.

Vergie Lamonds
CANDOR - Vergie Stewart Lamonds, 86, of Cole Road, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at Autumn Care Nursing Home, Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she was a charter member, with the Rev. Jack Phillips and the Rev. Michael Free officiating. Burial will be in Candor Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Lacy Hadley Lamonds and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Neil Arthur Lamonds of Candor; daughters, Lois Loflin of Norman, Janet Loflin of Troy, Becky Burkhead and Darlene Fox, both of Candor, Faye Baker of Fayetteville, Pam Morgan of Seagrove; sisters, Lucille Leach and Lillie Jackson, both of Biscoe; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at the home on Saturday.

CARTHAGE - Lillian Davis Whitaker, 91, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at St. Joseph of the Pines, Southern Pines.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Summer Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Pastor Steve Johnson, Pastor L.M. Williamson and Pastor Joseph K. Peters officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker, had worked at Carthage Hosiery Mill and farmed.

Surviving are daughters, JoAnn George of High Point, Judy Wadsworth of Wagram; son, Jerry Whitaker of West End; sister, Lena Salmon of Carthage; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 6-8 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Jerry Whitaker, 848 Murdocksville Road, West End.

Lottie P. Thornburg
ASHEBORO - Lottie Poole Thornburg, 80, of Randleman, died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Kyle Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Joe M. Thornburg and a member of First United Methodist Church, Randleman.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

RANDLEMAN - Lewis Andrew Patterson, 61, of 6414 Georgia Drive, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at his home.

Celebration of life service will be 6 p.m. Sunday at Level Cross Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jerry Mills officiating.

He was a native of Spray, a retired painter, a member of Asheboro Municipal Golf Club and a deacon at his church.

Surviving are wife, Martha Goodall Patterson of Randleman; mother, Margaret P. Hylton of Randleman; stepfather, Edward M. Hylton of Randleman; brothers, Robert L. Hylton of Harrisburg, Pa., Ronald E. Hylton of Yadkinville, Ricky M. Hylton of Randleman; sister, Nancy P. Apple of Reidsville.

He was a native of Stokes County, the widower of Janie Murray Frye and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Surviving are sisters, Louvenia F. Crouse of Snow Camp, Elsie F. Layton of Liberty, Katrine F. Sardinia of Pompano Beach, Fla., Onita F. Mitchell of Montclair, Va.; brothers, William R. Frye, Rick Frye, Oatha Frye, all of Liberty, Rev. Homer Frye of Mebane.

She was a native of Chatham County and retired from Bon-Air Learning Center for Girls, Richmond, Va.
