HIGH POINT - Keith Reginald Tyson, 44, of 607 Arlington St., died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at New Bethel Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. John Mason officiating. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens, Jamestown.

He was a native of Norfolk, Va., a 1975 graduate of Andrews High School and attended Johnson C. Smith University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Mars Hill College, Mars Hill. He was a union representative at Valspar Corp., a member of the Young Adult choir and the Male Chorus at his church, a volunteer with Boy Scout Troop #911, served as commissioner with Scout Reach, as a Little League Football coach and as a former baseball coach.

Surviving are son, Keith Reginald Tyson Jr. of High Point; parents, Thomas and Mamie Jean Brower Tyson of the home; sisters, Cassandra T. Sturdivant of High Point, Deborah Michelle Tyson of the home.

The family will be at the church 1:30 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Haizlip Funeral Home, High Point, is in charge of arrangements.

Winnie I. Richter
MT. GILEAD - Winnie Ingram Richter, 101, died Friday, March 8, 2002.

Private graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sharon Cemetery. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church.

She was a member of Temple Beth El, Charlotte, the Montgomery County Historical Society and the D.A.R.

The family will be at the church following the memorial service.

ASHEBORO - Sarah Spivey Coble, 89, of 3066 Maness-Coble Drive, Asheboro, died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shiloh Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Bruce McLanahan and the Rev. David Schwartz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, a homemaker, an organist at her church and a past state chaplain for American War Mothers.

Surviving are husband, Roy Earl Coble Sr. of the home; sons, Roy Earl Coble Jr. and Warren W. Coble, both of Asheboro, Robert Perry Coble of Williamsburg, Va., Sydney G. Coble of Kannapolis; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 6-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Caura M. Powell
ARCHDALE - Caura Lee McGee Powell, 89, of 230 Aldridge Road, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Glenola Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Doug Davis and the Rev. Randy Quate officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Joseph Samuel Powell and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Mary Lee Jones of Archdale; sister, Wilma Harris of Randleman; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, is in charge of arrangements.

Dessie H. Teague
RAMSEUR - Dessie Hammer Teague, 92, of 4812 Riverside Road, died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Thurman Williams and Clinton Nance officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Christian Church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church.

Surviving are son, Manley Teague of Ramseur; daughter, Margaret T. Powers of Bennett; Ivey Hammer of Ramseur; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Ray F. Swain
SILER CITY - Ray Filmore Swain, 79, of 813 Woodland Drive, died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at the home of his daughter, 514 E. Bogue Sound Drive, Atlantic Beach.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park.

He was a native of Forsyth County, the widower of Jessie Motsinger Swain, a World War II U.S. Army/Air Force veteran and a graduate of Wake Forest College School of Law. He practiced law then joined Siler City Mills Inc., where he was a general manager, later retired from private law practice and was a member of First Baptist Church, Siler City, and Siler City Rotary Club.

Surviving are daughter, Annette S. Phillips of Atlantic Beach; sons, Frank E. Swain of Oriental, Steve Swain of Emerald Isle; brother, Pat Swain of Knoxville, Tenn.; sisters, Doris Sherril and Mildred McMichael, both of Winston-Salem, Margaret Ecker of California, Frances "Fuzzy" Nichols of Greensboro; three grandsons; three great-granddaughters; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Monday.

ROBBINS - Ettie Cheek Maness, 91, of 299 Grover Road, died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Pinelake Health & Rehabilitation Center, Carthage.

She was a native of Moore County and a homemaker.

Virle R. McNeill
ROBBINS - Virle Roach McNeill, 81, of 747 Hemp St. Ext., died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Monty Brown officiating. A private burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

She was a native of Polk County, the widow of C. Holt McNeill Sr., a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class at her church and a retired cosmetologist at the Carolina Hotel, Pinehurst.

Surviving are son, Bill Bradley of Yorktown, Va.; daughters, Gayle Mabe of Robbins, Sheila M. Stroud of Kinston; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Margaret Louise Atkinson Barker, 86, of 307 Mack Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fayetteville Street Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Adrian Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point.

She was a native of Robeson County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Paul Barker; daughter, Betty B. Smith of Mountain Homes, Ark; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Nellie Lawson Hardister, 79, formerly of 325 Independence Drive, Asheboro, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Britthaven of Davidson.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Christian Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a retired inspector with Union Carbide and a former nursing assistant and CNA at Cross Road Retirement Center and Brian Center. She was a member of Central Wesleyan Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, choir member, a member of the Ladies Missionary Society, and a volunteer with Our Place Adult Day Care in Asheboro.

Surviving are husband, Clarence Hardister of Asheboro; sons, B.C. Hardister Jr. of Rock Hill, S.C., Tony Hardister of Orlando, Fla.; daughter, Sharon Robbins of Asheboro; brother, Glenn Lawson of Jamestown; sisters, Eva Jordan and Annie Ruth Frazier, both of Asheboro; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of her daughter, 6133 U.S. 64 West, Asheboro.

ASHEBORO - Libby Jo Brown Wallace, 39, of 212 Foster St., Asheboro, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Richland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Thomas Smith officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, manager of TCBY, a 1981 graduate of Asheboro High School, past president of the Asheboro Jaycees and a volunteer with Christians United Outreach Centert.

Surviving are husband, Edwin Linder "Scoot" Wallace of the home; daughter, Carly Brooke Wallace of the home; parents, the Rev. Joseph E. and Lena Brown of Asheboro; sisters, Sandra Bescher of Randleman, Shirley Beckham and Vivian Saunders, both of Asheboro, Annette Parks of Troy; brothers, Benny Brown of West End, Phillip Brown of Asheboro.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of her parents, 426 Ridge St., Asheboro.

Jesse Gunter
RANDLEMAN - Jesse Gunter, 83, of 141 Worthville Road, died Monday, March 11, 2002, at V.A. Medical Center, Salisbury.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Donald Dawalt officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors.

He was formerly of St. Pauls, a World War II U.S. Army and U.S. Navy veteran, a former employee of Burlington Mills, a retired worker from Fieldcrest Mill, and an employee with Deep River Dyeing Co., Randleman.

Surviving are wife, Hazel Irene Marsh Gunter of Randleman; daughters, Iris G. Luck of Randleman, Linda Gunter of St. Pauls; son, Craig Gunter of Norfolk, Va.; sister, Maxine Tiede of Marion; brother, Paul Gunter of Summerville, S.C.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Charles T. Craig
GREENSBORO - Charles Thomas "Charlie" Craig, 60, of Gethsemane, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Reedy Fork Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. John Jolly, the Rev. Franklin Bowman and the Rev. Steve Gaines officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.

He was a native of Guilford County.

Surviving are wife, Gene Childress Craig of the home; son, Thomas "Tommy" Craig of Greensboro; mother and stepfather, Addie Craig-Cain and John T. Cain of Greensboro; brothers, Ray V. Craig of Greensboro, David C. Craig of Ramseur, Roger G. Craig, Aldean A. Craig, Larry P. Craig, all of Asheboro; sisters, Rachel L. Holmes, Jane C. Ingold, both of Greensboro; stepsister, Martha Hatley of Greensboro; two granddaughters.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, owner and operator of Trotter Motor Co. and attended Original Church of God.

Surviving are wife, Bernice Hughes Trotter of the home; sisters, Evelyn Cole of Jessup, Ga., Zunice Crotts of Burlington, Hazel Lois Byrum of Asheboro; brothers, J.V. Trotter of Cedar Falls, Erman "Bill" Trotter of Asheboro, Charles B. "Bunn" Trotter of Archdale.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

She was a native of Guilford County, a graduate of Farmer High School, a homemaker, a member of the Women's Society, Adult Sunday School class teacher and a UMYF leader at her church.

Surviving are husband, Arnold F. Russell of the home; son, Robert "Bob" Russell of Denton; three stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

SILER CITY - Max Hough, 86, of 1782 W. Third St., died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joe Casteel and the Rev. Travis Owen officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park.

He was a native of Chatham County, retired owner/operator of W. M. Hough Nationwide Insurance Agency for 31 years, attended First United Methodist Church, and was a former Sunday School teacher and deacon at Creek Baptist Church. He was a member of the North Carolina Cattlemen's Association, a former member of the Wildlife Association, a member of the Siler City Lions Club and a former employee at Maxton Air Force Base.

Surviving are wife, Virginia "Ginny" Brown Hough of Siler City; daughter, Linda H. Mitchell of Durham; stepdaughter, Jane Muse of Hampstead; brother, Labon Hough of Siler City; one grandson; two great-grandsons.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral, Siler City, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Grady D. Laughlin
ASHEBORO - Grady David Laughlin, 86, of 967 Henley Country Road, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at his residence.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Giles Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Brian Holland officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired worker from Randolph Mills, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of Giles Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are wife, Juanita Pickett Laughlin, of the residence; daughter, Jane Marie Moore of Asheboro; brother, Carl Laughlin of Randleman; sisters, Beulah Gray of Franklinville, Ola Johnson and Aretta Hill, both of Randleman and Nelia Craven of Asheboro; one grandson.

There will be no evening visitation.

SEAGROVE - Elizabeth Covington Freeman, 78, of 3460 U.S. 220 Alt. North died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Wesley Long Community Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Union Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Grady Blakely officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Guilford County, a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Biscoe, a freelance newspaper writer for the Montgomery Herald and a former writer for The Courier-Tribune.

Surviving are son, Alva Lee Freeman Jr. of Monroe; daughter, Jill Esque of Greensboro; sister, Betty Jean Page of Seagrove; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
