ASHEBORO - Grady David Laughlin, 86, of 967 Henley Country Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at his residence.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Giles Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Brian Holland officiating.
He was a native of Randolph County, a retired worker from Randolph Mills, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of Giles Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are wife, Juanita Pickett Laughlin, of the residence; daughter, Jane Marie Moore of Asheboro; brother, Carl Laughlin of Randleman; sisters, Beulah Gray of Franklinville, Leona Cox, Ola Johnson and Aretta Hill, all of Randleman and Nelia Craven of Asheboro; one grandson.
There will be no evening visitation.

STAR - Cecil Ray Freeman, 75, formerly of 169 Rocky Road, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Big Oak Church of God, with the Rev. Earl Ward and the Rev. Billy Ray Chriscoe officiating. Burial will be in Big Oak Church of God Cemetery.
He was a native of Montgomery County, Ala.
Surviving are son, Clyde Freeman of Ether; daughter, Brenda Robertson of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Mary Presnell of Florida, Learmae Flowers of Asheboro, Lois Blake of Seagrove and Colette Skeins of Denton; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

BENNETT - Lila Wright Johnson, 89, of 189 Preacher Price Road, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pine Mountain Friends Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Wiliam Miller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Orange County and was retired from Copeland Fabrics in Burlington.
Surviving are daughters, Judy Morris of Bennett, Catherine Williams of Morehead City, Patricia Church of Lake Wylie, S.C., Gladys Holt and Peggy Davis, both of Castalia; brother, Johnny Cates of Graham; sisters, Mae Latta of Durham; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

James P. McQueen
RALEIGH - James Prince McQueen, 82, of Raleigh, died March 8, 2002.
Funeral service was 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Raleigh. Burial was at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
He was a native of Derby, attended Hoffman High School, was a World War II veteran, attended North Carolina State University and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Surviving are wife, Helen Taylor McQueen of Carolina House of Durham; daughter, Celia Leal of Yadkinville; sons, Harvey McQueen of Bahama, Donald McQueen of Shanghai, China, Al McQueen of The Woodlands, Texas; three grandchildren; brother, Albert McQueen of Mooresville; sisters, Myrtle Hogan of Norman, Lillie Dunlap of Robbins and Janie McDonald of Fayetteville.

ASHEBORO - James Albert Fox Sr. of 719 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Asheboro, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at his home.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
He was employed at Pickard Fuel and Oil Company for more than 30 years and retired from Burlington Industries.

She was a native of Martinsville, Va., a homemaker and a former nursing assistant at Morehead Hospital.
Surviving are husband, Edward Marshall Hylton of the home; daughter, Nancy Jean Apple of Reidsville, sons, Dr. Robert Lee Hylton of Harrisburg, Pa., Ronald Edward Hylton of Eden/Yadkinville and Ricky Marshall Hylton of Randleman; nine grandchildren, six great- grandchildren.

RANDLEMAN - Blease Franklin "Hammer" Toomes, 76, of 10333 Randleman Road, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Level Cross Baptist Church, with military honors, and the Rev. Gerald Mills officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, with military honors.
He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a charter member of Level Cross Baptist Church. He was retired from Guilford Dairy, Owens-Illinois in Greensboro, and Level Cross Insulation, where he was a co-owner.
Surviving are wife, Nellie "Cindy" Rayle Toomes of Randleman; daughter, Joni T. Knight of Randleman; son, Terry Toomes of Randleman; six granddaughters; sisters, Betty Jean Lewis and Louise T. Rayle, both of Randleman, and Claudia Rose Vestal of Kernesville.

She was a native of Surry County, a retired hosiery model with Adams-Millis Corporation and employed with Rainbow Laundry Mat in High Point.
Surviving are son, Dale Wood of Trinity; sisters, Nellie Dunn of Reidsville, Lib Burrow and Maxine Millikan, both of Asheboro; brother, Reginald Inman of Reidsville; two grandchildren.

He was a native of Guilford County, a U.S. Navy veteran, a retired employee of the High Point Enterprise and an ordained deacon at several churches.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of James Wilson Floyd, a member of Central United Methodist Church and had worked at Bisher Hosiery Mill and Bill's Hosiery Mill.
Surviving are sons, David F. Floyd of Windsor, Conn.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Montgomery County.

She was a native of Moore County.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Rosella King, a retired worker from Bossong Hosiery Mill, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of D.A.V. Chapter 22 and the American Legion.

He was a native of Randolph County, worked at Acme-McCrary, retired from Luck's, Inc., and later worked for Jimmy Ward Hardwood. He was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church, Seagrove, where he was a former deacon, trustee, choir director, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent.
Surviving are wife, Grace Scott of the home; sons, Ray Scott and Charles Scott, both of Asheboro, Jimmy Scott of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
