JULIAN - Luther Wesley "Son" Wall, 91, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Clapp's Nursing Home, Pleasant Garden.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Wall farm in Julian, with the Rev. Otto Hardt officiating. Burial will be in Gilmore Memorial Park.

He was a native of Stokes County, the widower of Louise Reid Wall and a farmer and gardener.

Surviving are daughters, Emogene Stewart of Greensboro, Linda Fogleman of Graham; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

SILER CITY - Mattie Lee Page, 99, of 341 Airport Road, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at SunBridge Care, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Lambert Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. William Harrington officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County and a member of the Order of Eastern Star #561.

Surviving are daughter, Omega Fox of Siler City; brother, Milton Johnson of Goldston; sisters, Clara Donnell of Goldston, Nathalia Turner of Pittsboro, Jaunita Powers of Jersey City, N.J.; stepson, Clarence Mason of Newark, N.J.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 2:30-3 p.m. Sunday.

Farrar Funeral Service, Siler City, is in charge of arrangements.

CANDOR - Carrie Lona Branson Lowe, 90, of Warehouse Street, formerly of Washington, D.C., died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Autumn Care, Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, with the Rev. Mark Moore officiating. Burial will be at Candor Cemetery.

She was a native of Forsyth County, the widow of Raymond F. Lowe and a retired waitress.

Surviving are sister, Lee Cox of Houston, Texas; brothers, Loy H. Branson of Candor, Bobby Branson of Apex, Paul Branson of Eagle Springs.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Loy Branson, 305 E. Warehouse St., Candor.

RALEIGH - Joseph Palmer Jeffries, 80, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Rex Hospital, Raleigh.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Raleigh. Burial will be in Carbonton Methodist Cemetery.

He was a native of Star.

Surviving are wife, Martha Underwood Jeffries; sons, Ronald Lee Jeffries of Raleigh, Gary Stephen Jeffries of Youngsville; daughters, Linda Moss McNamara of Morehead City, Kay Moss of Aberdeen; brothers, Billy Lee Jeffries of Sanford, Thomas Talmage Jeffries of Lillington; sisters; Vada J. ASHLAND, Ky. - Burl McPeek, 88, of Robin Lynn Drive, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at the home of his son in Seagrove.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Kilgore and Collier Funeral Home, Catlettsburg, Ky., with Jack Skeens officiating. Burial will be Monday at Ford's Branch Cemetery in Pike County, Ky.

He was a native of Pike County, Ky., the widower of Hazel Robinson McPeek, a supervisor for Cummins Allison in Chicago, Ill., and a member of 13th Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Bobby Gene McPeek of Seagrove, Sterling McPeek of Ashland, Ky., Bill McPeek of Tampa, Fla., Jack McPeek of Fairborne, Ohio, Larry McPeek of Chicago, Ill.; daughters Lois Ann Vita of Washington, D.C., Barbara Hovey of Gary, Ind.; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 1-3 p.m. Sunday and at Ford's Ranch Cemetery before burial on Monday.

ASHEBORO - Clifford "Cliff" Troy Hinshaw, 79, of 135 Liberty St., Asheboro, died Friday, April 12, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Robert Kidd and the Rev. Leslie Winslow officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Hazel King Hinshaw and the former owner and operator of Cliff's Curb Market. He was a member of Asheboro Friends Meeting where he was a member of the Baraca Sunday School Class and the Quaker Men, and a member of Woodmen of the World.

Surviving is sister, Wilma Stevenson of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of J.C. and Wilma Stevenson, 583 White Oak St., Asheboro.

ASHEBORO - Robert Wayne McKenzie, 65, of 367 Mack Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, April 13, 2002, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from the Randolph County Department of Social Services as transportation coordinator, a former employee of Hardin's Wholesale Florist, a member of Back Creek Friends Meeting and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are sons, Bryan McKenzie of Asheboro, Maurice McKenzie of Anderson, S.C.; mother, Mamie Wood McKenzie of Asheboro; four grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - John Alan Reavis, 80, of 924 Redding Road, Asheboro, died Friday, April 12, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Manuel Wortman, the Rev. Mark Hall and Dr. John S. Rogers officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Yadkinville.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired from Burlington Industries where he was manager of computer leasing, a jewelry maker, gardener and a former member of the Asheboro Lions Club and Masonic Lodge 699 (Asheboro Lodge). He was a former Cub Master of Cub Scout Troop 524, Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 524 and a Sunday School teacher at his church.

Surviving are wife, Nell Brandon Reavis; sons, Steve E. Reavis of Elon, Charles "Chuck" A. Reavis of Burlington; sisters, Ruth Renegar of Radford, Va., Anna Lou Forrest of Boonville; brother, Lester J. Reavis of Gastonia; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Evangelical & Reformed United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dale Kennedy and the Rev. Jonathan Shook officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and retired from Stedman Mfg. Co.

Surviving are wife, Virginia Harris Thomas of the home; sons, Paul Thomas, Wayne Thomas, both of Asheboro, Bobby Thomas of Ramseur; daughter, Mildred Gamel of Powder Springs, Ga.; stepdaughter, Judy Gatlin of Asheboro; brothers, Leslie Thomas, George Thomas, both of Asheboro; sister, Lillie Caviness of Ramseur; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 6-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Bobby Thomas, 2059 Brooklyn Ave., Ramseur.

THOMASVILLE - James Craig Burris, 75, of 509 Reid St., died Friday, April 12, 2002, in Mt. Vista Health Park, Denton.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, with the Rev. Ron Mason officiating. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Stanly County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, owner and operator of Style Rite Beauty Salon and a member of New Grace Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Robbie Yokley Musser Burris of the home; daughters, Sana Shucart of St. Louis, Mo., Remona Harris of Dallas, Texas; sons, Robert Burris of Thomasville, Johnny Musser of the home, Jim Burris of Virginia; sisters, Polly Newton of Trinity, Geraldine Chriscoe of Seagrove, Trulie Rich of Asheboro; brother, Rayvon Burris of Florida; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

Thelma J. Davis
ROBBINS - Thelma Jean Davis, 68, of 468 Bascom Chapel Road, died Friday, April 12, 2002, at Pinehurst Nursing Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bible Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Hubert McLeod officiating. Burial will be in Dover Baptist Church Cemetery, Seagrove.

She was a native of Guilford County and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Ronald E. Davis, James Junior Davis, both of Robbins; mother, Bertha Maness Scott of Robbins; brothers, Joseph Scott of Greensboro, Robert Scott, Roy Scott, John Scott, David Scott, James Scott, all of Robbins; two grandchildren.

TROY - Barney Alvin Green Sr., 73, of 638 Eldorado St., died Saturday, April 13, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Main Street Baptist Church, Biscoe, with the Rev. Mark Medlin, the Rev. Steve Pryor and the Rev. Russell Craddock officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy.

He was a native of Montgomery County and a former machine operator at Socks, Inc., Mt. Gilead.

Surviving are wife, Opal Green of the home; sons, Roger Green of New London, David Green of Oakboro, Billy Ray Green, Johnny Green, both of Mt. Gilead, Alvin "Junior" Green of Rockingham; daughters, Joyce Rouse, Janice Green, Donna Casteen, all of Troy, Shirley Lowery of Wadeville, Patty Green of Mt. Gilead; brother, O T. Green of Troy; sisters, Verna Richardson of Mt. Gilead, Sadie Batten of Burlington; 27 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

Jefferson C. McDuffie
RANDLEMAN - Jefferson Charles "J.C." McDuffie, 71, of 815 Charter Oaks Drive, died Saturday, April 13, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Larry Bostian officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery, Bennett.

He was a native of Lee County, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a member of Unity Baptist Church in Gastonia where he was a deacon and chairman of the church finance committee.

Surviving are wife, Winnie Murray McDuffie of the home; sons, Alan J. McDuffie of the home, David A. McDuffie of Dallas; brother, Bobby McDuffie of Shallotte; sister, Faye Rosela of Pasadena, Md.; two grandchildren.

GASTONIA - Virginia Walters Butler, 80, of Covenant Village, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at her home.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Covenant Village, with Dr. Leon Smith officiating. A private burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park.

She was a native of Clarksdale, Miss., a member of First Baptist Church, Gastonia, where she was a member of the WMU, a member of the Gastonia Clean City Committee, the Gaston Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Girl Scouts of America Cookie Sale Program, and the Woman's Club.

Surviving are husband, Hoyt Clarence Butler; sons, Dr. Robert H. Butler of Asheboro, David Butler of Charlotte, H. Doug Butler of Clover, S.C.; daughter, Bonnie Matthews of Clinton; sister, Margaret Robinson of Winona, Miss.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Covenant Village following the service on Tuesday.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Kenneth Reaves and the Rev. Junior Dawkins officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a retired worker from Commonwealth Hosiery Mill in Randleman and a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Rich Barker of Randleman; daughters, Wanda Underwood of Thomasville, Linda McDowell of Randleman; son, Bobby Barker of Randleman; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Ted Morris
HIGH POINT - Ted H. Morris, 81, formerly of High Point, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at the home of his daughter in Palm Bay, Fla.

Graveside service will be noon Saturday at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.

He was a native of Guilford County, the widower of Doris H. Morris and the owner of Morris Termite and Pest Control.

Surviving are daughters, Ann M. Eddins of Randleman, Diane M. Brooks of Palm Bay, Fla.; son, Ted "Teddy" Morris Jr. of Winston-Salem; sister, Mildred M. Thomas of High Point; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of Ann Eddins following the service.

Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, is in charge of arrangements.

J.T. Brewer
EAGLE SPRINGS - J.T. Brewer, 79, of N.C. 211, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Eagle Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Zeb Moss officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was the owner and operator of Brewer's Grill for more than 30 years.

Surviving are wife, Elizabeth Brewer of the home; daughter, Judy Freeman of Eagle Springs; son, Larry Brewer of West End; brother, Alex Brewer of Robbins; sisters, Ellen McDuffie of West End, Viola Furr of Southern Pines; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Boles Funeral Home, Seven Lakes, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Charles Dodge
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Charles Nelson Dodge, 86, of Alexandria, Va., died Saturday, April 13, 2002, at INOVA Mt. Vernon Hospital.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Everly Community Funeral Care in Falls Church, Va. Burial will be at Elenwood Cemetery in Guilford, Maine, at a later date.

He was a native of Alexandria, Va.

Surviving are wife, Virginia E. Dodge; daughter, Crystal D. Sims; one granddaughter.

The family will be at the funeral home 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
