Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro with the Rev. James Hal Varner officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County and retired from Stedman Corp.
Surviving are daughter, Annette Owens of Asheboro; son, Donnie Saunders of Greensboro; mother, Lula Saunders of Asheboro; sisters, Martha Varner of Welcome, Jean Teague of Asheboro; brother, Jimmy Saunders of Asheboro, Ronnie Saunders of Troy; four grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the daughter's home, 1678 Giles Chapel Road, Asheboro.

RAMSEUR - Joseph Howard Johnson Jr., 74, of 937 Brooklyn Ave. Extension, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Loflin Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Derstine officiating. Burial will be at the Harmony Baptist Church cemetery.
He was an Alamance County native, a painter and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

He was employed with Ace/Avant, Archdale.

LEXINGTON - Arvil Coy Leonard, 89, formerly of Rowe Road, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Centerclair Nursing Home.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Shiloh United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Nathan Snider officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Davidson County, the widower of Vallie Briggs Leonard and retired from Burlington Furniture, Philpott Plant.
Surviving are son, Briggs Leonard of Lexington; one grandson; two great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge in Salisbury, an officer in the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of First Presbyterian Church, Asheboro, and a retired chemical engineer in the industrial rubber industry.
Surviving are Dolores Marie Semon Hogan of the home; daughters, Susan Marie Fraley of Cleveland, Deborah Dolores Rogers of Hickory; four grandchildren.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Louis Cheek and a member of the United Methodist Women. She was retired from North Moore High School cafeteria and the former co-owner of Cheek's Shoe Store in Robbins.

Surviving are foster daughter, Fonda McSwain of Sanford; sisters, Margaret Murphy and Jessie Mae Clinard, both of Greensboro; three foster grandchildren; two foster great-grandchildren.
