ASHEBORO - Alfred Calvin Hurlburt, 76, of 1035 Old Liberty Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Wesleyan Church, Randleman, where he was a member, with the Rev. Don Hurlburt, the Rev. Paul Griffin and the Rev. Mark Wilburn officiating. Graveside service will be 5 p.m. at Southlawn Memorial Park, Petersburg, Va.

He was a native of Hopewell, Va., the retired postmaster of Hopewell, Va. and a member of Gideons International.

Surviving are wife, Ruth M. Hurlburt of the home; daughters, Miriam F. Griffin of Asheboro, Phyllis H. Adams of Burke, Va., Beatrice E. Hurlburt of Bayse. Va.; sons, M. Alfred Hurlburt of Albemarle, the Rev. Don E. Hurlburt of Randleman; sister, Merle Cresswell of Schuylkill Haven, Pa.; 10 grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Rev. Ron Hurlburt, 129 Tabernacle St., Randleman.

H. Alan Williams
RAMSEUR - Harold Alan Williams, 43, of 1363 Steele St., died Monday, May 27, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Central Falls Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. John Mangum, the Rev. Clay Davis, the Rev. Dale Collingwood and the Rev. Adrian Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Mr. Tabor Community Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County and the owner and operator of Superior Painting and Remodeling for more than 15 years. He played bass guitar for Sunday services at Central Falls Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Debbie Langley Williams of the home; son, Zachary Williams of the home; daughter, Kristina Williams of the home; mother, Helen Dunn Williams of Asheboro; brother, Tony Williams of Asheboro; sister, Janice Moody of Asheboro.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

DENTON - Kennith R. Wilkins, 76, of Daniel Street, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Thomasville Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Joe Collins and the Rev. Max Shoaf officiating. Burial will be in Denton Town Cemetery.

He was a native of Phoebus, Va., a graduate of Denton High School, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired supervisor at Burlington Industries, Denton plant. He was also a member of Central United Methodist Church, Denton Lodge #404 AF and AM and Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are wife, Peggy Morgan Wilkins of the home; daughters, Kenny W. Swicegood of Lexington, Linda W. Carroll of Denton; brothers, Bobby Wilkins of Shreveport, La., Joe M. Wilkins of Charlotte; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Dewey L. Marley Sr.
BENNETT - Dewey Linville "Hunky" Marley Sr., 87, of SunBridge Care, Siler City, formerly of Bennett, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at SunBridge Care.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bennett Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, the widower of Emma Tillman Marley and Frances Anderson Marley, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and played semi-pro baseball. He was an employee at Riverside Country Club and a retired loom fixer.

Surviving are son, Dewey L. "Lindy" Marley Jr. of Greensboro; daughter, Jennie Frye of Newport News, Va.; stepson, Terry Anderson of Greenville, S.C.; stepdaughter, Cheri Johnson of Pine Mt., Ga.; sister, Mabel Farabee of Greensboro; six grandchildren; one stepgrandson; eight great-grandchildren.

ALBEMARLE - Carl Morris, 90, of 24445 Endy Road, formerly of Troy, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Troy, where he was a member, with the Rev. Grady Blakely officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, the widower of Hazelene Correll Morris and a former employee of Capel Rug Mill and Troy Drapery Corp.

Surviving are daughter, Linda M. Blakely of Statesville; son, Gene Morris of Albemarle; brother, Frank Morris of Troy; sister, Maudie Darnell of Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Troy 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Jesse F. Dobbins
BOONVILLE - Jesse Franklin Dobbins, 57, of Woodruff Road, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Turners Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Pastor Curtis Gibson, Assistant Pastor David Maynard and the Rev. Allen Barker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Yadkin County, he worked with Estes Express of Charlotte and as a road driver.

Surviving are wife, Joyce Whitaker Dobbins of the home; children, Robin Dobbins, Gail Dobbins, Jesse Franklin Dobbins Jr., all of Mocksville, Frankie Lynn Dobbins of Spring Lake, Tonya D. Johnson of Boonville; stepchildren, Sandy Vestal of State Road, Penny Vestal of Elkin; sisters, Blanche D. Hutchens of Yadkinville, Barbara D. Allred of Hamptonville; brother, Gray Dobbins of Ramseur; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Frank Harris
ASHEBORO - Fermon Franklin "Frank" Harris, 55, of 530 N. Elm St., died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Chatham Memorial Hospital.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Oscar Rush officiating.

He was a native of Chatham County, the widower of Gracy Hill Harris, of the Methodist faith and employed with the City of Asheboro for over 20 years.

Surviving are daughters, Fermena Harris of Greensboro, Centera Harris of the home; son, Torrey Harris of the home; mother, Luby Harris of Bear Creek; sisters, Frances Roundtree of Chapel Hill, Vanessa Wise of Bear Creek; brothers, Fletcher Harris and Clyde Harris, both of Bear Creek.

The family will be at Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church, Bear Creek, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.

Pastor Michael W. Lamb
ASHEBORO - Pastor Michael Winfred Lamb, 48, of 4427 New Hope Church Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Farmer Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Pastor Jeff Lamb, Pastor Neil Poole, Pastor Darrell Moore, Pastor Jonathan Burris and Pastor Buddy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Seagrove United Church of Christ Cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, a missionary evangelist to area rest homes and attending Faith Temple Baptist College for a Bible Diploma. He was a member and vice-president of the Moore-Montgomery Amateur Radio Club, a team leader for W4VEC, a volunteer examiner for Amateur Radio testing in Randolph, Montgomery, and Moore counties, 4th region net manager for the National Traffic System and assistant emergency coordinator for amateur radio emergency services in Montgomery County.

Surviving are wife, Suzzane Graves Lamb; son, Dane Lamb of the home; parents, Frank and Jackie Lamb of Asheboro; brothers, Pastor Jeff Lamb of Troy, Pastor Greg Lamb of Canton, Ga., Mark Lamb of Randleman, Brian Lamb and Jason Lamb, both of Asheboro; sisters, Mona King of Mt. Gilead, Evelyn Lamb of Asheboro, Pamela Johnson of Seagrove, Alice Singleton of Broken Arrow, Okla.

The family will be at Farmer Baptist Church 6-9 p.m. Thursday.

Walter E. Woods
ASHEBORO - Walter Ernest Woods, infant son of Lonnie Woods Jr. and Pam Woods of 156 E. Academy St., Asheboro, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Red Cross Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Gil Massengill officiating.

Surviving in addition to the parents are brother, Jacob Woods of the home; grandparents, Cindy and Ricky Cox of Asheboro, Lonnie and Emma Woods of Franklinville; great-grandparents, Darlene Coltrane of Climax, Chellie Woods and Dorothy Dunn, both of Greensboro.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Lonnie and Emma Woods, 1540 Whites Memorial Road, Franklinville.

Troy A. Hall
RANDLEMAN - Troy Addison Hall, 93, formerly of Sophia, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at Carillon Assisted Living of Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Sophia United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jack Clark and the Rev. Bill Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was the widower of Exie Lamar Hall.

Surviving are sons, Earl Hall of Randleman, Forrest Hall of Asheboro, Norman P. Hall of Sophia; brothers, Cletus Hall of Randleman, Grady Hall of High Point; sister, Lucille Waynick of Greensboro; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

RAMSEUR - Monty Christopher Kivett, 41, of 1949 N.C. 22 South, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at his home.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Knoll Cemetery, with Dr. Gary Moger officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County and employed as a mechanic.

Surviving are sons, Jerry Christopher Kivett of Manassas, Va., Justin "J.R." Kivett of Ramseur; parents, Jerry and Wilma Ray Burgess Kivett of Ramseur; sister, Lisa Gay Johnson of Milner, Ga.; brother, Maj. Ryan Burgess Kivett of Columbus, Ohio.

The family will be at the home of his parents, 1949 N.C. 22 South, Ramseur.

Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret F. Davis
GREENSBORO - Margaret Rachel Farlow Davis, 88, formerly of 6752 Coltrane Mill Road, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, in Country Club Nursing Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Marlboro Friends Meeting, with Pastor John Sides and Dr. Bob Medford officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Merld L. Davis, and a Recorded Friends Minister serving Poplar Ridge, Woodland, and Centre Friends Meetings. She was a missionary in Jamaica and a Social Services specialist in Wayne County, Ind.

Surviving are stepson, Ray Davis of Indianapolis, Ind.; stepdaughter, Ruthana Hadley of Philadelphia, Pa.; sister, Martha F. Hodgin of Greensboro; brother, Joe Farlow of Trinity; five stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday. Other times the family will be at their homes.

Ed Wallace
DENTON - Edward Myron Wallace Jr., 73, of East Newsom Avenue, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at Thomasville Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Friday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. G. Melvin Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Denton Town Cemetery.

He was a native of Rahway, N.J., a graduate of the Pingry School in Elizabeth, N.J. and Vermont Academy in Saxton's River, Vt., and a 1956 graduate of Catawba College, with an AB degree in history and English and where he was managing editor of The Pioneer college newspaper. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, worked on various military newspapers and worked in radio at WJRI in Lenoir and WBUY in Lexington. He was a sanitarian with the Randolph County Health Department, a former member of the Denton Lions Club where he was club secretary and district cabinet secretary and named 1979-80 Lion of the Year. He served as chairman of the Lions Club Miss Denton Pageant, was a VAVS chairman, served as a member of the Denton Volunteer Fire Department and on the local Board of Directors of the N.C. Firemen's Relief Fund. He was a member of the Denton Zoning Board of Adjustment, a coordinator of the Denton Holiday Festival, a recipient of the Jaycees' Distinguished Service Award and a founder of Bullaboy Production Co.

Surviving are wife, Venus Beck Wallace of the home; daughters, Theresa Matthews and Suzi Fire, both of Denton; brother, John S. Wallace of New Jersey; sister, Anne W. Pitcher of New Jersey; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Theresa Matthews, 730 N. Main St., Denton.

Rita G. Pullman
WINSTON-SALEM - Rita Grace Pullman, 46, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be noon Saturday at Lewisville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Priest and Pastor Ed Arroyo officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Forsyth County, a member of Central Carolina Community Church in Asheboro and a former member of Lewisville Baptist Church. She was a volunteer at the Pentagon after the Sept. 11 attack and had done mission work in Mexico.

Surviving are husband, Bill Pullman of the home; daughter, Tara Randolph Pullman of the home; son, William Randolph Pullman III of the home; parents, Fred A. "Nick" Conrad and Grace Davis Conrad of Lewisville.

The family will be at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Silas Creek Chapel, Winston-Salem, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Estelle R. Halso
CHINQUAPIN - Estelle Raynor Halso, 90, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Duplin General Hospital in Kenansville.

Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Friday at Community Funeral Home, Beulaville, with the Rev. Jim Brinkley officiating. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Halso-Batts Cemetery, Chinquapin.

She was the widow of James Reynold Halso and a charter and founding member of Salem Presbyterian Church, Chinquapin.

Surviving are daughter, Oliva H. Maready of Chinquapin; sons, Edsil Scott Halso of Asheboro, James "Jimmy" Rexford Halso, Rudy Vallie Halso, both of Chinquapin; sister, Ethel Batts of Warsaw; brother, O'Berry Raynor of Pin Hook; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home following the service on Friday.
