Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. William Christopher Thore officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
He was a native of New York, the widower of Marjorie Marr Evans and a member of Central United Methodist Church.
Surviving are sons, Richard I. Evans of Asheboro, Roger W. Evans of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters, Doris Hoffman of Asheboro, Velma Prentice of Courtland, N.Y., Thelma Smith of Vestal, N.Y., Marion Lodge of Marathon, N.Y.; brother, Norman Evans of Binghamton, N.Y.; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

SILER CITY - John J. Brown Jr., 79, of 417 Pine Lake Drive, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at his home.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Joe Casteel officiating. Burial will be in Shepherd Memorial Park, Hendersonville.
He was a native of Spartanburg, S.C., the widower of Carolyn Kelly Brown and the retired owner of Genco Ceramic Co. He was a member of the Siler City Lions Club, a graduate of North Carolina State University and a World War U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are sons, William Prather Brown of Cary, John Barron Brown of Grapevine, Texas; daughter, Lee Brown of Sanford; brother, Bill Brown of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandsons.

She was a native of Darlington, S.C., retired after 38 years from Union Carbide of Asheboro and a member of Henderson Hills Baptist Church of Grantville.

She was a native of Forsyth County, the widow of Burkett P. Phillips, a homemaker and a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class at her church.
Surviving are sons, Billy Joe Phillips and Garry Phillips, both of Bear Creek; daughters, Ethelda P. Stumpf, Berta Lou Scott and Jane Phillips, all of Bear Creek, Sue P. Farlow of Raleigh; half sister, Ruth Richardson of Mocksville; 26 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Guilford County and worked at Cone Mills.
