MT. GILEAD - Decatur Jones Jr., 79, of 206 N. School St., died Monday, June 17, 2002, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Stradford Snively officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery.
He was a native of Pender County, the widower of Virginia Webb Jones, a graduate of N.C. State with a masters and a retired school teacher, serving 35 years with the N.C. school system and the N.C. community college system. He was an elder in the Blackmer Lodge #127, a member of VFW Post 10940, American Legion Post 92 and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.
Surviving are sons, Craig Jones of Troy, Doug Jones of Albemarle, Francis D. Jones of Raleigh, Phillip Jones of Charlotte; brother, William R. Jones of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Louise J. Rosace of Girard, Ohio; half sister, Mildred Arnette of Burgaw; two grandchildren.
The family will be at the church 12:30-2 p.m. Thursday.

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Ruth G. Sheriff, 93, of Village Drive, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Coquina Center.
She was a retired credit clerk with the former Daytona Beach General Hospital, an Avon representative and a volunteer at several area elementary schools, including Tomoka Elementary.
Surviving are sons, John Sheriff of Ormond Beach, Fla., Thomas Sheriff of Asheboro; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

She was a native of Chatham County, retired from Pomona Pipe Company and held numerous church offices at her church.

He was a native of Stanly County, the widow of Louise Huneycutt Holt and the retired owner of International Harvester Dealership. He had served as president of Carolina Farm Equipment Dealers Association, was a member of the Asheboro City Council in the 1940s, served on the Asheboro Planning and Zoning Board, was a member of the Asheboro Rotary Club and was a Trustee Emeritus of Pfeiffer University, where he received a Doctor of Humane Letters degree. He served as Sunday school Superintendent, taught Sunday school and served on the governing board of his church.
Surviving are son, Allen F. Holt of Asheboro; daughter, Mildred I. "Mimi" Holt of Asheboro; brother, R. Glen Holt of Asheboro; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren.

He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Chemistry and a Masters in Teaching. He was retired from Asheboro City Schools after 33 years, a member of First United Methodist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are wife, Rosemary Mason Hayworth of the home; daughters, Amy Phillips of Carthage, Julie Hayworth-Perman of Raleigh; brothers, Samuel Hayworth of Rocky Mount, Dr. Ray M. Hayworth of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister, Sara Hayworth Davis of Charlotte; one grandson.
