He was a native of Chatham County and a retired auto mechanic.

STAR - Melva Cranford Reynolds, 90, formerly of Leach Street, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.
Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. Joseph W. Forbes officiating. Burial will be in Star United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are daughters, Pat Atkinson of Mocksville, Evelyn Saunders of Troy; sons, Joe C. Reynolds of Fayetteville, Charles D. Reynolds of Star; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

LAKE WACCAMAW - Ruby Nance Burney, 86, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Columbus County Hospital, Whiteville.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bobby Tyson officiating. Burial will be in Lake Waccamaw Hillcrest Cemetery.
She was a native of Columbus County and the widow of Irvin E. Burney Sr.
Surviving are daughter, Linda B. York of Ramseur; son, I. Edward "Eddie" Burney of Cerro Gordo; sister, Myrtle McAllister of Cerro Gordo; six grandchildren.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Chip Miller, the Rev. Hal McNeely and the Rev. Allen Sanders officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
She was a member of the Women in the Church.

She was a native of Annapolis, Md., retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a U.S. Army veteran.

She was a native of Guilford County, a retired secretary and a member of Elise Presbyterian Church in Robbins.

He was a native of Star, the widower of Verdie Auman Freeman and a retired worker from the N.C. Department of Correction. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, a Sunday School teacher, in the Youth Group and as a Youth Counselor at Fort Caswell.
Surviving are daughter, Mary Frances Senger of Greensboro; son, Paul Freeman of Asheboro; brother, Leonard Freeman of Asheboro; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Stanly County, owner/operator of S.L. Garris Grading & Paving, a graduate of Badin High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Gideons International and served as president of the South Davidson Camp of Gideons International.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of William Earl Oglesby Sr., a retired supervisor with General Electric and a worker with Randolph Hospital's nursing department. She was in the Senior Choir and Sunday School at her church and a member of the Randolph Quilter's Guild and Westwood Garden Club.
Surviving are daughters, Helen Wood Holt of Kernersville, Jane O. Pugh of Winston-Salem, Sally O. Sink of Thomasville; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
