Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. J. Keith Auman officiating.

She was a native of Orange County and a homemaker

Surviving are daughter, Joan P. Wall of Randleman; sister, Ruth Harshman of Shallotte; brother, Claude Boggs of Asheboro; one granddaughter; one stepgrandson.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 1-2 p.m. Sunday.

Roxie P. Hall
DENTON - Roxie Pyrtle Hall, 90, of 4129 Jackson Creek Road, Denton, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jeff Lamb officiating.

She was a native of Delk, the widow of Leonard W. Hall and a retired worker from American Can Co. in Baltimore, Md.

Surviving are brother, W. Vestal Pyrtle of Denton; sisters, Gloria Willeby of Denton, Lelia Littleton of Bowie, Md., Mary Zimmerman of St. Petersburg, Fla.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Ricky L. Swaney
DENTON - Ricky Lee Swaney, 44, of Slate Mine Road, New London, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Ray Swaney and the Rev. Jay Hulin officiating. Burial will be in Pierce's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Davidson County, he worked at Council Craftsmen.

Surviving are parents J.B. and Betty Swaney of Trinity; brother, Wayne Swaney of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of the parents, 2830 Ross Wood Road, Trinity.

Vernessa Legrande
MT. GILEAD - Vernessa "Monkie" Legrande, 46, of 5048 N.C. 109 South, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Oliver Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. W.H. Sturdivant officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery

She was a native of Richmond County and attended the public schools of Montgomery and Richmond counties.

Surviving are sons, Dexter Legrande of Candor, Vadal Legrande of Asheboro, Curtis Legrand, of Wadesboro; father, Fred Legrande of the home; sisters, Mary Goetsch of High Point, Teresa Goetsch of Brooklyn, N.Y., Ruby Legrande of Troy; brothers, David Legrande of Mt. Gilead, Theodore Medley of High Point, Kenny Legrande of Troy; 11 grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of the father, 5048 N.C. 109 South, Mt. Gilead.

Carolyn S. Allison
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - Carolyn Snow Allison, 56, of Sevierville, formerly of Siler City, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Fort Sanders-Sevierville Medical Center.

Funeral service was held July 27 at Atchley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joe Farlow, the Rev. David Windham, Chaplain Peter Owen and Pastor Ed Close officiating.

She was a native of Canton, Ohio, a graduate of East Canton and the former owner of Country Mouse Picture Framing in Asheboro.

Surviving are husband, David Leroy Allison; son, David Leroy Allison Jr. of North Carolina; daughter, Kathleen Marie Allison Windham of Lakeland, Fla.; brothers, Nicholas J. Putsay of Granville, Ohio, Steven Putsay, David Putsay, both of Canton, Ohio; sister, Jennifer Norrick of Canton; four granddaughters.

ASHEBORO - Jefferson Davis Wallace, 71, of 490 Foxworth Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Falls United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jacqueline Elliott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Ramtex Inc., and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are wife, Betty Bray Wallace of the home; son, Jeff Wallace of Asheboro; brothers, Ed Wallace, Paul Wallace, both of Franklinville, Ira Wallace of Springfield, Va., Reeves Wallace of Boiling Springs; sister, Peggy Midkiff of Greensboro; one granddaughter.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at West Asheboro Church of God, with the Rev. Thurman Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

She was a native of Surry County, the widow of John Clinton Williamson and a homemaker.

David M. Newlin
SNOW CAMP - David Marlette Newlin, 74, of 2827 Greenhill Road, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Alamance.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home, Graham. Burial will be in West Grove Friends Meeting cemetery.

He was a native of Alamance County, owner of Hickory Grove Dairy Farm and a member of West Grove Friends Meeting, where he was an elder.

Surviving are wife, Dixie Byrd Newlin of the home; daughter, Elaine N. Lindley of Snow Camp; sons, Lawrence David Newlin of Greensboro, Charles Mahlon Newlin of Snow Camp, James Francis Newlin of Haw River; sisters, Ruth N. Coble of Greensboro, Helen N. Lineberry of Charlotte; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

THOMASVILLE - Annie Lee Hepler Hughes, 88, of 6328 Post Road, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at the home of her daughter.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Karl Kelly, the Rev. Ardis Payne and Merrill Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of W. Guy Hughes, a graduate of Trinity High School and retired from Fremont Hosiery Mill. She was a member of the Ladies' Bible Class, United Methodist Women and a former member of the church choir at her church.

Surviving are daughter, Kathryn H. Davis of Thomasville; son, Merrill Hughes of Thomasville; sisters, Maggie Jane Sink, Ollie Satterfield, both of Thomasville; seven grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.

The family will be at Family Funeral Care, Thomasville, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of her daughter, 6326 Post Road, Thomasville.

EAGLE SPRINGS - John "Jack" Calvin Alston, 67, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Holly Grove Missionary Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are sisters, Cammie Bowden of Candor, Arnetta Maness of Biscoe; brother, Emmet Alston of Taylortown.

ARARAT - Mary June Atkinson Watson, 72, of 640 Little Mountain Church Road, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Little Mountain Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Rayton Puckett and the Rev. Zeno Groce officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Surry County, was a homemaker and had taught Sunday school at her church.

Surviving are husband, Rev. Bill Watson of the home; daughters, Cathy Wall of Asheboro, Gaynell Christenberry of Statesville, Tanya Johnson of Ararat; sons, Mike Watson of Mt. Airy, Greg Watson of Ararat; sisters, Polly Collins of Mt. Airy, Carolyn McBride of Toast; brothers, Bill Atkinson of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Tom Atkinson, Don Atkinson, Bud Atkinson, all of Mt. Airy; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 6-9 p.m. Saturday.

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Jessie Pugh Estridge, 86, died Aug. 1, 2002, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Gray's Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Grays Chapel, the widow of H. Ray Estridge and retired from J.C. Penney and Co. after 53 years.

Surviving are daughter, Carolyn Smith of Burke, Va.; sisters, Frances Schaffner of Liberty, Kathleen Allen of Charlotte, Joyce Pates of Bethesda, Md., Ruby Neese of Wilmington, Jaunita Strader of Lygoff; brothers, Jack Pugh, Bruce Pugh, Herb Pugh, all of Grays Chapel; one granddaughter.

He was a native of Moore County and a former hosiery mill employee.

Surviving are wife, Linda Davis of the home; daughter, Vickie Davis of Star; sons, James Davis of Ellerbe, Donavan Davis of Asheboro, Leslie Davis of Wilmington; stepsons, Harold Blake and Jeffery Blake, both of Troy; stepdaughter, Vivian Cooke of Troy; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Albert T. Ward
ASHEBORO - Albert T. Ward, 90, of 2147 Rose Lane, Asheboro, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Wesleyan Church, Randleman, where he was a member, with the Rev. Don Hurlburt and the Rev. Mark Wilburn officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Nicholas County, W.Va., and a retired coal miner.

Surviving are wife, Margaret Ward of the home; daughter, Nancy O'Dell of the home; sons, Robert Ward of Greensboro, Richard Ward of Lexington, Randy Ward of Lockport, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and a member of Beulah Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, William Frank Kiser Jr. of Siler City, Gary Wayne Kiser of Trinity; daughters, Frances Fields of Graham, Jo Ann Brady of Newport, Betty Hayes of Seagrove; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Calvin and Betty Hayes, 7567 Bennett Road, Seagrove.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a homemaker.

ASHEBORO - Mary Dorothy Sobieski, 91, of 726 W. Kivett St., Asheboro, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at her home.

A private service will be held. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur, Ill.

A native of Spring Valley, Ill., she retired from Allied Industrial Workers of America.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Liberty Road Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Jim Turner and Pastor Wayne Parker officiating.

Surviving are parents, John and Jennifer Lincoln of the home; brothers, Micah Austin Lincoln and John Cameron Lincoln, both of the home; grandparents, Judy and Larry Lincoln of Level Cross, Marciel Phelps of Greensboro, Clarence Thomas Wood of Pennsylvania; stepgrandfather, Raney Phelps of Pleasant Garden.
