Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Parsons Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Buck Frye officiating.

He was a native of Stanly County, a graduate of West Montgomery High School and an employee of BFI.

Surviving are father, Brantley Lee of Candor; mother, Carol H. Lee of Troy; sisters, Kim Corbett of Troy, Lisa Talbert of Mt. Gilead; brothers, Clint Johnson and Charles Lee, both of Mt. Gilead; grandmother, Irene Nordan of Mt. Gilead.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the homes of Carol Lee, 753 Troy-Candor Road, Troy, and Brantley Lee, 3449 Pekin Road, Candor.

Winfred L. Ingold Jr.
CARTHAGE - Winfred L. Ingold Jr., 76, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. David Coffey officiating.

He was a native of Alexander County, a U.S. Army/Air Force veteran and a 1950 graduate of N.C. State University. He was a retired agriculture teacher at Carthage School and Union Pines High School, a member of American Legion Post #12, and a past member of the Fire District Board and the Carthage Jaycees.

Surviving are wife, Ruby Harkins Ingold; daughter, Donna Rhyne of Greenville, S.C.; sons, Roger Ingold, Steve Ingold, Tracy Ingold, all of Carthage; sister, Ophelia Zachary of Taylorsville; one grandson.

Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

CARTHAGE - Lillie Ann Kennedy, 82, of 801 Pinehurst Ave., died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at Pinelake Health & Rehabilitation, Carthage.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Acorn Ridge Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. John Williamson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and a homemaker.

Surviving are sisters, Millie Brown of Star, Alene Freeman of Albemarle.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from Union Carbide. She attended Greystone Baptist Church.

SILER CITY - Gladys Fields Phillips Jones, 84, of 850 Webster St., Palo Alto, Calif., died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in Palo Alto.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, Bear Creek, with the Rev. G. Paul Phillips and the Rev. Robert Capps officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of Carl Jones Jr., a member of Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto, Calif., and a retired worker from the Social Security Administration in St. Paul, Minn.

Surviving are sons, Carl Jones III of Palo Alto, Calif., Stephen G. Jones of Minneapolis, Minn.; sister, Barbara Gibson of High Point; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

He was a native of Moore County and a motor grader operator for the N.C. Department of Transportation.

He was a native of Randolph County.

ASHEBORO - Austin Beasley Jr., 82, of 301 E. Central Ave., Asheboro, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at 717 W. Wainman Ave., Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Ernest Mangum officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Graybull, Wyo., a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and formerly employed with Klopman Mills as a diesel mechanic and Auto Supply Co. as an auto mechanic.

Surviving are sons, Cleve Beasley, Ronald Beasley, Michael Beasley, all of Asheboro, Donald Beasley of High Point; fiancee, Alma Tyson of Asheboro; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

SILER CITY - Lois Matthews, 71, of 980 Lane Jordan Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at her home.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Jordan Grove A.M.E. Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gene Horton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County and retired from Boling Chair Company.

Surviving are son, Frankie Matthews of Siler City; foster sons, Patrick Lucas and Derrick Brown, both of Siler City; sisters, Christine Brooks, Betty Brooks, Faydean Lucas and Edna Johnson, all of Siler City; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two foster grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 7-8 p.m. Thursday.

STAR - Cube Walter Kern, 87, of 360 Center St., died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

Graveside service with Masonic rites will be 11 a.m. Friday at Leach Cemetery, with the Rev. Lacy V. Frye officiating.

He was a native of Montgomery County, retired from Montgomery County Schools Maintenance Department, a member of Biscoe Lodge #437 AF & AM where he was a 32nd degree Mason, a retired volunteer fireman and a member of Star United Methodist Church.

Surviving are wife, Madeline Saunders Kern of the home; daughters, Betty Ingold of Star, Vivian Greene of Seagrove; sons, Buddy Kern of Star, Van Kern of Troy; sister, Nona McKenzie of Denton; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

CARTHAGE - Jerry S. Dismukes, 64, of 220 Mine Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Priest Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Wilson Harris officiating.

He was a native of Montgomery County, the widower of Gloria White Dismukes and retired from G&J Auto Parts in Carthage where he was manager.

Surviving are daughter, JoAnn Dismukes of West End; sisters, Juanita Fitzpatrick of Sanford, Ruth Palmer of Troy; mother, Addie Davis Dismukes of Troy.

The family will be at the home.

CARTHAGE - Joseph Picerno, 71, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at New Life Tabernacle in Aberdeen, with the Rev. Dennis Patterson officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, with full military honors.

He was a native of Jamaica, N.Y., a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a POW, and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the DAV, VFW and American Legion Post #12, and a harness horse trainer in New York and Pinehurst.

Surviving are wife, Betty Harris Picerno; sons, Nick Picerno and Tony Picerno, both of Seven Lakes; sisters, Rosie Caccavo of Baldwin, N.Y., Julia Marcy of Leesburg, Fla.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

He was a native of Moore County and a retired sawmill worker and farmer.

ROCKINGHAM - Fairly Dawkins, 87, of Rockingham Manor, formerly of 502 Midway Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Carter Funeral Home, Rockingham, with the Rev. Annie Mae Sproles and Donnie Robson officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.

He was a native of Scotland County, a charter member of Harvest Ministries Congregational Holiness Church and retired from Trailways Bus Lines where he had been a 1,000,000 mile safe driver.

Surviving are wife, Margaret Lampley Dawkins of Rockingham; son, Fairly A. Dawkins of Belmont; daughters, Ruby Joyce Grooms of Arlington, Texas, Lucille D. Barrington of Greensboro, Rev. Annie Mae Sproles of Rockingham; sisters, Katie Brigman of Laurel Hill, Margaret Long of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Clifford M. York
TAYLORSVILLE - Clifford Michael "Mike" York, 44, died Sunday, Aug., 4, 2002, in Alexander County.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Restland Funeral Home, Taylorsville, with Dr. George Davis and the Rev. Neal Jeffrey officiating. Interment will be at the Court of Trinity cryptonium.

He was a native of Asheboro, a graduate of J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson, Texas, and attended Texas A&M University. He formerly attended First Baptist Church of Dallas, was a charter member of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas, and a member of the Clarion and Chapel Youth Choirs. He was a 1991 graduate with high honors of Houston Community College with a degree in Green Industry Technology and had been employed in the hotel restaurant business and as a computer administrator for Houston Social Services.

Surviving are parents, Dennis and Hilda York of Dallas, Texas; brother, Mark York of Plano, Texas.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Commonwealth Hosiery and attended Worthville Baptist Church.

Surviving is sister, Betty Lovell of Randleman.
