ROBBINS - Joseph Lacy Johnson, 72, of 5011 N.C. 705, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bear Creek Congregational Church, with the Rev. Ezell Maness officiating. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery.

He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 42 years.

Surviving are daughters, Linda Chisholm of Highfalls, Shelby McKeithen of Vass, Geneice Powell of the home, Camilla Marsh of Candor, Dequilla Spencer of Robbins, Brenda Johnson of Forest Heights, Md.; sons, Cleveland Johnson of Siler City, Jeffery Johnson and Ricky Johnson, both of Seagrove; mother, Swannie Johnson of Robbins; brother, Ben Johnson of Jamestown; sisters, Priscilla Jones of Charlotte, Laverne Williams and Marion Brooks, both of Robbins; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church noon-2 p.m. Saturday.

Rev. Hal T. Brown
ASHEBORO - The Rev. Hal Truman Brown, 81, of 1186 Walker Circle, Asheboro, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church, with Dr. Ron Hamilton and the Rev. Henry Williams officiating. Burial will be in Neighbor's Grove Wesleyan Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a Wesleyan minister who pastored Victory Chapel Wesleyan Church, Snow Camp; Reynolds Memorial Wesleyan Church, Troy; Hoover's Grove Wesleyan Church, Jackson Creek; Whynot Wesleyan Church, Whynot; and others.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Pritchard Brown of the home; son, Dr. Noel Brown of Asheboro; sisters, Helen Shigley of Indiana, Mona Rose Allen of Georgia; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of the son, 1066 Ann's Court, Asheboro.

RANDLEMAN - Kenneth Floyd "Ben" Bennett, 50, of North Stout Street, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Sophia Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Bill V. Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park Cemetery, Asheboro.

He was a native of High Point, an employee of 25 years with Henredon Furniture Industries and the former owner of Ken's Snacks. He was a member of the choir and Sunday School at his church.

Surviving are wife, Janet Williamson Bennett; stepsons, Jim Akines and Josh Akines, both of the home; father and stepmother, Floyd and Cornelia Bennett of Thomasville; sisters, Linda Irene Fuller of Buford, Ga., Patsy Ridge of Archdale; stepsisters, Katrina Smith of Winston-Salem, Joanie Green of Clemmons, Sonya Trexler of Lexington.

The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, 6-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

He was a native of Montgomery County and a fixer with Candor Hosiery, Biscoe.

Surviving are wife, Sandy Smith Davis of the home; sons, Jerry Todd Davis of Biscoe, Jason Matthew Davis of Seagrove; brothers, Danny Davis of Gastonia, Tony Davis of Creedmoor; two grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Alice Lynn Presnell Hall, 64, 1020 Salmons Drive, Asheboro, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

She was a native of Randolph County and a former employee with Cross Road Retirement Center as a CNA II.

TRINITY - William Gale "Bill" Adkins, 53, of 2549 Hoover Hill Road, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at his home.

He was a native of Forsyth County and a self-employed carpenter.

She was a graduate of Asheboro High School and Guilford Technical Community College. She attended Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Winston-Salem, was employed by Hickory Printing, High Point, and had worked for several years with Proctor and Gamble.

Surviving are daughter, Kisha Williamson of the home; grandson, Maleek Williamson of the home; sister, Larice Canoy White of Pleasant Garden; brothers; Philip Burrows of Charlotte, Tim Canoy of Orlando, Fla.

The family will be at the funeral home 4-6 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of her sister, 2206 Wilson Mills Court, Pleasant Garden.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at South Fork Friends Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. J. Rodney Powell and the Rev. Winfred Crouse officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County and a retired dairy farmer. He was an elder, a trustee and a member of the finance committee at his church.

Surviving are wife, Grace Edwards Lindley of Snow Camp; daughters, Doris L. Cox of Ramseur, Hazel L. Moon, Betty L. Teague, both of Snow Camp; son, James Randall Lindley of Raleigh; sisters, Esther L. Wellons of Victoria, Va., Sarah L. Stroup of Lincolnton; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of J.W. Gordon Sr., a seamstress and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are son, John Wesley Gordon Jr. of Clemmons; sisters, Bertha Waisner and Eula Bare, both of Asheboro; three grandchildren.

CARTHAGE - Paul G. Thompson, 64, of 208 Old Glendon Road, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at his home.

He was a native of Chatham County, the widower of Martha Ann Siler Poole, a retired furniture employee and a member of First Baptist Church, Ramseur.

Surviving are wife, Dena Hayes Poole of Ramseur; daughter, Martha P. Ore of Staley; two grandchildren; one great-grandson.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Janice Pearn, 418 N. Main St., Staley.

Marvin W. Clodfelter
DENTON - Marvin Weldon Clodfelter, 81, of Snider Station Road, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Summerville Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Flynn Richardson and the Rev. Fred Miller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a trustee at his church and a retired auto mechanic from Hill Motor Company.

Surviving are wife, Nellie Floyd Clodfelter of the home; daughter, Judy Snider of Denton; sister, Lois Hayes of Thomasville; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Burty Allen Peeples, a retired spinner with Cone Mills Revolution Plant and was of the Baptist faith.

Peeples of Greensboro; daughters, Mamie Jo Lassiter of Hazel Green, Ala., Glenda Faye Fogleman of Sophia, Dorothy Curlee of Greensboro; sister, Helen Wilson of Asheboro; brother, Harland Bowman of Alta Vista, Va.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

He was a native of Surry County, the retired owner and operator of Marsh Grocery, and a farmer and cattleman.

She was a native of Surry County, a retired worker from Bossong Hosiery and a member of Fayetteville Street Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Adult Bible Class.

Surviving are daughter, Diane Lambert of Greensboro; sons, Don R. Smith of Beaufort, Bobby G. Smith of Contonement, Fla.; brother, Herbert Snow Jr. of Asheboro; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the cemetery following the graveside service.

She was the widow of Dennis W. Howard.
