SEAGROVE - Michael Lynn Williamson, 46, of 612 E. Chriscoe Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at his home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. George Auman officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County.

Surviving are son, Levi Williamson of Star; mother, Norma A. Williamson of Seagrove; brothers, Roy Williamson and Eugene Williamson, both of Seagrove; sisters, Michelle W. DeView and Della R. Williamson, both of Seagrove.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home Star, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Johnny F. Laughlin
LEXINGTON - Johnny Floyd Laughlin, 50, of 219 Avenue M, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Family Funeral Care, Archdale, with the Rev. Jeff Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Davidson County, a retired employee of Henredon Furniture Industries, a U.S. Army veteran and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are daughters, Martha L. Rich and Kathy Lee Lewis, both of Lexington, Betty Lynn Tate of High Point; sisters, Ruby Chapman of Seagrove, Susie Brown of High Point, Cindy Rumple of Thomasville; brothers, Glenn Laughlin of Trinity, Ray Laughlin of Asheboro, Clifton Laughlin of Staley; two stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

William J. Lewis
MT. GILEAD - William James Lewis, 58, of 272 C.C. Camp Road, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, with Elder Prince Purcell III officiating. Burial will be in St. Luke's Holiness Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County.

Surviving are sons, Edward Bowden and Tony Leake, both of Mt. Gilead; daughter, Paulette B. McGuine of Charlotte; mother, Eugenia L. Miller of the home; brother, Johnnie Miller of Goldsboro; sister, Janie M. Vinson of Mt. Gilead; six grandchildren.

The family will be at the home.

Adrian C. Hamilton
TROY - Adrian Chandler Hamilton, 35, of 136 Moore St., died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy.

He was a native of Cumberland County and a hosiery mill employee.

Surviving are mother, Brenda Simmons Crouch of Norman; stepfather, Henry Crouch Jr. of Norman; brothers, Charles Hamilton, William Crouch, Daniel Crouch, all of Norman; sisters, Ada H. Sullivan of Norman, Jennifer Perez of Mt. Gilead; grandmother, Pothiner Simmons of Troy.

The family will be at the funeral home, 2-3 p.m. Friday, prior to the service.

ASHEBORO - Mary Marie Hill Epps, 73, of 917 Arnold St., Asheboro, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Strieby United Church of Christ, where she was a member, with the Rev. Robert Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

Surviving is sister, Harriet G. Jackson of Springfield, Mass.

The family will be at C.C. Hodges Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8 p.m. Friday.

A. Edison Brown
RANDLEMAN - Alva Edison Brown, 99, formerly of 228 Church St., died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Kyle Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, the former owner of Brown's Cafe in Randleman, Mayor Pro-Tem on the City of Randleman Board of Aldermen and a past president of the Randleman Rotary Club.

Surviving are wife, Velva Trogdon Brown; son, George E. Brown of Franklinville; daughters, Ruth B. Rumley of Greensboro, Nancy B. Johnson of Taylors, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

H. Roland Walker
SOPHIA - Howard Roland Walker, 73, of 5191 Walker Mill Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Sophia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

A native of Randolph County and a Wheelwright for 20 years, he attended Sophia Baptist Church. He was a member of the Percheron Association, the N.C. Cattleman's Association, the board of directors of the Sophia Fire Department and a farmer.

Surviving are wife, Betty Moody Walker of the home; daughters, Sue E. Walker of Asheboro, Sandra W. King of Conway, S.C.; son, Monty R. Walker of Greensboro; sister, Audrey Nance of Cedar Falls; brothers, Ervin Walker of Climax, Gilbert Walker and Darrell Walker, both of Grays Chapel; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

FRANKLINVILLE - Otis Wilson Haithcock, 85, of 649 Pleasant Ridge Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Graveside service, with military honors, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Clearview Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired worker from Ramtex Inc. and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

Surviving are wife, Vera Scott Haithcock of the home; son, Jimmy W. Haithcock Jr. of Brimington, W.Va.; stepdaughters, Judy Allred of Franklinville, Linda Anderson of Fletcher; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Caren M. Moore
LIBERTY - Caren Lynn Maness Moore, 51, of 2502 Low Bridge Road, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday in Gilmore Memorial Park.

She was a native of Richland County, S.C., and an employee of Arrow International.

Surviving are husband, Marshall Moore of the home; sons, Steve Moore of Asheboro, Richard Moore of Archdale, Adam Thomas Moore of the home; mother, Virginia Maness of Archdale; brother, Stephen Maness of Pfafftown; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Gregory G. Rorie Sr.
CANDOR - Gregory Gerald Rorie Sr., 45, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Biscoe Community Center Auditorium, Biscoe, with the Rev. Johnnie Jones officiating. Burial will be in Dry Creek United Church of Christ Cemetery, Candor.

A native of Biscoe, he retired from the U.S. Army after 27 years.

Surviving are wife, Candace Armstrong Rorie; sons, Gregory Rorie Jr. and Jazz Rorie; mother and stepfather, Benjamin and Grace Thomas of Greensboro; father and stepmother, Lacy Rorie Sr. and Pearlie Mac Rorie of Asheboro; sisters, Jamie Sloan and Melinda Renee James, both of Greensboro; brothers, James Rorie and Lacy Rorie Jr., both of Greensboro; two grandchildren.

CREEDMOOR - Berta Moore Tatum, 82, of 2015 Pratt Circle, Franklinton, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at her home.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro, with the Rev. Eddie Mauldin officiating.

She was a native of Pender County, the widower of William Roger Tatum, a member of First Baptist Church in Asheboro and a retired homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Sandra T. Wince of Ft. Worth, Texas; son, William B. Tatum of Creedmoor; sisters, Elva M. Simpson of Roseboro, Pattie M. Capps of Wilmington; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Eakes Funeral Home, Creedmoor, 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Jimmy Lee Bassinger, 66, of 1302 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, formerly of Charlotte, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Cross Road Retirement Center, with the Rev. David Schwartz officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Monday at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

He was a native of Cabarrus County and a retired hairdresser at Southpark in Charlotte.

Surviving is sister, Doris Basinger of Jacksonville, Fla.

ASHEBORO - Pauline Hussey Lassiter, 95, of 400 Vision Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Oaklawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Kidd officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of George H. Lassiter, a homemaker and a member of Asheboro Friends Meeting.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday.

Edgar Moore
ASHEBORO - Edgar Moore, 91, of 634 Redding Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Central United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Barry Queen officiating. Entombment will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Moore County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a retired postal worker. He was a member of the Lloyd Bible Class at his church, a past president of VFW and a past American Legion member.

Surviving are wife, Mary McKenzie Moore; son, David Moore of Greensboro; one grandson.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Friday.

RAMSEUR - The Rev. Thomas James "Tom" Hill, 63, of 7540 Burgess Kivett Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Harmony Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ken Huggins and the Rev. Jimmy Hill officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, a U.S. Army veteran and owner and operator of Thomas J. Hill Furniture for 28 years. He was the founding pastor of Harmony Baptist Church, supply pastor for Level Cross Baptist Church and a pastor at Whites Memorial Baptist and Pleasant Grove Christian churches.

Surviving are wife, Jo Ann Bunting Hill of the home; son, Jimmy Hill of Staley; daughter, Tammy Hill of the home; brother, Leonard Hill of Julian; sisters, Shirley Ann Smith of Julian, Beatrice Raye of Greensboro; one granddaughter.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of his son, 2841 Andrews Road, Staley.

She was a native of Chatham County and a retired employee of A.J. Schnierson.

Surviving are daughter, Judy Mason of Siler City; son, James McSwain of Siler City; sisters, the Rev. Ceola Martin and Annie M. Headen, both of Siler City; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Farrar Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-8 p.m. Friday.

Lucille M. Yarbrough
LEXINGTON - Lucille Michael Yarbrough, 80, of Lexington Health Care, formerly of Moore Drive, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at Lexington Health Care.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington, with the Rev. Malcolm Brownlee officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Hoyle A. Yarbrough, a retired worker from Parkdale Mills and a member of Second Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are son, Fred Yarbrough of Asheboro; sisters, Westley Murphy and Evelyn Trogdon, both of Lexington; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Saturday.

NORFOLK, Va. - Shelia Merritt Jeffery, 47, of 6116 Granby St., died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at her home.

She was a native of Asheboro, a 1973 honors graduate of Asheboro High School and attended Appalachian State University.

Surviving are husband, Gregory Scott Jeffery of the home; sons, Benjamin Scott Jeffery and Tyler Scott Jeffery, both of the home; stepson, Ryan Scott Jeffery of Norfolk, Va.; parents, Roy and Dorothy Merritt of Asheboro; sisters, Sherry Caviness of Ramseur, Sharon Spivey of Asheboro; brother, Harold Merritt of Wilmington.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of her parents, 1949 Brook Drive, Asheboro.
