SILER CITY - Jennie Leola Dunn, 74, of 1131 N. Church St., Greensboro, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Extended Care Center, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. Vernon Williams officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Bear Creek.

Surviving are sisters, Elsie Dunn Jones of Climax, Rachel Siler of Fort Meade, Fla., Blondie Anderson of Franklinville, Christine Head of Vass; brothers, H.G. Dunn of Pleasant Garden, Chester Dunn of Carthage.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Clarice F. McDowell-Nelson

DENTON - Clarice Farlow McDowell-Nelson, 79, of 2674 Gallimore Dairy Road, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Union United Church of Christ, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gary Phaup, the Rev. Charles Stout and the Rev. Garland McDowell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of first husband, Dallas L. McDowell, attended Mt. Olive Wesleyan Church and worked in the cafeteria at Farmer School.

Surviving are husband, Wayne L. Nelson of the home; daughter, Inez Welborn of Asheboro; sons, Clinton McDowell of Oxford, Trellis "Ted" McDowell of Archdale, Lauren McDowell of Asheboro, Milton Gregory McDowell of Denton; sisters, Virgie Coltrane, Clata Hardin, Earlene Taylor, all of Sophia, Wilma Cooke, Paulene Allred, both of Asheboro; brother, Raeford Farlow of Sophia; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Loretta B. Britt

TROY - Loretta Blake Britt, 63, of 1182 Lovejoy Road, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Lovejoy United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jack Page officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County and retired from Montgomery Federal Savings and Loan, Troy.

Surviving are husband, Howard Britt of the home; daughters, Angie Britt of High Point, Donna Brown of Eagle Springs, Kerma Taylor of Troy; sisters, Joyce Maness, Jean Staley, both of Troy; brother, Don Blake of Troy; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

TROY - Weston E. Wade of 229 S. Lineberry St., died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at her home.

Macel M. Hussey

ROBBINS - Macel Key Maness Hussey, 80, of 5135 N.C. 705, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Wesleyan Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Wilson Harris and the Rev. Bob Bundy officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, a retired nursing aid at Moore Regional Hospital after 25 years and was a Moore County 4-H leader for 30 years.

Surviving are daughter, Linda Maness Garner of Robbins; brothers, Noah Key of Robbins, Graham Key of Greensboro; sisters, Lucille Nall of Greensboro, Jewel Brewer of Star; two grandchildren; one great-grandson.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Manford Keeling
Manford Nova Keeling, 71, of 1295 Southmont Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. A. J. Kendrick officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and retired from Merchant Marines.

Surviving are sisters, Ruth Smith of Charlotte, Ruby Robbins of Trinity; brother, Carlise Keeling of High Point.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8 p.m. Friday.

Tommy H. Hobson

Thomas Howard Hobson, 59, of 226 Uwharrie St., Asheboro, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.

Vella M. Capel

Vella Mae Capel, 81, formally of 346 Watkins St., Asheboro, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at Clapp's Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Anthony Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Candor.

She was a native of Asheboro.

Surviving are sister, Margaret Bostic of Asheboro; brother, Berlin Brown of Asheboro.

The family will be at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

C.C. Hodges Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

RANDLEMAN - Tommy Wall, 79 of Archdale, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Pauline C. Willard

HIGH POINT - Pauline Clinard Willard, 98, of 201 V.V. Willard Road, died Thursday, June 18, 1998.

Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point, with Elder Roy Spiers officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Clemmons, the widow of Virgil Victor Willard, attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and was a member of High Point Primitive Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, C. Grayson Willard of Greensboro; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

TROY - Weston Earl Wade, 73, of 229 S. Lineberry St., died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Chuck Cook officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery.

He was a native of Carteret County, a World War II and Korean Conflict U.S. Marine Corps veteran, a retired federal employee and retired Magistrate of Montgomery County and a member of Troy Masonic Lodge No. 716.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Britt Wade of the home; daughter, Mary Wade Maness of Troy; stepson, James H. Young of Johnson City, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Lydia Y. Sides of Mt. Gilead; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Edward L. Stoddard Sr.

TROY - Edward Lee Stoddard Sr., 66, of 104 Forest Drive, died Thursday, June 18, 1998.

There will be a private viewing for family members only.

He was retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years and had received various military honors including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Surviving are Elizabeth Harkins of Troy; sons, Edward L. Stoddard Jr. of Opelika, Ala., Jamie Stoddard of Auburn, Ala.; daughters, Collie McGinty of Nashville, Tenn., Susan Doster of Opelika, Ala.; sister, Louise Dickens of High Point; six grandchildren.

The family will be at the home after 12 p.m. Saturday.

Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, is in charge of the arrangements.

Phil Morgan

ROBBINS - John Phillip Morgan, 53, of 2153 Spies Road, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Briggs Candor Funeral Home, Candor, with the Rev. Earl Ward officiating.

He was a native of Oak Ridge, Tenn., a Vietnam War U.S. Army veteran, attended First Assembly in Asheboro and was employed with P & H Services in Greensboro.

Surviving are wife, Pamela Morgan Morgan; son, Phillip Drew Morgan of the home; daughters, Marca Gail Morgan Miller of Salisbury, Melissa Sue Morgan of Greensboro; parents, Ellie Astor and Bessie Maude Allen Morgan of Eagle Springs; brothers, Alan Kent "Butch" Morgan, Rodney Lee Morgan, both of Eagle Springs; sister, Tobbie Kay Morgan Emmons of High Point; one granddaughter.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of the parents, 15368 N.C. 24/27, Eagle Springs.

Tommy H. Hobson
Thomas Howard "Tommy" Hobson, 59, of 226 Uwharrie St., Asheboro, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Balfour Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Ed Houck officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was employed with Galey and Lord.

Surviving are wife, Mary P. Hobson; daughters, Mary Ann Lineberry of Asheboro, Mamie Fogleman of Randleman; sons, Thomas Earl Hobson of Troy, Phillip Hobson of Asheboro; sisters, Mary Ward of Raeford, Inez Speight of Bennett; brothers, Haywood Hobson of Red Springs, James Robert Hobson of Fayetteville; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Tommy Wall

RANDLEMAN - Tommy Wall, 79, of Archdale, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

A graveside service was 2 p.m. Saturday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jay Hobbs officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and retired from Julian Tile Co.

Surviving are sisters, Lucy Bishop of Greensboro, Kathleen Brothers of Julian; cousin and former caretaker, Bertha Marsh, with whom he had lived.

Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, was in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Bertie L. Gaster

ELON COLLEGE - Bertie Lowe Gaster, 83, of 3208 Osceola Road, died Friday, June 19, 1998, at Duke Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Monday at Alamance Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bland Leebrick officiating.

She was a native of Wilkes County, the widow of Archie Pearlie Gaster, retired owner and operator of Hub Beauty Shop in the Altamahaw Ossippee Community for 59 years and was a member of Moravian Falls Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Minnie Gordon Gaster of the home; son, Archie Dillon Gaster of Greenville.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home, Burlington, 6-8 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Fred H. Swing

WINSTON-SALEM - Fred Hedrick Swing, 77, died Friday, June 19, 1998, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Forsyth Memorial Park. A memorial service will be noon Monday at Highland Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Steve McCutchan officiating.

He was a native of Davidson County, retired district manager with McKinney Drilling for over 25 years and a Foundation Fellow of the Civitan International Research Center.

Surviving are wife, Gladys Little Swing of the home; daughter, Susan Hatfield of Winston-Salem; son, Jim Swing of Winston-Salem; sister, Agnes R. Swing of Asheboro; brother, Richard Swing of High Point; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the church following the memorial service.

She was the director of Lifelong Education at Barton College, Wilson.

Surviving are husband, Steven J. Williams; son, Ben Williams of the home; parents, Sylvan and Marjorie King Routh of Franklinville; brothers, Bill Routh of Winston-Salem, Dan Routh of Franklinville.

Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Service, Wilson, was in charge of the arrangements.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and a charter member of Green Thumb Garden Club.
