HILLSBOROUGH - Josephine Linnie Corbett Smith, 85, formerly of Asheboro, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at Brookshire Nursing Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakhurst Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Roy A. Smith and a retiree from B.B. Walker Shoes.

Surviving are son, Roland Smith of Chapel Hill; sister, Julia Allen of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8:30 Friday.

Braxton Holmes
TRINITY - Braxton Holmes, 83, formerly of 5529 Blueberry Court, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Trinity where he was a member, with the Rev. James Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Doris Strickland Holmes, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retiree from Hewlett Packard Co.

Surviving are sisters, Mattie Johnson and Anna Knight, both of Trinity; brother, Coy Holmes of Trinity; one grandson.

The family will be at the church Saturday at 10:30 a.m., other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. John Brown, 5595 Rockford Drive, Trinity. Public viewing will be at Haizlip Funeral Home, High Point, Friday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

Annie L. Brady
TROY - Annie Belle Lemonds Brady, 86, formerly of 102-E Wesleyan St., died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at the home of her daughter, Shirley Kern of Leland.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia Presbyterian Church, Biscoe, with the Rev. Harry Harward officiating.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of George Brady, a member of Troy Church of God, a former employee of Smitherman Cotton Mill and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Frank Brady, Johnny Brady and Bill Brady, all of Troy; daughters, Glennie Brady of Albemarle, Shirley B. Kern of Leland; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Johnny Brady, 339 Northwood Road, Troy.

Phil Strider
ASHEBORO - Phillip Eugene "Phil" Strider, 55, of 405 Greenlawn Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jonathan Shook and Paul Thomas officiating.

He was a native of Asheboro and formerly employed as a truck driver for Myrick Construction.

Surviving is wife, Judy Simmons Strider.

Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Charles E. Weiss Sr.
RANDLEMAN - Charles Edward Weiss Sr., 55, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hanes-Lineberry, Vanstory Chapel, Greensboro. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Bluefield, W. Va., worked in the ironworking industry, was the owner of W-3 Decking and of the Holiness faith.

Surviving are wife, Juanita Fay Weiss; sons, Charles Edward Weiss Jr. of New London, Charles Barrett Weiss of Randleman; daughter, Carol Annette Davis of Randleman; sisters, Nancy Dorsett of Troy, Caretta Weiss of New London; brothers, Leon Weiss of Randleman, Mark Weiss of New London; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the building fund of Sunrise Church of God, 116 Sunrise Ave., Asheboro, N.C.

Vada Rogers
DENTON - Vada Garner Rogers, 95, of Mountain Vista Health Park, formerly of Jim Rogers Road, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Summerville Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Flynn Richardson and the Rev. Mike Motley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Jim Rogers, a homemaker and a member of the WMU at her church.

Surviving are three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6-8 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of a grandson, Kenneth Rogers, 875 Bringle Ferry Road, Denton.

ASHEBORO - Richard D. Maynard Sr., 63, of 2085 Staleys Farm Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at his home.

He was a native of New York and employed with Prestige Fabricators in the maintenance department.

Surviving are wife, Mary Belle Maynard, of the home; sons, Richard D. Maynard Jr., Gary D. Maynard, John W. Maynard, David C. Maynard, Clarence T. Maynard, all of Asheboro, and Melton W. Maynard of Archdale; sister, Margarie Dailey of Tucson, Ariz.; mother-in-law, Mildred Tanner, of the home; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Richmond County, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, the former owner and operator of Ideal Used Cars and was of the Seventh-Day Adventist faith.

Surviving are wife, Frances Seabolt of the home; son, Richard Seabolt of Asheboro; sisters, Louise Snyder of Denton, Hazel Frye, Mildred Cromer and Doris Hoover, all of Asheboro; brothers, Clarence Seabolt and Reid Seabolt, both of Asheboro; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

TRINITY - Devin Lee Calhoun, 6 weeks old, of 964 Loflin Hill Road, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Randolph Memorial Park.

Surviving are parents, William "Bo" Calhoun and Jennifer Roberts of Trinity; brother, DeShawn Calhoun of Trinity; grandparents, Lynn Calhoun, Sergio Vazquez, both of Asheboro, Manuel and Cynthia Roberts of Franklinville; great-grandparents, Millard Allred of Cedar Falls, Leonard and Evelyn Roberts of Asheboro; great-great-grandmother, Thelma Haddock of Asheboro.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8:30 Monday, other times at the home of his grandparents, Manuel and Cynthia Roberts, 144 Holly St., Franklinville.

Alice R. Smith
MT. GILEAD - Alice Robinson Smith, 84, of 963 Apple Orchard Road, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Stoney Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Madaris and Jimmy Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Clarence Odell "O.D." Smith, and a homemaker.

Surviving are brother, George Robinson of Mt. Gilead; two grandsons; two great-grandsons.

The family will be at the church at 1 p.m. Monday before the service.

BLADENBORO - Charles Hazel Crabtree, 86, of 8301 N.C. 41 West, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, in Bladen County Hospital

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Asbury United Methodist Church cemetery near Sanford, with the Rev. David Foushee officiating.

He was a native of Moore County, the widower of Frances Brown Crabtree, a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, and was retired from Bryant Electric Co. in Durham.

Surviving are sons, Charles H. Crabtree Jr., Ray M. Crabtree and James L. Crabtree; sister, Ruby C. Maness of Carthage; brothers, Clarence Crabtree, Curtis Crabtree, both of Carthage, and Carlton Crabtree of Elkhart, Ind.; seven grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Ruby Maness, 455 Mt. Carmel Road, Carthage.

ASHEBORO - David Eugene "Pop" Brady, 70, of 1452 Hasty Street, Asheboro, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at Evergreens Senior Health Care, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with the Rev. David Reid and the Rev. Todd Brown officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.

He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a retired business manager.

Surviving are foster son; John Antill of the home, sisters, Lois Brady of Ramseur, Martha B. Smith of Siler City, June B. Branson and Phyllis B. Leonard, both of Asheboro; brothers, W. Glenn Brady of Randleman, Wiley C. Brady of Ramseur; five foster grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Surviving are wife, Sally Littleton of the home; sons, Robert Allen Littleton Jr. of Greensboro, Bryan Littleton of Pascagoula, Miss.; one granddaughter.

She was a native of Davidson County, retired from Hanes Knitwear in Winston-Salem and of the Christian faith.

Surviving are sister, Leah Cody Francis of Lexington; one nephew.

Raymond A. Ingold
MT. GILEAD - Raymond Arthur Ingold, 87, of 436 Ingold Road, died Sunday, Oct., 6, 2002, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hamer Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Alex Willoughby and the Rev. Dan Abernathy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a graduate of Shuford's Barber School, retired owner and operator of Ingold's Barber Shop, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, Blackmer Lodge #127, 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Oasis Shrine, American Legion and the VFW.

Surviving are wife Ruby Dutton Ingold of the home.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Macedonia Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J.J. Manning and the Rev. Ann Beach officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Gretna, Va., a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran, retired from Blythe Brothers Construction Co. in Charlotte, the former owner of S & M Hardware in Jacksonville, N.C., an elder in the Presbyterian church, and a former member of Kiwanis Club and the Rockingham Lions Club.

Surviving are wife, Lucy McCaskill Shelton of Gainesville, Ga., brother, Carl Ramsey Shelton of High Point.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6:30-8:30 Monday.

ASHEBORO - lnez Rachal Pope, 86, of 1306 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

She was a native of Nachitoches Parish, La.

Surviving are husband, Bewford Pope of the home; daughters, Jo Pruter and Donna Davenport, both of Burnet, Texas, Pat Beaman of Jamestown, Caryn Pope of Houston, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 2-4 p.m. and also 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
