ORLANDO, Fla. - Bertie L. Auman Sr., 80, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002.
Funeral service was noon Oct. 2 at Eastside Baptist Church, where he was a charter member. Burial was in Conway United Methodist Church Cemetery.
He was a native of Seagrove, the widower of Wilma G. Auman and a retired land surveyor and civil engineer. He founded Auman & West Associates of Orlando and Apopka, Fla., was a deacon at his church and served as City Engineer and Public Works Director for the city of Winter Park, Fla.
Surviving are daughters, Elaine Thompson of Salt Springs, Fla., Jama Herrera of Orlando, Fla.; sons, Bertie L. "Sonny" Auman, Jr., Steven G. Auman of Orlando, Fla., John M. Auman of Sanford, Fla.; sisters, Gaynella Overman and Betsy Kinney, both of North Carolina; brother, Colon Auman of North Carolina; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

MARION, Va. - Albert Linwood James, 46, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at his home in Robbins.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Slemp Cemetery, Sugar Grove, Va., with Pastor Bobby Baker officiating.

ASHEBORO - Harold Lee Cox, 73, of 156 E. Academy St., Apt. 112, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at Kindred Hospital, Greensboro.
Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Friday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Joseph Farlow Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
He was a native of Randolph County, a former employee of McRae Roofing and a past district governor of the Lions Club. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are sons, Anthony W. Cox of Asheboro, Eddie Cox of Kernersville; three grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - John Lewis Van Opstal, 76, of 441 Newbern Ave., Asheboro, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Jean Nall officiating. Graveside service will 3 p.m. in Dobson Cemetery, Dobson, with military honors.
He was a native of Lake Worth, Fla., a U.S. Army and a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He was retired from the Air Force. He worked at Roses and Barker Furniture in Asheboro, was of the Episcopalian faith and attended Open Arms Church of God and Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving are wife, Ernestine C. Van Opstal of the home; daughters, Diana Perry of Jacksonville, Fla., Sandra Dieckman of Denver, Fay Bowden of Palactka, Fla.; son, David Van Opstal of Jacksonville, Fla.; stepdaughters, Lucy Lee Felts of Cana, Va., Nancy Merrill, Becky Conard, both of Asheboro; stepson, Jerry Barker of Asheboro; sisters, Jeanette Taylor of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Gladys Gougeon of Lantana, Fla.; three granddaughters; two great-grandsons.

She was a native of Lubbock County, Texas, an assistant town clerk with the Town of Denton and a member of the Ladies Fellowship at her church. She assisted with the Farmer Baptist Prison Ministry.

Coon Hunters Association, the United Kennel Club, Inc., the Bluetick Breeders of America, Richland Creek Hunt Club, and the Rocky Creek Hunt Club and a first place winner in the N.C. Coon Hunters Association State Nite Hunt Championship.
