Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Howard Moffitt officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
A native of Randolph County, he had worked at United Brass Works Inc. and the N.C. Zoo.
Surviving are wife, Cathy Lewis of the home; daughter, Kimberly Crowder of Farmer; sons, Thomas Kent Lewis of Kernersville, Jason Lee Lewis of Asheboro; sisters, Louise Garner of Asheboro, Deloris Lassiter of Troy; brother, James Lewis of Asheboro; four grandchildren.

He was a native of Camden County, N.J., and the owner and operator of a home improvement business.

FRANKLINVILLE - Vera Hinson Maness, 85, of 130 E. Bend St., died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at her home.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Franklinville, where she was a member, with the Rev. Steven Cox officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Guilford County, a retired worker from Stedman Manufacturing Co. and a Sunday School teacher at her church.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Landmark Baptist Church, Asheboro, with the Rev. Dan Shore, the Rev. Frank Barrett and the Rev. Grayson Floyd officiating. Burial will be in Gravel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Coy Walker officiating.
He was a native of Iredell County, a minister and a former employee with Black and Decker. He was a member of Calvary Gospel Church, a pastor at Community Baptist Church in Seagrove and attended Landmark Baptist Church, Asheboro.
Surviving are son, Senior Airman Rodney Walker of Fort Meade, Md.; father, the Rev. Coy Walker of Catawba; stepmother, Cleda Walker of Catawba; stepbrother, John Wayne Brown Jr. of Taylorsville; sisters, Brenda Mosley of Denton, Lynn Walker and Angela Elder, both of Taylorsville; fianceé, Cathy Pierce of Asheboro.

He was a native of Chatham County and an employee of Carolina Stockyards in Siler City.
Surviving are sister, Pearl B. McIntosh of Siler City; brothers, William Brooks of Asheboro, Harvey Brooks of Virginia, Robert Brooks of Norfolk, Va., Larry Brooks of Honolulu, Hawaii.

He was a native of Chatham County, a deacon, Sunday School teacher, treasurer and choir member at his church and a retired worker of the U.S. Postal Service.

STATESVILLE - Eleanor May Johnson Hartley, 99, of 521 Holland Drive, formerly of Sophia, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at her home.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Marlboro Friends Meeting Cemetery, with the Rev. Bob Medford, the Rev. John Sides and the Rev. Bill Barnes officiating.
She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Franc Garrett Hartley, a member of Marlboro Friends Meeting, a member of the Asheboro Genealogy Society, a member of the Randolph County Historical Society and an alumnus of Guilford College. She had attended Brevard College and Furman University.
Surviving are sons; Spencer Jack Hartley of Sophia, Charles Bryce Hartley Sr. of Statesville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Ramseur, a former deacon and choir member at his church and the former director of Extension Ministries to Peery Correctional Institute and the Greenville Rescue Mission. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, a graduate of the Institute of Christian Services of Bob Jones University, a former employee of Bob Jones University and a printer at Barfield Graphics.
Surviving are wife, Carolyn Moffitt Cox; daughters, Amy R. Cox of Greenville, S.C., Bethany C. Webb of Greer, S.C.; brother, Lloyd Cox of Ramseur; sisters, Doris York, Marie Gee, Betty Glass, all of Siler City, Wanda Nance of Randleman, Martha Teague of Ramseur; one granddaughter.

She was a native of Moore County, a retired town clerk for the town of Carthage, a former member of the Rotary Club, a Methodist lay speaker and a volunteer for Carthage Elementary School and FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
Surviving are son, Billy Ray Deese Jr. of Sanford; three grand-children; one great-grandson.

DENTON - C. Armon Hunt, 85, of South Main Street, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Brian Center, Lexington.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Central United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Joe Collins and the Rev. Glenn Everette officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorials Gardens.
He was a past president of the Denton Lions Club for over 50 years and a life member of the N.C. Lions Foundation. He was named a Jack Stickley Fellow by the N.C. Lions. A lifetime farmer and a rural mail carrier, he also served Davidson County as one of the eight original deputy sheriffs under the late Sheriff Homer Lee Cox and worked as an insurance agent for Mutual of Omaha.
Surviving are sons, David A. Hunt of Mocksville, Charlie A. Hunt Jr. of Spruce Pines, Paul A. Hunt of Haw River; daughter, Genie Trickie of Denton; sister, Virgie Rowland of Crossville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
