WEST END - Robert M. Jackson, 69, of Carthage Road, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a retired employee of J.P. Stevens in Aberdeen.

Surviving are wife, Joan Lowery Jackson; sons, Leslie Jackson of Pinehurst, Wayne D. Lowery, Daniel L. Lowery, Frank Lowery, all of West End; sister, Margaret J. Wiggins of West End; brother, John Jackson of Sanford; seven grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Lassie L. Scott Sr.

CARTHAGE - Lassie Lucian Scott Sr., 75, of 1241 Union Church Road, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at his home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Stuart Gordon officiating.

He was a native of Surry County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a farmer and retired after 35 years with The Roberts Company in Sanford.

Surviving are wife, Margaret Hardy Scott; daughter, Ann Lynch of Carthage; sons, L.L. "Scottie" Scott Jr. of Carthage, H.R. "Randy" Scott of Waxhaw, John N. Scott of Los Angeles, Calif., James E. Scott of Raleigh; sisters, Doris S. Nardo of West End, Sally S. Vignola of Pinehurst, Virginia S. Adams of Greenville, S.C.; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at the home.

Fry-Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, is in charge of the arrangements.

BENNETT - Pauline Brown Chriscoe, 60, of 3151 Trinity Church Road, Seagrove, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at her home.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired employee of Luck's Inc., Seagrove.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Barry Wall officiating. Burial will be in Center Cross Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, retired from Acme McCrary and was a member of Amity Hills Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Betty Jean Harrison Edwards, Joan Ann Harrison Moran, both of Asheboro; son, Joseph Eugene Harrison of Lexington; sisters, Mary Belle Saunders of Troy, Rose Elizabeth Riddle of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother, Lester Singleton of Arizona; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Earl Ernest Whitaker, 84, of 210 Golda Ave., Asheboro, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Darrell Scruggs, the Rev. Gene Schenck and the Rev. Paul Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Marlboro Friends Meeting Cemetery.

He was retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation, was a member of Neighbor's Grove Wesleyan Church Sunday School and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Yow Whitaker of Asheboro; son, Tony Whitaker of Asheboro; brothers, Nelson Whitaker, Thurman Whitaker, both of Asheboro, Odell Whitaker of Randleman; sisters, Myrtle Nance of Franklinville, Bertha Kirkman of Asheboro; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

She was a native of Roxboro, a graduate of Greensboro College and did missionary work in Brazil.

Surviving are husband, Paul D. Trollinger of Asheboro; daughter, Laura T. Holland of Asheboro; sons, Mark B. Trollinger, George T. Trollinger, both of Asheboro; brother, John D. Bradsher Jr. of Blowing Rock; five grandchildren.

Leon Burrow

SOPHIA - Leon Burrow, 69, of 3823 Mt. Gilead Church Road, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Archdale United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Jeff S. Patterson and the Rev. Harold Shives officiating. Burial will be in Flint Hill United Church of Christ Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired employee of Dar Ran Furniture and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Friendship Sunday School class, United Methodist Men and a former member of the administrative board and the choir at his church. He was a member of Archdale-Trinity Lions Club, Disabled American Veterans and was a Purple Heart recipient.

Surviving are wife, Nancy Farlow Burrow of the home; daughter, LuAnn Spain of Raleigh; son, Jeffrey Burrow of Sophia; mother, Ila B. Skeen of Trinity; brothers, Harrison Burrow, Olen Burrow, both of Archdale, Leon Skeen of Lexington; sisters, Ann Burton of Randleman, Jean S. Seward of Pensacola, Fla.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Cumby Funeral Home, Archdale, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Helen E. Hurlocker

TRINITY - Helen Irene Earnhardt Hurlocker, 86, of 4556 Kennedy Road, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cumby Funeral Home, Archdale, with the Rev. Randy Quate and the Rev. Ron Hurlocker officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Charlie Albert Hurlocker, a former employee of Community General Hospital and was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are son, Ronald Charles Hurlocker of High Point; daughters, Doris Hill of Sophia, Brenda Moore of Trinity; brothers, Raymond Earnhardt, I.C. Earnhardt Jr., both of Trinity, Lawrence Earnhardt of Asheboro, Clifford Earnhardt of Galax, Va.; sisters, Clara Routh of Randleman, Mozelle Rich of Asheboro; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Brenda Monroe, 5555 Windemere Circle, Trinity.

BELLE GLADE, Fla. - Elliott Ross "Skipper" Bowles, 51, died Monday, June 22, 1998, in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Belle Glade, Fla., where he was a member, with the Rev. Mack Douglas officiating. Burial will be in Port Mayaca Cemetery.

He was a native of Bennettsville, S.C., and a former member of the Lions Club and the American Legion.

Surviving are wife, Debra Bowles of the home; daughters, Yvonne B. Stein, Vicki L. Carter, Gretchen L. Bowles, all of Belle Glade, Fla.; mother, Dothula Williams Bowles of Mt. Gilead; sister, Lisa B. Kelly of Mt. Gilead; half brothers, Harry H. Bowles of Mt. Gilead, Jerry Ashford of Seattle, Wash.; six grandchildren.

CRESTVIEW, Fla. - Hazel M. Stevens, 82, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, in a local hospital.

A service of remembrance was 2 p.m. Saturday at McLaughlin-Aultman Funeral Home, Crestview, Fla., with the Rev. David Van Zandt officiating.

She was a native of Franklinville, the widow of Pete Stevens and a member of Dorcas Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Searl S. Stevens Jr. of Rainier, Ore.; daughter, Nancy Jo Perry of Crestview, Fla.; sisters, Catherine Evans, Carene Cagle, both of Asheboro; four grandchildren; one great-grandson.

Ethel W. Goldston

James F. Conley

James Francis Conley, 76, of 114 Tremont Drive, Asheboro, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where he was a member, with Father Joseph Mack officiating. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park, Greensboro. A rosary service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.

He was a native of Jersey City, N.J., a World War II Coast Guard veteran and a retired employee of Model Linen Service.

Surviving are wife, Antoinette Gianfala Conley of Asheboro; daughters, Margaret Brown of Asheboro, Francine Litter of Bel Air, Md.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Guilford County, retired from Ramtex in Ramseur and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are wife, Betty Black Peele of the home; daughter, Sherry Rouse of the home; sister, Pearlie Rives of Asheboro; brothers, James Peele, Claudie Peele, both of Asheboro.

Lou Ella B. Langley

RAMSEUR - Lou Ella Bray Langley, 97, of 9580 U.S. 64 East, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at Chatham Hospital, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Staley Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Don Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and owner and operator of Langley Grocery.

Surviving are son, J.V. Langley Jr. of Staley; daughter, Louise Wilson of Ramseur; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of the daughter, 170 Parks Cross Road Church Road, Ramseur.
