BEAR CREEK - Ethel Roberson Elkins, 81, of 2308 Bear Creek Church Road, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at her home.
Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bear Creek Baptist Church, where she attended, with the Rev. Bob Wachs and the Rev. Gyles Saunders officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Montgomery County and a retired worker from Hadley-Peoples Manufacturing.
Surviving are husband, Fred Elkins of Bear Creek; sons, Carl Godwin of the home, George Godwin of High Point, Jackie Elkins of Coleridge; daughter, Faye Gaines of Siler City; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.

He was a native of Long Island, N.Y., a World War II U.S. Army AirForce veteran and a retired worker from Air Products, Inc.
Surviving are daughter, Barbara Dowdy of Bear Creek; sons, Danny Bergen of Jupiter, Fla., Kenneth Bergen and Robert Bergen, both of Chatham, Mass.; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren.

She was a native of Moore County and a former employee with J.P. Stevens as a sales clerk.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired employee of Thalhiemer's.

She was a native of Randolph County and an employee of Elastex.

He was a native of El Paso, Texas, a retired U.S. Army veteran of World War II and Vietnam and also a retired worker from the U.S. Postal Service.
Surviving are wife, Sarah Elizabeth Weaver-Arenivas; son, Jesus Arenivas Jr. of Irving, Texas; daughters, Augustina Maria Luther of Asheboro, Alicia Faye Arenivas of Greensboro; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a brother of El Paso, Texas; two sisters of El Paso, Texas, one sister of Los Angeles, Calif.

He was a native of Randolph County and a former security guard with Eveready Battery.

ASHEBORO - Frank Raymond Maroney Sr., 81, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at his home.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where he was a member, with Father Joseph W. Mack officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery with military honors.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a member of VFW Post 2083, and a Union member of the AFL-CIO in East Hartford, Conn. He retired from Pratt and Whitney of East Hartford after 38 years as a machinist.
Surviving are wife, Isabelle E. Maroney; son, Frank "Ray" Maroney Jr.; two grandchildren.

He was a native of Randolph County and a retired employee of the shipping department at ABB.

Matthews of Franklinville; father, James Matthews Sr. of Franklinville; daughters, Toni Marie Matthews of Franklin-ville, Pamula Matthews of Wilmington, Del.; brothers, Randy L. Matthews of Ramseur, James T. Matthews, Waldo Matthews and David Matthews, all of Franklinville; two grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Mike Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery.
He was a native of Craven County, a former employee with the Montgomery County Department of Social Services and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Surviving are mother, Ruth Britt Wade of Troy; sister, Lydia Sides of Mt. Gilead; stepsister, Mary Wade Maness of Troy.
The family will be at the home of his mother, 229 Lineberry St., Troy.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of George Wallace Coggin, a member of Star United Methodist Church, Women's Circle # 1, Star Halcyon Woman's Club and a homemaker.
Surviving are daughter, Phyllis Chappell of Barnwell, S.C.; son, George W. Coggin of Greensboro; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Durham County, a retired produce manager for Lowes Food Store in Robbins and a cattle farmer.

THOMASVILLE - Larry Alexander Palmer, 61, of 3888 Old N.C. 29, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at Thomasville Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Central Wesleyan Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Glenn E. Hawkins and the Rev. Wayne Knight officiating. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
He was a native of Davidson County, a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and on various committees at his church. He was a former employee of the Davidson County EMS and employed with Thomasville GM Superstore. He was a former member and past president of the Pilot Lions Club, a current member and past president of the Hasty Lions Club, and served as Zone Chair for the Lions Council, on the White Cane Drive and as the Eye Will Chairman for Lions International.
Surviving are wife, Betty Hollifield Palmer of the home; daughters, Cindy Roberson, Kris Daniels, both of Lexington; son, Tim Alexander Palmer of Seagrove; brothers, Ronnie Palmer of Thomasville, Richard Palmer of Kernersville; three grandchildren.
