Funeral service will be held at a later date in Utica, N.Y.
Surviving are mother, Nicole Ching Caracane of Asheboro; father, Thomas Caracane of Little Falls, N.Y.; grandparents, Therese and Peter Ching of Asheboro; great-grandparents, Donald and Patricia Ching of Asheboro.
The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. A prayer service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday with Father Joseph Mack officiating.
Betty M. Goss
RANDLEMAN - Betty L. McCain Goss, 70, of 4111 U.S. 311, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Harshaw Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Randolph County and a graduate of Randolph Community College. In 1988 she was honored by former Governor James G. Martin at the fall conference of the N.C. Employment Training Association, Inc. She was last employed at Meadowbrook Manor Nursing Home as a nursing assistant.
Surviving are sons, Timothy Goss of Alexandria, Va., James D. Goss Jr., Jerome Goss and Kacy Goss, all of Randleman; daughters, Valerie Spencer of Virginia and Theresa Goss of Randleman, brother, Worth McCain of Randleman, sisters, Bertha Goss and Mary Alice Baldwin, all of Asheboro, four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the church Wednesday at 2:30, other times at the home.

ARCHDALE - Leia Danielle Lem, 17, of Lancer Drive, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Archdale Friends Meeting House with the Rev. Scott Wagoner officiating. Burial will be in Deep River Friends Meeting Cemetery.
She was a native of High Point and a member of Deep River Friends Meeting. She was a senior at Trinity High School where she was Treasurer of her class and the 2002 Homecoming Queen. She was also a member of the Varsity Cheerleading Squad, the Beta Club, the Juniorettes and was a volunteer peer helper for exceptional children. She was employed with Jim-Nastics Academy and was also a lifeguard at Kynwood Pool.
Surviving are her parents David and Sharon Porter Lem; sisters, Janelle Lem and Ashley Lem of the home; grandparents, Ruby Lem of Carolina Beach, Nancy Voncannon of Trinity, Hoover Porter of Jacksonville, Fla.
The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

SEAGROVE - Paul Lee Garner, 84, of 939 Upper Road, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at his home.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Union Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Grady Blakely officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Moore County and a retired weaver with Springs Industries.
Surviving are wife, Myrtle Kennedy Garner of the home; sons, Jerry and Larry Garner, both of Seagrove; daughters, Brenda Maness of Seagrove and Vickie Britt of Hickory; sister, Mary Kennedy of Seagrove; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild.

HIGH POINT - James Donald Cress Sr., 57, of 126 Penny Road, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point, with the Rev. Melvin Anderson officiating. A second funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Benson Chapel Church, Rowland. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Norton, Va., the widower of Ruby Moore Cress, owner and operator of James Cress Water Pump Co., and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving are daughter, Christi Lynn Wolford; stepdaughters Irena Fulp and Tina Fulp, both of Washington, D.C.; sons, Jason Cress of High Point, James Cress Jr. of Sophia; sister, Joan Spurlock of Indianapolis, Ind.; brothers, Raymond Cress of Randleman, Ralph Cress of Glenola, seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

TROY - Leonard L. Greene, 82, of 717 Dairy Road, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Grady Blakely and the Rev. Arlen Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Montgomery County, a graduate of High Point University and of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he received a Masters and retired from Manhattan Beach High School after 35 years. He was a Sunday School Superintendent and a deacon at his church and a World War U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.
Surviving are wife, Ruth L. Greene of the home; sons, Richard L. Greene of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; Charles Greene of Troy; brother, V.A. Greene Jr. of Troy; sisters, Ida Williams, Sadie McIntyre, Elma Miller, Nellie McIntyre, Dortha Cave, all of Troy; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Granite Quarry and a homemaker.

ASHEBORO - Oskar Thomas Saunders, 67, of 1525 Brookdale Drive, Asheboro, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Nellie Bescher and the Rev. Jeff Freeman officiating. Entombment will follow at Randolph Memorial Park with military honors.
He was a native of Montgomery County and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Carolina Freight and attended Whispering Pines Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are wife, Lucille Loflin Saunders; daughters, Linda Chavez of Robbins, Rose Gum of Readyville, Tenn.; sons, Gary Saunders, Darryl Saunders and Bill Saunders, all of Asheboro; brother, Bobby Saunders of Asheboro; seven grandchildren.

She was a native of Randolph County and the widow of Clyde H. Williams. She attended Crestview Wesleyan Church and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of High Point University and a retired teacher with the Randolph County Schools.
Surviving are stepdaughter, Avis Callicutt of Asheboro; stepson, Harold Williams of Asheboro; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; caregiver, Sharon Harwell of Asheboro.

GOLDSTON - Hugh M. Dixon, 81, of 95 Windsor St., died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Goldston Cemetery, with the Rev. Susan Cafferty officiating.
He was a native of Chatham County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of Goldston United Methodist Church, where he was a former Sunday School teacher and superintendent. He was a member of the VFW and Goldston American Legion Bradford-Davis Post 292.
Surviving are wife, Alberta L. "Doot" Dixon of Goldston; sons, W. Keith Dixon of Harpers Cross Roads, Steve Dixon of Blythewood, S.C.; sister, Hazel Gilchrist of Charlotte; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

She was a native of Philadelphia, Pa., the widow of Edison E. "Corky" Marley and a graduate of Asheboro High School. She attended the DePaul School of Nursing in Norfolk, Va., and was employed as an accountant with Phillip Brady, P.A.
Surviving are daughters, Pamela M. Rogers of Macon, Ga., Martha-Ann M. Dailey, Patricia Marley, Margaret M. Oiler, Ann-Marie Marley, all of Charlotte; sons, Brian T. Marley of Charlotte, Larry W. VASS - Clyde P. Adams, 84, of Woodlake, formerly of Marathon, N.Y., died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at New Home Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jimmie Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites.
He was a native of Marathon, N.Y., a retired lieutenant colonel and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Air Corps, where he received two Purple Hearts and a Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC). He attended Cornell University and retired as property manager for the state of New York, Farmers Home Administration (FmHA). He was a former Rotarian, in the Gideon's and worked with the Sandhills Youth Center.
Surviving are sons, Jim Adams of Fayetteville, Richard Adams of Carthage; brother, Robert Adams of Marathon, NY; sister, Margaret Adams of Indian Trail; two grandchildren.

OPELIKA, Ala. - Gordon L. "Jim" Erickson, 81, of Destrehan, La., formerly of Opelika, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at his home.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Auburn, with the Rev. Martin McGeough officiating. Burial will be in Garden Hills Cemetery.
He was a native of Merrillan, Wis., the widower of Margaret Erickson and a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He retired as a controller from Uniroyal, Inc., in Opelika, Ala., and Fleetway Rubber Co. in Conyers, Ga., and was employed at Destrehan Hardware and True Value Hardware in Boutte, La. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Luling, La.
Surviving are wife, Anita Perret Erickson of Destrehan, La.; daughters, Patricia Erickson of Encinitas, Calif., Nancy E. Revell of Asheboro; son, Michael Erickson of Greenville, S.C.; stepsons, Sid Perret of Destrehan, La., Harry Perret of New Orleans, La., Steve Perret of Hammond, La; stepdaughter, Patricia Perret Hoff of Destrehan, La.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Jamestown and the widow of Van Cranford. She was a graduate of Guilford College and a retired fourth-grade teacher with Balfour Elementary School. She attended South Plainfield Friends Meeting.
