He was a native of Moore County and an employee of Perdue Farms.

RAMSEUR - Irene "Meme" Jessup Moffitt, 85, of 4986 Old Coleridge Road, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Gerald Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery.
She was a native of Hillsville, Va., a homemaker and a member of Antioch Christian Church.
Surviving are daughters, Barbara M. Hannon of Siler City and Margaret Moffitt, of the home; brothers, Calvin Jessup of Burlington, Leon Jessup of Coleridge and Thurman Jessup of Bennett; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was a native of Chatham County and a retired homemaker.

TROY - Betty Jean Green Freeman died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, in Catskills, N.Y.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Troy Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Troy, with the Rev. Rockford Penn and the Rev. Willis Freeman officiating. Burial will be in the Freeman Cemetery in Troy.
A native of Ritter, S.C., she served as a missionary, an usher, a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Omega Choir of the Newburgh Church. She worked at the U.S. Mint, West Point, N.Y. and as a lunch aide in the Newburgh Free Academy.
Surviving are husband, the Rev. Randolph Freeman Sr. of the home; sons, John Israel Freeman Sr. of Toledo, Ohio, and Randolph Freeman Jr. of Southfield, Mich.; brothers, Ruben Green of Ritter, S.C., Rufus Green of Dover, Del..; sisters, Lucille Russell of Walterboro, S.C., and Adaline Riley-White of New York City.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a homemaker and a member of St. Stephens A.M.E. Church.

ASHEBORO - Shurman Diffie Hammer, 89, of 917 Lee St., Asheboro, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. J. Nathan King and the Rev. Eric L. Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.
He was a native of Asheboro and a member of Asheboro United Church of Christ. He was retired from Acme-McCrary Hosiery Corp. and was a pitcher for the McCrary Eagles Baseball team in the 1940s.
Surviving are wife, Irene Shaw Hammer; daughter, Julia Hockett of Arlington, Va.; son, Donnie S. Hammer of Asheboro; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

He was a carpenter for 40 years and a tobacco farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Julian Hill Baptist Church.
