ROBBINS - Vida Hussey Garner, 90, of 4020 N.C. 705 died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Pinelake Health and Rehab Center, Carthage.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Smyrna United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Joseph Forbes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Houston Garner, a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class at her church and was retired from Robbins Mills.

Surviving are son, Swanson Garner of Robbins; sisters, Artie Mae Brown of Asheboro, Gladys H. Upchurch of Highfalls, Rosa H. Williams and Beatrice H. Grimes, both of Robbins; brother, Jasper Junior Hussey of Spring Lake; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, other times at the Swanson Garner home, 276 Browns Mill Road.

Mary D. McEachern
RALEIGH - Mary Dorris Williams McEachern, 88, of 600 Newton Road, Raleigh, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Outlook Point at North Ridge, Raleigh.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. W. Michael Holder officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro.

She was a native of Roper, the widow of Jack McEachern, a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are brothers, Harry Williams of Raleigh, Adger Williams of Hilton Head, S.C.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, N.C. 27204-0009.

Joseph A. Sciuto
ASHEBORO - Joseph Anthony Sciuto, 76, of 1306 Old Cox Road, Apt. 35, Asheboro, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at his home.

Graveside service is 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Arlington National Cemetery with the Rev. David Schwartz officiating.

He was a native of Lawrence, Mass, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served in World War II and also in the U.S. Army where he retired as master sergeant.

Surviving are sons, Alfred Sciuto of Marina, Calif.; stepson, David Schwartz of Asheboro; brothers, Tony Sciuto of Cambridge, Mass., Santo Sciuto of Lawrence, Mass; sisters, Lee Vitigliano of Cambridge, Mass, and Carmela Manzi of Lawrence, Mass.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Randolph Pregnancy Care Center, 530 S. Cox St., Asheboro, N.C. 27203.

Ada S. Ashworth
FRANKLINVILLE - Ada Smith Ashworth, 58, of 115 Sumner Place, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at her home.

Funeral service is 3 p.m. Monday at Clearview Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ronald Hester and the Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Guilford County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, James Ashworth of the home; sons, James Brian Ashworth of Asheboro and Steven Lewis Ashworth of Franklinville; brothers, Grady J. Smith and Johnny L. Smith, both of Liberty; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Leah B. Russell
FRANKLINVILLE - Leah Burrow Russell, 79, of 2487 N.C. 22 North, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Clapps Nursing Home in Asheboro.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Franklinville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Dowling officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a retired legal secretary.

Surviving are son, Max Russell of Franklinville.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of the son, 2669 N.C. 22 North, Franklinville.

Jessie F. Jackson
SOPHIA - Jessie Lee Fisher Jackson, 82, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002.

Funeral service will be at noon, Monday, at East La Porte Methodist Baptist Church in East La Porte, N.C. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Jackson County, the widow of Thomas A. "T.A." Jackson and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Betty Clark and Sandra Craven; sons, Albert Jackson and Junny Jackson; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Suttles of Etowah, N.C.

The family will be at Hanes-Lineberry, Sedgefield Chapel, 6-8 p.m. Sunday and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Other times at the home of Junny Jackson, 307 Gregg Street, Archdale.

If there is inclement weather on Monday, the service and visitation will be held at Moody Funeral Home, 714 West Main Street, Sylva, N.C. at the same time.

Stella E. Hodgin
HIGH POINT - Stella Ellis Hodgin, 95, of High Point Manor, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at English Road Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. James Summey officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Harry T. Hodgin and was retired from Clarenden Industries.

Surviving are daughters, Linda Trogdon and Julia J. Dunbar, both of High Point; sons, James G. Hodgin of Kernersville, Thomas E Hodgin of West Virginia.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point, 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Lena M. Hicks
RAMSEUR - Lena M. Hicks, 92, formerly of Ramseur, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Village Care Nursing Home, King.

Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Rehobeth United Methodist Church near Ramseur.

She had lived in the Liberty and Ramseur areas prior to going to the nursing home in King.

Surviving are son, Allie F. Long Jr. of Mt. Airy; daughter, Edith Ashley of King; six grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Sunday.

Raymond C. Reitzel
LIBERTY - Raymond Clifton Reitzel, 82, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at his home.

A private service will be held at a later time.

He was a native of Guilford County and had lived in Juneau, Alaska, where he worked on the Alaskan Highway and for the International Airport. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are brother, Edward H. Reitzel of Liberty.

Memorials may be made to the charity or church of the donor's choice.

Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, is in charge of arrangements.

James A. Maness Sr.
LIBERTY - James Allen Maness Sr., 69, of 632 N. Staley St., died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Staley Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Wall officiating.

He was a native of Chatham County and was retired from Liberty Chair Co.

Surviving are wife, Mary Gray Maness of Liberty; sons, James Allen Maness Jr. of Randleman, Terry Ray Maness and George Franklin Maness, both of Liberty; sisters, Eula Darr of Winston-Salem, Margaret Phillips and Lessie Mote, both of Siler City, and Doris Guthrie of Bonlee; brothers, Gurney Maness of Liberty, Charles Maness and Tom Maness, both of Snow Camp, Earl Maness of Siler City, and Junior Maness of Albemarle; one granddaughter.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Eva O. Ezell
SEAGROVE - Eva Owen Ezell, 79, of 312 Yow Road, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, with the Rev. Ray Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Smyrna United Methodist Church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

Surviving are sister, Melba O. Reynolds of Seagrove.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, other times at the home.

Nellie D. Whitt
SILER CITY - Nellie Daurity Whitt, 95, of 900 W. Dolphin St., died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at SunBridge Care Facilities in Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, with the Rev. Wayne Rigney officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, Gulf, N.C.

She was a native of Chatham County and a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Joe Goins of Locust Grove, Va., and Charles Goins of Mt. Jackson, Va.; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 12:30-1:30 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to SunBridge Care Facility, 900 W. Dolphin St., Siler City, N.C. 27344.

Jerome W. Caddell
CARTHAGE - Jerome W. Caddell, 82, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Holiness Church with the Rev. V.D. Dowdy and the Rev. Nathan Hooker officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery with military rites.

He was a native of Moore County and the widower of Naomi Matthews Caddell. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a retired maintenance man for many horse farms in Southern Pines.

Surviving are daughters, Cheryl Degraffenreid and Natalie Degraffenreid, both of Carthage; son, Charles Goins of Carthage; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Cheryl Degraffenreid, 2707 Old Glendon Road, Carthage.

Eugene H. Garner
LEXINGTON - Eugene Harold Garner, 74, of East Old Hwy. 64, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hedrick's Grove United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with the Rev. John Roberts officiating.

He was a native of Davidson County and was retired from Lexington Broom Works.

Surviving are wife, Kathleen Walker Garner, of the home; son, Joby Scott Garner of Lexington; brothers, Hollis Garner and Donald Garner, both of Lexington.

The family will be at Davidson Funeral Home, 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Nora W. Mabe
STAR - Nora Williams Mabe, 77, of 203 Mabe Road, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. Grady Blakely officiating. Burial will follow in White Oak Springs Primitive Church Cemetery, Star.

She was a native of Montgomery County and retired from Clayson Knitting Co. Inc.

Surviving are sons, Bobby R. Mabe of Seagrove and Walter H. Mabe Jr. of Biscoe; daughters, Joyce Cagle of Lynchburg, Va., and Darlene Monroe of Bradenton, Fla.; sister, Ethel Haywood of Mt. Gilead; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Irene J. Whitworth
CHARLOTTE - Irene Justice Whitworth, 83, of 400 N. Hoskins Road, a former resident of Liberty, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, and the widow of Paul Whitworth.

Surviving are daughters, Alice W. Hancock of Stokesdale and Paulette Camp of Goldsboro; son, Richard Whitworth of Stone Mountain, Ga.; brothers, Bob Justice and John Justice, both of Liberty; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Ernest J. Little
ASHEBORO - Ernest John Little, 69, of 4234 Bright Star Lane, Asheboro, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Wesley Long Community Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Ernest John Little Jr. and Pastor Wayne Eller officiating. Burial will follow in the Little Family Cemetery, Asheboro.

He was a native of Randolph County and a member of Pentecostal Church of the Living God in High Point. He retired from Klopman Mills after 50 years of service.

Surviving are wife, Nancy Shaw Little; daughter, Cindy L. Shaffley of Greensboro; sons, Ernest John Little Jr., Eddie Darrell Little and Warren Preston Little, all of Asheboro; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Jane Little Sawyer of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of his son, 847 Register Street, Asheboro.
