Surviving are sons, Lorenzo Watson of Norfolk, Va., Alfred Watson of Greensboro; daughters, Elizabeth McDougal, Margaret Hardy, Betty Jean Herring, Shirley Ann Henderson, Evelyn Hicks, all of Greensboro; brother, Shelly Austin of Greensboro; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.

ALBEMARLE - David Lee Young, 57, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, in Stanly County Hospital, Albemarle.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Troy Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Troy, where he was a member. Burial will be in Freeman Hill Cemetery.
He was a native of Montgomery County and an employee of Wal-Mart of Albemarle.

LONGMONT, Colo. - William Edward McNaney, 86, of 851 Meadowdale Square, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Applewood Living Center, Longmont.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Hope United Methodist Church, Asheboro, with Lowell McNaney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Atlantic City, N.J., and the widower of Treva Voncannon McNaney. He graduated from McKinley Technical High School and attended George Washington University, both in Washington, D.C. He retired from the National Bureau of Standards, now National Institute of Standards and Technology, after 35 years as an engineering technician and retired from Beach Aircraft Corp. as a tool-and-die maker in its Space Shuttle program. He was a member of Rocky Mountain Christian Church, Longmont, Colo.
Surviving are wife, Margaret McNaney of the home; sons, Michael E. McNaney of Colorado Springs, Colo., Lowell McNaney of Concord; three stepchildren; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

ASHEBORO - William Michael Garner, 56, of 361 Hamlin St., Asheboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Andy Garner and the Rev. David Beck officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.
He was formerly employed with Chairs Manufacturing Co.

Howard F. Rich
SOPHIA - Howard Franklin Rich, 88, of Branson Davis Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with the Rev. Jack Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County and the widower of the late Anna Leigh Fields. He attended Sophia United Church of Christ and was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. He retired from Thomas Built Buses after 36 years of service and organized and coached the first little league baseball team in the New Market Community during the late 1950s.
Surviving are sons, Donald Keith Rich of Sophia and Arnold Dean Rich of Albany, Ga.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

A native of Chatham County, she retired from Siler City Mills.

He was a native of Moore County, a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II and a self-employed merchant.

He was a native of Randolph County and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served in the Merchant Marines and was formerly employed with Walker Shoe Company and with the N.C. State Department of Transportation. He was retired from Klaussner Furniture.
Surviving are daughters, Elaine Davis of High Point, Cynthia Short of Atlanta, Ga., and Lisa Johnson of Asheboro; sons, Rodney Kearns of Asheboro, Dewayne Davis and Terry Davis, both of Fayetteville; sister, Pauline Voncannon of Asheboro; nine grandchildren.

He was a native of Schnectady and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He retired after 47 years with the General Electric Co.

PAOLI, Ind. - Emma Martin, 84, formerly of Fredricksburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Scott County Health Care Center, Paoli, Ind.
Funeral service was 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at McAdams Mortuary Inc., Paoli, with Brother Harvey McAdams officiating. Burial followed in Horner's Chapel Cemetery, Fredericksburg.
She was the widow of Gilbert Martin, a homemaker and attended Paoli Wesleyan Church.
