RAMSEUR - Jessie Greene Patterson, 70, of 7474 Old Siler City Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Don Ashley and the Rev. Johnny Henderson officiating.
She was a Montgomery County native, a homemaker and a retired worker from Sapona Manufacturing. She was a member of Franklinville Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are husband, Glenn C. Patterson Sr. of Ramseur; son, Glenn C. Patterson Jr. of Ramseur; mother, Grace Greene of Ramseur; sisters, Doris Carmac of Ramseur and Peggy McKinney of Raleigh; one granddaughter.
The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Lonnie W. Poe
BEAR CREEK - Lonnie Wilson Poe, 92, of 1163 Meronies Church Road, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at his home.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Meroney United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Warren Owens and the Rev. Richard Farmer officiating.
He was a native of Montgomery County, a retired farmer and a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class at his church. He was the widower of Mary Lou Campbell Poe.
Surviving are son, Wilson Poe Jr. of Bear Creek; daughters, Inez P. Joines of Reidsville, Debbie P. Davis of Raleigh and Audrey Poe of the home; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the fellowship hall at the church immediately after the service.

ROBBlNS - Bertie "Bea" Smith Marley, 86, of 211 Lake Drive, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at her home.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Wilson Harris and the Rev. Robert Bundy officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Rest Cemetery.
She was a native of Moore County and former owner and operator of Friendly Stop Cafe.
Surviving are sons, Don Marley and Ron Marley, both of Robbins, Robert Smith of Columbus, Ga.; sisters, Beulah Rose of Seagrove, Bonnie Sheehan of Asheboro; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

TROY - John Thomas Marshall, formerly of Troy, died Dec. 6, 2002, in Washington, D.C.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 14, at Troy Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial followed in Freeman Hill Cemetery.
He was a native of Wadesboro and a U.S. Army veteran.

Raymond R. Cranford
TROY - Raymond Rudolph "Buddy" Cranford Sr., 78, of 321 W. Roswell St., died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Britthaven of Piedmont, Albemarle.
Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Southside Cemetery, South Main Street, Troy, with the Rev. William Turnmire and the Rev. Russ Brown officiating.
He was a Montgomery County native and a retired furniture upholsterer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of VFW Post 527.
Surviving are daughter, Toni C. Hendren of Troy; son, Rudy Cranford of Albemarle; three grandchildren.

DENTON - Onnie Harkey Fine, 86, of 504 Denton Road, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Vern Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
She was a native of Stanly County and worked at Denton Elementary School as a custodian. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the widow of George McCoy Fine.
Surviving are son, George Wiley Fine of High Point; daughter, Helen Knight of Denton; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Randolph County, former owner and operator of Garner Harris Amoco in Farmer and a member of Pleasant Union United Church of Christ.
Surviving are wife, Hazel Dailey Garner of Kernersville; son, Phil D. Garner of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Hazel Pauline White Hughes, 86, of 2019 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of William Franklin Hughes, a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and a retired employee of A.J. Schneierson.

ASHEBORO - Earl Benjamin "Big Earl" Lewis, 70, of 339 Peachtree St., Asheboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Tim Fore officiating.
He was a native of Randolph County, a retired employee of the City of Asheboro Public Works Department, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post #45 of Asheboro. He was a graduate of Asheboro High School and a member of the state champion football teams of the early 1950s.
Surviving are son, Brian Cooper of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

He was a native of Piqua, Ohio, a retired employee of Bendix Aviation and a member of the United Auto Workers. He was a former member of the First Aid Squad in New Jersey, a member of East Side Baptist Church, Asheboro, and a World War U.S. Marines veteran.
Surviving are wife, Edna Schmidt Miller of Asheboro; daughter, Edna Nagle of Jamestown; son, Byron R. Miller of New Jersey; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Avery County, the widow of Rex W. Abernathy and a homemaker.

RANDLEMAN - Clyde Deoma Church, 82, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Northpointe Assisted Living.

He was a native of Asheville, an ordained minister, a deacon and Sunday School teacher at his church and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are wife, Gladys Plemmons Church of Asheboro; sons, Dan Church and Rick Church, both of Greensboro, Glenn Church of Randleman, Bruce Church of Burlington; daughters, Faye Mundy of Randleman, Novella Kennedy of Liberty, Joyce Vaughn of Greensboro; sisters, Catherine Blanks and Wilma Greene, both of Black Mountain, Willie Mae Bartlette of Fletcher; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

Edgar W. Freeze III
THOMASVILLE - Edgar Wilson Freeze III, 66, of 101 Bell Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, with Dr. Glenn Busch officiating.
He was a native of High Point and attended Randleman High School. He was a 1954 graduate of Randolph Macon Military Academy, Front Royal, Va., and attended N.C. State University where he was a member of the football team and Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was a U.S. Army veteran and the founder of Eddystone Hosiery Mills. He was formerly employed with Commonwealth Hosiery Mill in Randleman, Madison Throwing Co., Mayro Hosiery, Davis Furniture and as the sales manager of Daisy-Kiddie TOT, and Incentives, Inc. He was a Scoutmaster with Troop 7 at Saint Mary's in High Point and worked with the Uwharrie Council Camping program. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Thomasville, and served as its Junior and Senior Warden.
Surviving are wife, Shelby White Freeze of the home; daughter, Louise F. Powers of Memphis, Tenn.; son, Edgar Wilson Freeze IV of Memphis, Tenn.; stepson, Jeffrey White of High Point; sisters, Anita F. Radke of High Point, Parks F. Wilder of Greensboro; brother, John Mann Freeze of High Point; five grandchildren.

TROY - Charles Edward Howard Sr., 78, of 719 Page St., died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at his home.

He was a native of Moore County and attended N.C. State University, where he majored in engineering. He was a graduate of Montgomery Community College with a degree in metal engraving, a member of Troy Masonic Lodge #718 and a retired employee of the Montgomery County Department of Education after 29 years.
Surviving are wife, Louvene M. Howard of the home; sons, Charles Edward Howard Jr. of the home, Joseph M. Howard of Apex; sister, Jacqueline Anderson of Norwood; brother, Bobby T. Howard of Robbins.

Samuel R. Mendola
CARTHAGE - Samuel R. Mendola, 72, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at his home.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, with the Rev. Max Williams officiating.
He was a native of Pittston, Pa., and the widower of Joan A. Mendola. He worked for Public Service Electric and Gas in the gas division in Sayreville, N.J., before retiring in 1992. He moved to Carthage in 1997 where he resided with a daughter.
Surviving are sons, William Mendola of Cameron and Bryant Mendola of Old Bridge, N.J.; daughters, Susan Delaney and Merideth Pecorale, both of Carthage; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
