Don Peacock
DENTON - Don Alexander Peacock, 73, of Greenbrier Drive, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Dan McClure officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
He was a native of Davidson County, a U.S. Army veteran, a retired sales manager with Durham Life Insurance Company and the restaurant operator at Mendenhall Auto Auction, High Point. He was fire chief with the Denton Fire Department and a past president of the Denton Jaycees. He helped organize and coached in the Denton Little League, was a member of the N.C. High School Athletic Officials Association and a baseball official, basketball official and football official. He was an Atlantic Coast Conference baseball umpire, a professional with the Western Carolina Baseball League where he worked two all-star games and two championship series and a 1993 inductee of the South Davidson Hall of Fame.
Surviving are son, Don A. "Chip" Peacock Jr. of Denton; daughters, Donna Briggs of Welcome, Melody Tomter of Savannah, Ga.; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

GREENSBORO - Christine Watkins Shaw, 85, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Guilford Health Care Center, Greensboro.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.
She was a native of Cedar Grove, the widow of Loyd Felix Shaw Sr. and a graduate of Efland High School. She attended East Carolina Teacher's College and worked as a teacher's aide at Rankin School. She was co-owner and operator of L.F. Shaw Furniture Co.
Surviving are son, Lloyd Felix "Phil" Shaw of Greensboro; daughter, Patricia S. Miller of Raleigh; sister, Katherine Tripp of Bethel; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

SNOW CAMP - Lela Mae Smith, 97, formerly of Garner Road and The Oaks in Burlington, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Alamance Health Care Center.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Liberty, where she was a member, with the Rev. Joe Hicks and the Rev. Nila Souther officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was the widow of Flave H. Smith and a pianist at her church.
Surviving are sons, F.H. Smith Jr. of Berea, Ohio, Jimmy R. Smith of Greensboro; sister, Maude Murray of Snow Camp; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, and at the church following the service.

SILER CITY - Curtis Warren McLaughlin of 6871 Silk-Hope/Liberty Road, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Bensalem Baptist Church, Highfalls, where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a former employee of Goodyear and the Chatham County Police Department.

She was a native of Montgomery County.

CARTHAGE - Marcella Drake Stewart, 72, of 706 Sunset Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

She was a native of New York, N.Y.

IAEGER, W.Va. - George Clark Justice, 67, of Steeles, W.Va., died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, W.Va.
Funeral service will be noon Thursday at Fanning Funeral Home, Iaegar, W.Va., with the Rev. Dennis Lester and the Rev. Gary Walker officiating. Burial will be in Emily Greene Cemetery, Pads Fork, W.Va.
He was a native of Steeles, W.Va., and a retired carpenter.

He was a native of Randolph County and an employee of Donald Sweat Painting.

RANDLEMAN - Leonard Arthur Rockow, 87, of 1077 Rockow Road, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at New Salem United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. David McCauley officiating.
He was a native of Cleveland, Ohio, a World War II veteran and a tool engineer, auto mechanic and a violinist. He retired from Sanborn Wire Products Co. in Rock Creek, Ohio.
Surviving are wife, Dorothea "Dolly" Shaw Rockow of Randleman; sons, Frank Rockow, Brian Rockow and Kenneth Rockow, all of Oklahoma City, Okla.; daughter, Katharine Napoli of Verona, N.J.; brothers, Charles Rockow of Geneva, Ohio, Don Rockow of Painesville, Ohio, George Rockow of Madison, Ohio; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

He was a native of Moore County, a U.S. Army veteran and a retired fixer with Ramtex in Ramseur.

He was a native of Norwalk, Conn., a World War II U.S. Marine Corp veteran, a retired baker for Pepperidge Farms and a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are wife, Jean Charlotte Morrell Tomey of Waxhaw; daughters, Diana J.T. Leadbetter of Lake Park, Paula A.T. Dedering of Greensboro; son, Joseph Anthony Tomey of Waxhaw; three grandchildren; one great-grandson.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of William Leonard Smith and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Seagrove. She had worked at Bossong Hosiery Mill and Shelton's Pottery.
