Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Family Worship Ministries, Troy, with the Rev. Harold Pope officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

She was a native of Fargo, N.D., a graduate of Detroit Lakes High School and an employee of the State Employees Credit Union. She attended Family Worship Ministries.

Surviving are husband, Chester H. Conway of the home; sons, Daniel Schmidt of Thurmont, Md., Steven Conway of Star, Douglas Conway of Detroit Lakes, Minn., David Conway of Milwaukee, Wis.; daughters, Debbie Warner of Taylorsville, Ky., Pamela White of Milwaukee, Wis., Alicia Kohler of Prattsville, Ala., Patricia Wooden of Crosby, Minn., Jennifer Sanders of Hendersonville; brothers, Merle Singer and Richard Singer, both of Perham, Minn., David Singer of Prior Lake, Minn., Peter Singer of Cape Coral, Fla.; sisters, Clara Beckett of Moorhead, Minn., Nancy Kankovsky of West Yellowstone, Mont., Diane Velashi of Baldwin, Wis.; 20 grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

William W. Bell
TROY - William Whitson Bell, 68, of 468 W. Spring St., died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at High Point Care Center, High Point.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Southside Cemetery, with the Rev. Glenn Hancock officiating.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a member of First United Methodist Church and a retired salesperson.

Surviving are wife, Elsie Lee Vanhoy Bell of the home; sons, Jack Bell of Baltimore, Md., Leroy Bell of Virginia Beach, Va., Larry Bell of West Palm Beach, Fla.; daughters, Barbara Bell of Madiera Beach, Fla., Phyllis Milanese of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brother, John Bell of Bishopville, S.C.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 12:30-1:30 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Edward H. Walker
ASHEBORO - Edward Harrison Walker, 77, of 3255 Stutts Road, Asheboro, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Back Creek Friends Meeting, where he was a member, with the Rev. Ray Lambe, the Rev. Tim Grant and the Rev. Harold Salmon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and formerly employed with Klopman Mills. He was a farmer and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Jerry Whitley Walker of the home; daughters, Bonnie W. Parks of Asheboro, Kay W. Brawley of Statesville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

David L. Poole
RANDLEMAN - David Leon Poole, 60, of 2285 Old Liberty Road, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. James Robbins and the Rev. Rhonda Levy officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, a self-employed contractor and formerly attended Grays Chapel School.

Surviving are wife, Patricia Jarrell Poole of the home; daughter, Vickie Sykes of Asheboro; sons, Tony Poole, Randy Poole, both of Asheboro; mother, Mary Virginia Kennedy of Asheboro; sisters, Hilda Latham of Asheboro, Loretta Poole of Worthville, Judith "Skipper" Newby of Level Cross; brothers, Herbert Poole of Worthville, James Marshall Pressnell of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home noon-2 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Vickie Sykes, 1035 Neely Drive, Asheboro.

Dorothy G. Bodenhamer
SOPHIA - Dorothy Gibbs Bodenhamer, 67, of 2558 Beckerdite Road, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Ricky Sessoms and the Rev. Ernest Beck officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Polk County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Bobby E. Bodenhamer of Sophia; daughters, Teresa Branch of Asheboro, Cathy Davis of Randleman, Patty Beck of Burlington, Beverly Martin of Georgia; sons, Dennis Bodenhamer, Ricky Bodenhamer, both of High Point, Jeffery Bodenhamer, Jerry Bodenhamer, Bobby Bodenhamer, all of Sophia, Timothy Bodenhamer of Texas; brother, Donald Gibbs; sisters, Louise Cranford of Asheboro, Maggie Lee Conner of Maggie Springs, Mary Alice Moore of Greenville, S.C.; 25 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

John Duncan Jr.
RAMSEUR - John Duncan Jr., 79, of 1162 Mill Creek Road, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Jack Kivett officiating. Burial will be 4:30 p.m. in New Hollywood Cemetery, Lumberton.

He was a native of Robeson County and a retired employee of Burlington Industries.

Surviving are daughter, Mary Smith of Ramseur; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

William H. Watkins
RAMSEUR - William Henry Watkins, 62, of 4665 Ogles Creek St., died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at The Look to Jesus Christian Center.

Surviving are finance, Rhoda Douglas of Asheboro; daughters, Angelina Brown of Ramseur, Regina Martin of Charlotte; brother, Alfred Watkins of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 2-3 p.m. Sunday.

Gailes Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Cleatus Johnson
SILER CITY - Cleatus Johnson, 85, of 3595 Silk Hope Road, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Lamont Hemminger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a member of American Legion Post # 08721, Liberty, Veterans of Foreign Wars #38 and former owner and operator of Silk Hope Service Station.

Surviving are son, Larry Johnson of St. Cloud, Fla.; sister, Freda Johnson of Greensboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

MT. GILEAD - Grace Beatrice Greene, 91, of New Jersey, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Clark's Grove Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead, with the Rev. John McQueen officiating. Burial will be in Bruton Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Percy Greene of Newark, N.J., Joseph Greene Sr., of Plainfield, N.J.; sisters, Mary Greene of New Jersey, Hester Jones of New York; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 7:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Grace Robinson, Wadeville.

Alice W. Black
CARTHAGE - Alice Williams Black, 87, formerly of Carthage, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Pinehurst Nursing Center, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Reeves Chapel AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Waddell Goodman officiating. Burial will be in the Old Reeves Chapel Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Kelly Black and a housekeeper in Charlotte.

Surviving are son, James E. Williams of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sisters, Bell Person of Robbins, Mary Taylor of Pittsburgh, Pa., Betty Shamburger, Mattie Williams, both of Carthage, Eva Brower of Asheboro, Esther LeGrand of Biscoe, Jessie Barrett of Pinehurst; brothers, Elder B.S. Williams of Columbus, Ohio, Leonard Williams, Willie Williams, both of Robbins; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, is in charge of arrangements.

Brenda G. Maness
PINEHURST - Brenda Gooch Maness, 61, of 115 Longleaf Drive West, formerly of Troy, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Stanly Gardens of Memory, Albemarle, with the Rev. Glenn Hancock officiating.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a former manager of the Holiday Inn, Southern Pines and a member of Ophir United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Kim M. Talbert of Southern Pines; brother, Reginald Gooch of Denton, Bill Gooch, Richard Gooch, Steve Gooch, Phillip Gooch, all of Troy; sisters, Janie Morgan, Linda Karriker, Kaye Norris, all of Troy; one grandchild.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Janie Morgan, 4354 N.C. 109 North, Troy.

William J. Alexander Jr.
ASHEBORO - William Joseph "Dub" Alexander Jr., 79, of 278 Oak View Lane, Asheboro, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at his home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Whynot Cemetery, with Dr. Charles Harris and the Rev. Tim Fonner officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired from Eveready and a member of Union Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Clara Sue Williams Alexander of the home; sons, Ronald J. Alexander of Locust, William Daryl Alexander of Asheboro, Randall Keith Alexander; sisters, Marjorie York of Siler City, Euthia Ann McNeill of Seagrove; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Asheboro Ward, where he was a member, with Bishop Paul Hiatt and Willard Hiatt officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Mecklenburg County, a U.S. Navy veteran and retired from B&W Metal Works of Welcome.

Surviving are wife, Mary Frances Severt Butler of Randleman; daughters, Teresa Hope Hiatt of Pinehurst, Kathy Elizabeth Jenkins of Randleman; son, Lonnie Charles "Chuck" Butler of Kernersville; brothers, Jesse Robert Butler of High Point, James McCoy Butler of Stillwater, Okla., Ernest Jarrell Butler of Welcome; sister, Mildred Virginia Thomas of High Point; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

RAMSEUR - Margaret O'Quinn Burgess, 83, of 1421 N.C. 22 South, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Adrian Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.

She was a native of Anson County, retired from General Electric Corp. and owned Burgess Garbage Service.

Surviving are son, Kent Burgess of Ramseur; daughter, Pat B. Smith of Ramseur; sister, Agnes Barnes of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Margaret J. Cooper
RAMSEUR - Margaret Jarrell Cooper, 86, of 151 King Road, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Thomas Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Pinehill United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Thomasville, a homemaker and attended the Church of God of Prophecy.

Surviving are sons, Thomas Edward Cooper, Kenneth Joe Cooper of California; daughters, Ellen C. Cox of Asheboro, Martha C. Fiddie of Franklinville, Lilly Alene Wilburn of California; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Martha Fiddie, 338 Pleasant Ridge Road, Franklinville.
