LIBERTY - John Houston Shea, 77, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Howard Spray officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Christian Church Cemetery.
He was a native of Beckley, W.Va., and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are wife, Cuma Johnson Shea; stepdaughters, Ida Glidewell of Liberty, Ann Cox of Ramseur; stepson, Roy Johnson of Siler City; sisters, Frances Mullins and Billie Deckner, both of Martinsville, Va.; eight stepgrandchildren; 21 stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family will be at the home of Ida and Ralph Glidewell, 5517 Butler Road, Liberty.

Virginia J. Chavis
SILER CITY - Virginia J. Chavis, 76, of 900 W. Dolphin St., died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Jordan Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, with the Rev. Gene Horton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a retired employee of Hickory Mountain Farms.
Surviving are sister, Margie Lewis of Decatur, Ga.; brothers, Arthur Williams of Siler City, Gene Brooks of Brooklyn, N.Y.; foster sister, Christine Brooks of Siler City; foster daughters, Kathleen Robinson of Forest Hills, Md., Quimillar Harris and Phyllis Hussin, both of Siler City.
The family will be at Farrar Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-8 p.m. Thursday.
Charles Allen
DENTON - Charles O. Allen, 62, of Vernon Avenue, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Thomasville Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Central United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Joe Collins and the Rev. Chris Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
He was a native of Cleveland County and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was the retired executive vice president of Mid-State Plastics in Seagrove, a graduate of N.C. State University in electrical engineering and a certified Quality Control engineer.
Surviving are wife, Dr. Susan Wilson Allen of the home; son, James Jeremy Allen of Matthews; daughter, Jennifer Susan Allen of the home; mother, Mary Owens Allen of Kings Mountain; brother, Arthur Allen Jr. of Charlotte.
The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

DENTON - A.G. "Tiny Boy" Jernigan, 78, of Old Camp Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Jesse Howard officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
He was a native of Horry County, S.C., the widower of Jewell H. Jernigan and a former employee of Councill Furniture Co.
Surviving are son, Lee Jernigan of Denton; daughters, Elizabeth Anderson, Norma Anderson, both of Denton; brothers, Roosevelt "Pete" Jernigan, James Jernigan, both of Denton; sisters, Dollie "Peggy" Britt of Denton, Esther Stroud of Lexington, Irene Stroud of Mullins, S.C.

ROBBINS - Amy Sanders Strider, 77, of 244 Sunset Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Brown's Chapel Christian Church, with the Rev. Mike Holyfield officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Stanly County, a former member of Brown's Christian Church and a homemaker.
Surviving are husband, Carmon C. Strider of the home; sons, Gary Lee Strider of Ft. Hunter Liggett, Calif., Carmon C. STAR - Dorothy Maxine Davis, 74, of 230 Smith St., died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at her home.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a retired employee of Montgomery Hosiery.
Surviving are daughters, Geraldine Beitzel, Hilda Davis, Ruth Ann Davis, all of Star; sons, Kelly Davis, Joe Ed Davis, both of Star; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

He was a Randolph County native and a member of Providence Friends Meeting. He was retired from Boren Brick in Pleasant Garden where he was a supervisor for 13 years.
Surviving are wife, Winnie York McAden of the home; daughter, Betty McAden Staley of Franklinville; sons, Jimmy R. McAden and William H. McAden, both of Randleman, and Roy L. McAden of Whitsett; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

A Guilford County native, he was retired from Burlington Industries after 27 years of service and had been self-employed as a painter.

LIBERTY - Willie Hatch Fox Jr., 69, of 9246 Pleasant Hill Church Road, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at his home.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Christian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Howard Spray officiating.
He was an Alamance County native and a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church where he served on the Board of Deacons and the Cemetery Association. He was retired from the former E.F. Craven Co.
Surviving are wife, Joanne Smith Fox of the home; sister, Anne Hackney of Graham.

ASHEBORO - Homer Lee Simmons, 99, formerly of W.O.W. Road, Randleman, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. John S. Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.
He was a native of Roswell, Ga., was of the Baptist faith and had worked at many local knitting mills. He was the widower of Mattie Cornell Ausley Simmons.
Surviving are daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" Simmons of Asheboro and Violet Ruth Eddinger of Randleman; sons, Richard Lee Simmons of Edgewater, Fla.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

She was a Montgomery County native and owner/operator of Allred Plant Farm.
