HIGH POINT - Lura Emeline Smith Puckett, 82, of 6108 Appletree Court, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, with Pastor Cecil Tucker, the Rev. Eugene Puckett and Pastor Donald Puckett officiating. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was a homemaker, the widow of the Rev. James Cecil Puckett and a member of Northside Freewill Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class.

Surviving are daughters, JoAnn Broadway, Faye Roberts, both of Archdale; sons, Jerry Cecil Puckett, Rev. Jackie James Puckett, both of Trinity, Dale Puckett of High Point; stepson, Pastor Cecil Tucker of High Point; sister, Virginia Worrell of Mount Airy; brothers, Arnold Smith, Dick Smith, both of Cana, Va.; grandson, Phillip James Puckett of the home; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

TROY - Ralph Edward Parsons, 55, of McIntosh St., Star, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Durham.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, with the Rev. William Church officiating. Burial will be in Wadeville Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam and was employed by Joyce Frame Shop.

Surviving are wife, Joe Ann Parsons of Star; sons, Edward Parsons of the home, Dennis Parsons of Candor, Johnny Parsons of Ether; daughter, Jennifer Parsons of the home; mother, Pearl Parsons of Troy; brothers, Garrett Parsons, Johnny Parsons, both of Troy, Tony Parsons of Locust, Jody Parsons, Doug Parsons, both of Ether; sisters, Brenda Saunders of Biscoe, Kathryn Loftin of Troy.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Ferrell E. Deaver Sr.

KINSTON - Ferrell Edwood Deaver Sr., 62, of 1501 N. Heritage St., died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Garner Funeral Home, Kinston, with the Rev. Steve Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Oakridge Memorial Park, Pink Hill.

He was employed with Kinston Shirt Factory for over 19 years and retired from Bassett-Walker Inc.

Surviving are wife, Anita W. Deaver of the home; daughter, Meredith Benson of Deep Run; son, Ferrell E. Deaver Jr. of Kinston; sister, Florine D. Jones of Asheboro.

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Manuel H. Martin of 1970 Amsterdam Ave. died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Presbyterian Medical Center.

Adelaide B. Cromartie
Adelaide McGill Boger Cromartie, 83, of 3504 Flint St., Greensboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, in Raleigh.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Asheboro, where she was a member, with the Rev. Bruce Feltrup-Exum officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Cabarrus County, the widow of William King Cromartie, graduated from Kannapolis High School, attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and was a graduate of Flora McDonald in Red Springs with a degree in elementary education. She was a teacher in Asheboro and Randleman for many years, did graduate work in speech and hearing and worked with children in those fields in Randolph County.

Surviving are daughters, Caroline Cromartie Quinn of Cary, Adelaide Cromartie Wallinger of Darien, Conn.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8 p.m. Thursday.

Hal H. Garner

Hal Harrison Garner, 74, of 400 Steele St., Gibsonville, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at V.A. Medical Center, Durham.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Jim Smyrl officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, former operator of Snow White Drive Inn, World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of the D.A.V. and was a member of First Baptist Church in Gibsonville.

Surviving are daughter, Elaine Garner Collins of Asheboro; son, Kent B. Garner of Robbins; brother, Blease Garner of Asheboro; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday.

CLIMAX - Kimber T. Andrew, 93, of 6240 Hunting Lodge Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Providence Friends Meeting, where he was a member, with the Rev. Charles Adams, the Rev. Victor Murchison and the Rev. Thomas Burt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Randolph County, he was an Elder, Sunday School teacher and choir member at his church, a member of the Grays Chapel Lions Club and a former member of the Randolph County Board of Education.

Surviving are son, Phillip W. Andrew of Climax; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of the son, 6489 Hunting Lodge Road, Climax.

Mattie Nichols Auman, 87, of 207 S. Broad St., Seagrove, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Montgomery Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Elder Steve Long officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Dorothy Lawless of Melborne, Fla., Deloris Saunders of Troy, Janet Tompkins of Charlotte; son, Hoyt Auman of Seagrove; sister, Maie McDuffie of Star; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

ARCHDALE - Pearl Riley Harrison, 72, of 8434 U.S. 311, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ronald Carpenter officiating.

She was a native of Roxboro and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Peter Harrison of the home; sons, Leonard Harrison Sr. of Asheboro, Richard Jack Harrison of Baltimore, Md.; sisters, Margaret Harrison of Richmond, Va., Laurel Riley Wells, Dianne Riley, Sibbie Riley, all of Ohio; brothers, Michael Riley, John Riley, Jimmy Riley, Joe Riley, Frank Riley, Harry Riley, all of Ohio; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth M. Severt

RANDLEMAN - Elizabeth Mae Mash Severt, 94, formerly of Ashe County, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Community General Hospital in Thomasville.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Jefferson. Burial will be in the Severt Family Cemetery.

She was a native of Ashe County and the widow of Joseph "Hilt" Severt.

Surviving are daughters, Gladys S. Dillard of High Point, Mary Butler of Randleman, Grace Miller of West Jefferson, Bessie Morgan of Jamestown, Betty Dawson of Thomasville, Dorothy Roten of Millers Creek; sons, Robert Worth Severt of High Point, Don Severt of Lexington; brother, Don Carl Mash of Glendale Springs; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Annie P. Potter

LEXINGTON - Annie Payne Potter, 74, formerly of 430 Conner St., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at Winston-Salem Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephens United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Dewey W. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lexington City Cemetery.

Surviving is sister, Rebecca P. Gilchrist of Lexington.

The family will be at the church 1:30-2 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service.

Ruth L. Short

ROBBINS - Ruth Lambert Short, 68, of 147 Charlie Scott Road, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Prosperity Friends Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. David Murphy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, choir director at her church for 36 years and a member of the Ladies Missionary Society.

Surviving are husband, Clarence Short of the home; daughters, Deanna S. Dangerfield of Fort Knox, Ky., Kathy S. Phillips of Franklinville; sons, Ronald Maness of Robbins, Kenneth Maness of Seagrove, Alan Short of Cary; sisters, Blanche Kennedy of Carthage, Mozelle Comer of High Point, Mildred L. Latta of Robbins, Aileen Jones of Black Mountain, K. Delores Garner of Bennett, Frances Stuart of Fletcher, Louise Martin of Monroe; brothers, Wayne Lambert of Asheboro, Richard Lambert of Archdale, Herbert Lambert of Robbins; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

MT. GILEAD - Curtis Bogans, 62, of 8112 Linberg Blvd., Philadelphia, Pa., died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, Darby, Del.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Thomasville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lewis Blakney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County and a social worker for the Christian Alliance in Philadelphia, Pa.

Surviving are son, Tracy Bogans of Harrisburg, Pa.; brothers, D.C. Bogans, Fletcher Bogans Jr., both of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Catherine Bogans of Yeadon, Pa., Ruby Bogans of Mt. Gilead; one grandchild.

Thelma S. Mulkins

WEST END - Judyth Thelma Smith Parsons Mulkins, 89, of 185 Woodlawn St., died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at the home of her daughter in Aberdeen.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Daniel R. Duncan officiating. Burial will be in the Smith Family Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Worth R. Parsons and Clem G. Mulkins, a graduate of Candor High School and owner and operator of Parsons Esso Station for many years.

Surviving are son, Philip Parsons of West End; daughter, Iris Duvall of Aberdeen; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6-8 p.m. Sunday, other times at the daughter's home, 602 Sanborn St., Aberdeen.

He was a native of Alleghany County, retired from J.P. Stevens and was a member of South Fork Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Oda Ethel Roberts Evans; son, Robert Evans of Franklinville; daughter, Mary Nell Evans Wagoner of Ramseur; brother, Clyde Evans of Sparta; sisters, Eva Sue Thornton of Low Gap, Minnie Lou Riling of Inverness, Fla., Gay Tilley of Winston-Salem, Lillie May Halsey of Cherry Lane; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired from Lancer Inc. and was a past employee of Wiser Security Service.

Surviving are wife, Lucille Freeman of Star; daughters, Ruth Ann Bullard of Troy, Janice Davis of the home; sons, Charles E. Freeman of the home, Jerry D. Freeman of Candor; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

John C. Henley

SNOW CAMP - John C. Henley, 69, of 8809 Snow Camp Road, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at his home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cane Creek Friends Cemetery, with the Rev. Dale Matthews officiating.

He was a native of Pilot Mountain, retired from Chatham Novelties, Siler City, and was a member of Cane Creek Friends Meeting.
