ASHEBORO - Alton James Ferree, 81, of Clapp's Nursing Home, formerly of 546 McDermott St., Asheboro, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. William Christopher Thore officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park, with full Masonic Rites.
He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Eva Hooker Ferree, a member of Cedar Falls United Methodist Church, a member of Asheboro Masonic Lodge #699 and a used car manager with Nance Chevrolet, (Wayne Thomas Chevrolet).
Surviving are son, James Harvey Ferree of Asheboro; daughter, Linda Thomas of Asheboro; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of his daughter, 850 Monroe Ave., Asheboro.

ARCHDALE - Protus Terrell Wood, 74, of 3776 Wood Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glenola Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Doug Davis, the Rev. Norman Livengood and the Rev. Bill Barnes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are wife, Irma White Wood of the home; daughters, Karen W. McKenzie of Trinity, Terra W. Russo of Raleigh; son, Kevin Protus Wood of Archdale; brother, Herman Wood of Archdale; two grandsons; two stepgrandchildren.

LIBERTY - Bessie Moody Pickard, 96, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Santa Rosa Convalescent Center in Milton, Fla.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery, Liberty.
She was a native of Pleasant Hill.
Surviving are son, Larry Pickard of Pace, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

SILER CITY - Garvin Gyles Lindley, 77, of 3066 Woody Store Road, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at his home.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at South Fork Friends Church, Snow Camp, where he was a member, with the Rev. Rodney Powell and the Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Chatham County, the widower of Bartialette Perry Lindley and a farmer. He was a member of the William Penn Sunday School class at his church, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are daughters, Sue Nelson, Brenda Szilvay, both of Siler City, Nina Jones of Bennett; brother, Marvin Lindley of Siler City; sister, Nena Woody of Siler City; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

SILER CITY - Wilma Dell Fields Hadlock, 75, of 313 N. Garden, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Wesley Long Community Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Siler City Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Sue Flippin officiating. Burial will be in Black Hill National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D.
She was a native of Mingo County, W. Va., a retired school teacher, a member of East Williamson Baptist Church and attended Siler City Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the session of Siler City Presbyterian Church and did the youth sermon. She graduated in 1945 from Williamson High School and received her B.S. degree from Bob Jones University. In 1973 she received her masters degree from the University of Guam. She was the widow of Charles Edward Hadlock.
Surviving are sons, Wilton Edward Hadlock of Westminster, Colo., and Jeffrey Ross Hadlock of Salina, Kan.; daughters, Jannah K. Laing of Lawrence, Kan., and Marsha L. Linn of Maple Valley, Wash.; sister, Wileta Bell of Wheeling, W. Va.; 10 grandchildren.

CANDOR - June Honaker Parsons, 94, of 203 N. Main St., died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Candor United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Candor Cemetery.
She was a native of Wytheville, Va. and a retired school teacher having taught 42 years in the Moore and Montgomery County school systems. She was the widow of Edward B. Parsons.
Surviving are daughter, Alice P. Suddereth of Monteguma, N.C.; sons, Neal Parsons and French Parsons both of Candor; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

SILER CITY - Ruth Louise Mitchell Jones, 77, of 115 Nelson St., died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at SunBridge Care Facilities, Siler City.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Brookdale Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Randy Queen officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Bonlee, N.C.
She was a native of Quinby, Va., and a retired seamstress from A.J. Schneierson and Sons. She was the widow of Sherman Holt Jones.
Surviving are daughter, Carroll Johnson of Siler City; son, Mike Jones of Panama City, Fla.; two grandsons; one great-grandchild.

ELKVIEW, W.Va. - Vesta Ellen Chapman, 94, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Center.
Funeral service was Sunday, Jan. 25, at Antioch Advent Christian Church, Elkview, with the Rev. Terry Johnson and the Rev. Rick Sams officiating. Burial followed in Woodall Cemetery.
She was the widow of Melvin Chapman.

DENTON - Elizabeth Ann "Beth" Sholar, 17, of N.C. 109 South, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Funeral service will be 9 a.m. Friday at Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Mark Andrews, the Rev. Mark Hopkins and the Rev. Timothy Gore officiating. Entombment will be 4 p.m. Friday at Henderson-Sholar Family Cemetery in Wallace.
She was a native of Sampson County, a junior at South Davidson High School and an employee at Subway in Lexington.

She was a retired employee of Boling Chair Co. and a member of Order of the Eastern Star #521.

ROBBINS - Daniel Spinks Kidd, 85, of 1003 Northmoore Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Putnam Friends Church, where he attended, with the Rev. Ernest Moore and the Rev. D.L. Hussey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of Moore County, he retired worker from the N.C. Department of Transportation after 25 years.
Surviving are wife, Mary Edith Baber Kidd; son, Daniel S. Kidd of Raleigh; daughters, Hilda K. McBryde of Sanford, Marie K. Williams of Robbins, Sandra K. Fine of Spartanburg, S.C., Zelda Kidd of Asheboro; sister, Lillie K. Purvis of Highfalls; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Moore County and retired from Burlington Industries, Ramseur Plant.

William D. Ryckman Jr.
CHARLOTTE - William David Ryckman Jr., 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte.
He was a native of Chicago, Ill., a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps and a 1948 graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. in electrical engineering. He was formerly of Asheboro, where he worked for General Electric. He was a retired employee of Black and Decker, where he was awarded 27 patents, most in consumer products.
Surviving are wife, June Moore Ryckman; daughters, Nancy R. May, Patricia Ryckman, both of Charlotte; son, William D. Ryckman III of Vancouver, Wash.; sister, Betty Perschke of Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren.

Paul C. Hunsucker
ASHEBORO - Paul Clifford Hunsucker, 82, of 443 Craven Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at his home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Mark Beane and the Rev. Charles Lindquist officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
He was a native of Troy, N.C., and a lifelong resident of Asheboro. He was a member of First Methodist Church, but had attended Legend Park United Methodist and First Wesleyan. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during World War II aboard transport ships in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, having circled the globe three times as a seaman and diver. He was president of Hunsucker Printing Co. from 1958-1989.
Surviving are wife, Helen Staley Hunsucker of the home; daughter, Jann H. Prevatte of Simpsonville, S.C.; son, P. Clifford Hunsucker Jr. of Wake Forest; brother, Robert Hunsucker of Asheboro; six grandchildren.
