ASHEBORO - James Michael "Bubbles" Adams, 52, of 608 Holly St., died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro.
He was a Randolph County native and former co-owner of Adams Auto Cleanup and Dixie Flea Antiques. He had also worked for the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Surviving are wife, Jeigh Kennedy Adams of the home; mother, Ruby Bondurant Adams of the home.
The family will be at the funeral home 1-2 p.m. Sunday prior to the service.

Fannie B. Staley
SILER CITY - Fannie Brooks Staley, 94, of 2772 Olivers Chapel Church Road, Staley, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at her home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Olivers Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gaylyn Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She was a Randolph County native.
Surviving are daughters, Sue S. Brooks of Staley, Pauline S. Godfrey of Liberty, Edith A. Staley of the home, Doris S. Wiley of Siler City; sons, Bobby I. Staley and J. Thurman Staley, both of Staley; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the church 1:30-2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.

A.J. Shoffner
LIBERTY - A.J. Shoffner, of 6103 Kirkman St., died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Grove Holiness Church. Burial will follow in Amos Grove Cemetery, Liberty.
He was an automobile salesman with Stuart-Bowman Dealership in Asheboro.
Surviving are wife, Clara Butler Shoffner of the home; sons, Randy Shoffner and Steve Shoffner, both of Liberty; daughters, Diane Cheek of Brooklyn, N.Y., Susan Cheek of Ramseur, Crystal Patterson of Charlotte, Vickie Dark of Staley, Bettye Shoffner of Liberty; sister, Alvenia Shoffner Cheek of Liberty; brothers, Harvey "Jack" Shoffner, Percy Shoffner, George Shoffner, all of Liberty, Robert Shoffner of Greensboro, the Rev. Raymond Shoffner of Reidsville; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
The family will be at St. Stephen A.M.E. Church, Liberty, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday.

MT. GILEAD - James Paul "Butch" Coates Jr., 49, of 5270 Woodrun on Tillery, died Tuesday, Jan, 28, 2003, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Shumate-Falk Funeral Home, Goldsboro, with the Rev. Gene Ridley officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
He was a Cumberland County native and a sound engineer.
Surviving are wife, Robin Coates of the home; sons, Casey Coates of Boone and J.P. Coates of Winston-Salem; father, James Paul Coates Sr. of Wilmington; stepmother, Ellen Coates of Wilmington; sisters, Tina Ashley and Lavonne Roberts, both of Wilmington, Tammy Coates and Susan Harrell, both of Cary.
The family will receive friends after the service on Friday.
Willie Varner
DENTON - William "Willie" B. Varner, 81, of A.R. Morris Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Thomasville Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Summerville Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Flynn Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He was a Davidson County native, a truck driver and a mechanic. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having served in Trinidad.
Surviving are wife, Hester Tysinger Varner of the home; sons, Gary Varner of Thomasville and Doug Varner of Lexington; daughter, Gayle Hilton of Denton; brother, Tyler Varner of Denton; sister, Vearl Pearce of High Point; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

GOLDSBORO - William "Jody" Morrison, 52, of 503 B. Boxwood Lane, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at his home.
Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Friday at Howell Funeral Home, Goldsboro.
He was a native of Newport News, Va., and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War.
Surviving are wife, Gail Conway Morrison; mother, Ann Morrison of Asheboro; son, Matt Matthews of New Bern; daughters, Heather Fritts of Dallas, Ga., and Melanie Matthews Conlin of California; brother, Scott Morrison of Asheboro; two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home; other times at the residence.

RANDLEMAN - Mildred Louise Miller Williamson, 77, of 669 Worthville Road, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman. Burial will follow in Big Oak Church of God Cemetery, Seagrove.
She was a native of Randleman and a member of Asheboro Church of Jesus. She was a homemaker and a former employee with Mayflower Seafood Restaurant.
Surviving are husband, Willie Williamson of Asheboro; daughters, Lynn Pierce of Rockwell, N.C., Ameryles Thomas of Asheboro, Colleen Adams and Vickie Williamson, both of Randleman, Gwendolyn McDowell of Franklinville, Phyllis Busbin, Bernadette Bowden and Vivian Corum, all of Salisbury; sons, Howard Williamson and O.D. Williamson, both of Seagrove, Lawrence Williamson and Richardson Williamson, both of Randleman; sisters, Wilma Williamson of Miami, Fla., Iris Gunter and Juanita Routh, both of Asheboro, and Helen Sanders of Bay Minette, Ala.; brothers, Gilbert Miller of Asheboro and Lester Miller of Chester, Va.; 37 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren.

THOMASVILLE - Pearl Hardister Staley, 88, of 706 Pineywood Road, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Family Funeral Care, Archdale. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery, Seagrove.
She was a Randolph County native and was retired from Globe Furniture. She was of the Baptist Faith and was the widow of James Everett Staley.
Surviving are daughter, Louise Hiatt of High Point; brother, Clarence Hardister of Asheboro; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

MT. GILEAD - Linda Ledbetter McKinnon, 59, of 410 E. Allenton St., died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Sharon Cemetery, with the Rev. Jerry Straight officiating.
She was a Montgomery County native and a retired Nursing Assistant at FirstHealth Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was a member of Cartledge Creek Baptist Church, Rockingham, and a civic volunteer. She was the widow of Johnny L. McKinnon, Sr.
Surviving are sons, Dr. Johnny L. McKinnon Jr. and Steven Todd McKinnon, both of Mt. Gilead.
The family will be at Edwards Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 6-8 p.m. Saturday.
Madrid M. Redding
ASHEBORO - Madrid Marley Redding, 82, of 233, Worth Street, Asheboro, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Russell Chrisco officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Cross Christian Church Cemetery.
She was a native of Cedar Falls and a nurse in the U.S. Army during World War II. She was retired from Acme-McCrary and a member of Cedar Falls Baptist Church.
Surviving are husband, Frank A. Redding Sr.; stepdaughter, Sue Rutland of Concord; stepson, Frank A. Redding Jr. of Asheboro; sisters, Venice M. Coombs of Carmel, Ind., Mary Craven and Betty Boggs both of Asheboro; brother, Tom Marley of Asheboro; four stepgrandchildren.

He was a Montgomery County native and employed with Energizer in Asheboro.

She was a Richmond County native and employed with Wal-Mart.

Thomas of Rochelle, Ga., Royce Samuel Thomas of Columbia, S.C., Melvin Troy Thomas of Randleman, John Randolph Thomas of Badin Lake, Troy C. Thomas Jr. of Asheboro and Donald Wayne Thomas of Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren.

John W. Smith
LIBERTY - John Winfred "Wink" Smith, 93 of 240 W. Starmount Avenue, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Liberty, where he was a member, with the Rev. Stephen Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
He was an Alamance County native, a graduate of Liberty High School and attended N.C. State University. He spent his entire working career with the U.S. Postal Service and retired as Postmaster of the Danville, Va., office. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Virginia National Guard and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a retired active member of the Liberty Rotary Club and was a former member of the Liberty Lions Club. He was an Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Danville.
Surviving are wife, Agnes Swain Smith of the home; brothers, Elbridge Smith and Lon T. Smith, both of Liberty.

Leah M. Horton
SILER CITY - Leah M. Horton, 80, of 1110 Stockyard Road, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wesley Chapel Christian Fellowship Church, where she was a member, with the Dr. J. L. Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She was a Chatham County native.
Surviving are daughters, Faye H. Walden of Bennett and Ann H. Baldwin of Greensboro; sister, Veatrice Foxx of Bear Creek; brother, Hoy J. Miller of Bear Creek; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
