Surviving are mother, Lula Mae Peoples of Asheboro; brothers, Richard McLean of Salisbury, Jeffrey Anthony Harris of Asheboro.

ASHEBORO - Alan Jay Saxe, 44, of 363 Lambert Drive, Asheboro, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Pastor Wayne Eller officiating.
He was a native of Miami, Fla., a retired employee of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and of the Jewish faith.
Surviving are sons, Cory Dean Saxe of the home, Joseph Alan Saxe of Randleman; daughter and husband, Anne "Maureen" Saxe and Erik Taylor of the home; mother, Marilyn Dubinsky of the home; sisters, Roberta Karp and Diane Saxe, both of Boston, Mass., Arlene Hinton of Atlanta, Ga., Gail Ruder of Palm Springs, Calif.; granddaughter, MacKenzie Lyn Taylor of the home.

RAMSEUR - Elijah B. "Rusty" Morris, 78, of 112 Spring Grove Drive, Mooresville, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Hunters-ville Oaks Nursing Home, Huntersville.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Alvin Keener and the Rev. Morris Sellars officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, a self-employed auto mechanic and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are wife, Pauline Brady Morris of Mooresville; son, David Morris of Trenton, N.J.; daughters, Beverly Davis of Mooresville, Mary Patterson of Raleigh; sister, Martha Keener of Smithfield; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

LIBERTY - Eugene "Gene" H. Hester, 39, of 250 Pickett Circle, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Rex Hospital, Raleigh.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Jim Scherer officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County and a graduate of Eastern Randolph High School and N.C. State University.

EAGLE SPRINGS - Annie Morgan Sanders, 86, of 523 Etta Bell Road, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at St. Joseph of the Pines Health Center.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Browns Chapel Christian Church, Robbins. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Moore County and a homemaker.
Surviving are sons, Frank Sanders of Pinebluff, Winfred "Boots" Sanders and Harold Sanders, both of Eagle Springs; daughter, Shirley Garner of Eagle Springs; sister, Maggie Wicker of Robbins; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was a native of Guilford County and a retired employee of Ram Tie Co.

He was a native of Mt. Gilead, a U.S. Army veteran and a former employee in the Continuing Education division at the University of Houston in Texas.

He was a native of Moore County, a Vietnam era U.S. Army veteran and a retired driver from Cardinal Trucking, Concord.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. - Mary Louella Maness Scott, 78, of 101 Odenhal Ave., died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Shady Grove Hospital, Rockville, Md.
Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Foust officiating.
She was a native of Randolph County and attended Seagrove High School. She was a former beautician, a graduate of Greensboro School of Cosmetology, a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church and a guitarist and pianist who performed with local groups.
Surviving are husband, William Houston Scott of the home; sons, William H. Scott Jr. of Boonesboro, Md., Tommy Scott of Adamstown, Md.; brother, David Arnold Maness of Concord; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

SILER CITY - Ronell "Nell" Hamrick Hairr, 82, of 519 S. Sixth Ave., died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at SunBridge Care Facilities, Siler City.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park.
She was a native of Rutherford County, the widow of Franklin Gentry Hairr Sr. and a member of the Fidelis Sunday School class and the WMU at her church. She was a retired secretary with Hickory Mountain Farms, Siler City, and a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club and the Chatham Hospital Auxiliary.
Surviving are son, Frank G. Hairr Jr. of Pleasant Garden; daughter, Frieda H. Hackney of Siler City; sisters, Virginia Thompson and Sarah Champion, both of Forest City; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

TROY - The Rev. George Everett "Shorty" Hawkins, 76, formerly of Kinston, died, Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, Albemarle, with the Rev. Glen Hancock officiating. Burial will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
He pastored for 15 years
in the N.C. Conference of the United Methodist Church, seven years in the South Georgia Conference and 10 years of non-denominational ministry.
Surviving are wife, Eleanor Nichols Hawkins; daughters, Betty H. Green of Troy and Pamela H. Luton of Albemarle; sons, Christopher Forrest Hawkins of Fitzgerald, Ga., Mark Wayne Hawkins of Monroe, Daniel Everett Hawkins of Salt Lake City, Utah, Joseph Kendall Hawkins and Benjamin Eric Hawkins, both of Charlotte; brother, Alexander Hawkins of Wilmington; sisters, Alma H. King of Comfort and Bronell H. King of Pink Hill.

ASHEBORO - Nellie West Cox, 88, of 124 Dixon St., Asheboro, died Wed-nesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. John S. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
She was the widow of Delton Cox and a member of the Sunshine Club and the Live Embers. She was a volunteer at Brian Center Nursing Home, a retired nurse from Randolph Hospital and assisted Social Services with its food program.
Surviving are son, Bob Cox of Asheboro; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Bruce S. Calicutt
ASHEBORO - Bruce Seymour Calicutt, 91, formerly of Mack Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Barry Wall officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Friends Meeting Cemetery, with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Fleta Lewallen Calicutt and a retired employee of General Electric after 21 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, and a former superintendent and Sunday School teacher at Hopewell Friends Meeting. He later attended Amity Hills Baptist Church.
Surviving are son, Timothy Callicutt of Asheboro; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Saturday.

He was a native of Guilford County, a backhoe operator and self-employed. He was a member of Sophia United Church of Christ, where he was on the board of deacons, trustees, church council and church choir. He was a member of the men's fellowship of the church and the "Rich Hill" singing group.
Surviving are wife, Arlene Cecil Hill of the home; daughters, Dwanna Lambert of Randleman, Annette Wallace of Pennsylvania, Kathy Davis of Salisbury; sons, Adam Hill of Sophia, David Hill of Salisbury; brothers, Lloyd Hill and Carson Hill, both of Archdale, Clifford Hill of High Point, James "J.C." Hill of Sophia; sisters, Lydia Furr and Alice Johnson, both of High Point, Frances Spainhour, Gladys Latham, Susie Hill, all of Sophia; nine grandchildren.
