ASHEBORO - Farrell Preston Wilson, 66, of 1453 Briarcliff Drive, Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cross Road Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Johnny R. Henderson and the Rev. Lee Ziegler officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Christian Church Cemetery.
A native of Randolph County, he was a 1955 graduate of Asheboro High School and had attended Davidson Community College and High Point College. He served in law enforcement in Randolph County and with the National Guard and was a former teacher at Central Davidson High School.
Surviving are wife, Cynthia Pritchard Wilson; sons, Randy D. Wilson of Asheboro, Robby D. Wilson of Greenwood, S.C.; sister, Gladys Mae Lambe of Asheboro; five grandchildren.

RANDLEMAN - Catherine C. Coble, 75, of Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 8606 U.S. 220 North, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Homer Dawkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Guilford County and a homemaker.
Surviving are daughters, Helen Jones, Maude Nobles, Amy Holland, Barbara Coble, all of Randleman; son, Charles T. Coble of Randleman; 18 grandchildren 26 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the church 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, other times at the home of Barbara Coble, 271 St. Peter Church Road, Randleman.

RAMSEUR - Talton G. "Talley" Cox, 91, of 5528 Joe Dean Trail, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Parks Cross Roads Christian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. James Turner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, a retired farmer and a deacon and trustee at his church.
Surviving are son, Joe Dean Cox of Ramseur; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

RAMSEUR - Garland Jones Hopkins, 75, of Roxboro Road, Durham, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Rose Manner Health Care Center, Durham.
Graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Maple Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Mary Miller officiating.
He was a native of Randolph County, a retired employee of Carolina Container Co. and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.
Surviving are son, Garland J. Hopkins Jr. of Santa Barbara, Calif.; daughters, Rama Mills, Retta Walpole, both of Durham; sister, Opal Carrick of High Point; two grandchildren.

DENTON - Billy Ray Shaw, 80, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at Wesley Long Hospital, Greensboro.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Central United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Joe Collins officiating. Burial will be in Denton Town Cemetery.
He was a native of Davidson County and the retired owner/operator of Denton Cleaners. He was a graduate of Denton High School where he was named Best Athlete and Davidson County Player of the Year in 1940, a member of the Denton Sports Hall of Fame and had attended Catawba College. He was a member of the Denton Lions Club and a World War II Merchant Marines veteran.
Surviving are wife, Betty Jo Glover Shaw of Denton; sons, Denny Shaw of Prospect, Ky., William Shaw of Greensboro; daughters, Vivian McFadden of Rock Hill, S.C., Belva Williams of Archdale; sisters, Wilma S. Wood, Libby S. Hall, both of Denton; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Wake Forest and a graduate of Meredith College. She was a volunteer for over 20 years with Randolph Hospital Gray Ladies, a member of the Sorosis Club, a former member of DAR and a volunteer with the United Way. She was the widow of Samuel Davis Cranford.

She was a native of Butler, Pa. She was an Independent Missionary for 32 years, serving eight years in Cuba and 24 years in Peru.
