He was a native of Johnston County and a retired sawmill worker.
Surviving is sister, Marie Adams of Asheboro.

MT. GILEAD - Jasper Paul Lawler, 83, of 411 Pee Dee Road, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Graveside service, with military honors, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wadeville United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Glenn Hancock officiating.
He was a native of Greenville, S.C., a member of Wadeville United Methodist Church and a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran and a retired Senior Master Sergeant.
Surviving are sisters, Doris Lawler of San Diego, Calif., Mildred Lazar of Alpine, Calif.; half brother, Chaney Lawler of Alabama.
There will be no visitation.

ASHEBORO - Venson Wood Loflin, 87, of Cross Road Retirement Community, Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt and the Rev. Bonnie Preston Harris officiating. Burial will be in Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, a retired employee of Laughlin Hosiery Mill after 47 years and a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, where he was a former Sunday School teacher of the Adult Men's Class. He was a charter member of the Tabernacle Lions Club, where he formerly served as president, secretary/treasurer and district governor. He was a former member of the Tabernacle Fire District Board of Directors and a former member of the Randolph County Board of Education.
Surviving are wife, Pearl Gallimore Loflin; daughter, Brenda L. Jones of Greensboro; brother, Troy Loflin of Asheboro; sisters, Juanita Winslow of Jackson Creek, Kate Moore, Lois Shoffner, Hazel Phillips, all of Asheboro.
The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

He was a native of Davidson County, the widower of Eugenia Pike Miller, a retired employee of Walter Roberts Realty and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
Surviving are daughter, Betty Miller of the home; sister, Lena Brewer of Asheboro.

TROY - Helen Bulla Holder, 84, of 199 Byrd St., died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living, Candor.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Mike Elliott officiating.
She was a native of Randolph County and co-owner and co-operator of Holder's Restaurant in Troy.
Surviving are husband, R.C. Holder of the home; sons, Jerry Holder of Troy, Randy Holder of Newport News, Va.; two granddaughters; one great-grandson.
The family will be at the church immediately following the service, other times at the home of Jerry Holder, 121 Alexander Road, Troy.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a Purple Heart recipient.

He was a native of Moore County, the widower of Ruby Bundren Garner, a retired employee of Copeland Fabrics after 46 years, and a charter member of Piedmont Baptist Church, where he served as Adult Sunday School teacher and on the Board of Trustees. He later became a member of Pleasant View Assembly of God where he was the Adult Sunday School class teacher and a board member.
Surviving are wife, Susie Jefferson Minor Garner of the home; daughter, Carolyn Boggs of Graham; stepson, Ronnie Minor of Graham; stepdaughter, Pamela Minor Russell of Burlington; brother, Boyce "Bill" Garner of Burlington; sister, Myrtle G. Freeman of Star; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Ivey Whitney Hill, a retired employee of Archdale Manufacturing in High Point and of the Quaker faith.
