DENTON - Willie Adams Jr., 66, of Oak Grove Church Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Gravel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Johnston County and a retired sawmill worker.

Surviving is sister, Marie Adams of Asheboro.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Jasper P. Lawler
MT. GILEAD - Jasper Paul Lawler, 83, of 411 Pee Dee Road, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.

Graveside service, with military honors, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wadeville United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Glenn Hancock officiating.

He was a native of Greenville, S.C., a member of Wadeville United Methodist Church and a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran and a retired Senior Master Sergeant.

Surviving are sisters, Doris Lawler of San Diego, Calif., Mildred Lazar of Alpine, Calif.; half brother, Chaney Lawler of Alabama.

There will be no visitation.

Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, is in charge of arrangements.

Annie B. Lucas
ROBBINS - Annie Brower Lucas, 100, of 1092 Leaman Road, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at Pinelake Nursing Home, Carthage.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Zion A.M.E. Zion Church, with the Rev. A.C. Winfield officiating. Burial will be New Zion Cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Sarah Boggins of Richmond, Va., Margaret Lucas of New Jersey; sister, Mary B. Sawyer of Robbins.

Person Funeral Home, Robbins, is in charge of arrangements.

Venson W. Loflin
ASHEBORO - Venson Wood Loflin, 87, of Cross Road Retirement Community, Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt and the Rev. Bonnie Preston Harris officiating. Burial will be in Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired employee of Laughlin Hosiery Mill after 47 years and a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, where he was a former Sunday School teacher of the Adult Men's Class. He was a charter member of the Tabernacle Lions Club, where he formerly served as president, secretary/treasurer and district governor. He was a former member of the Tabernacle Fire District Board of Directors and a former member of the Randolph County Board of Education.

Surviving are wife, Pearl Gallimore Loflin; daughter, Brenda L. Jones of Greensboro; brother, Troy Loflin of Asheboro; sisters, Juanita Winslow of Jackson Creek, Kate Moore, Lois Shoffner, Hazel Phillips, all of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Elmer J. Miller
ASHEBORO - Elmer Jerome Miller, 93, of 643 Browers Chapel Road, Asheboro, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Bonnie Preston Harris officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County, the widower of Eugenia Pike Miller, a retired employee of Walter Roberts Realty and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Betty Miller of the home; sister, Lena Brewer of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Bobby L. Blue
TROY - Bobby Lee Blue, 70, of 262 Old Thayer Mill Road, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gary Rutherford and the Rev. Wayne Vuncannon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County and a retired employee of the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Surviving are daughters, Gwen Sedberry of Sanford, Tracie Cole of Asheboro; sons, Kevin A. Blue and Bryan Blue, both of Troy; brothers, Ty Blue and James "Nook" Blue, both of Troy, Calvin Blue of Augusta, Ga., Bill Blue of Mt. Gilead; sister, Katherine Ormsby of Wilmington; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Tracie Cole, 1106 Cliff Road, Asheboro.

Helen B. Holder
TROY - Helen Bulla Holder, 84, of 199 Byrd St., died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living, Candor.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Mike Elliott officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County and co-owner and co-operator of Holder's Restaurant in Troy.

Surviving are husband, R.C. Holder of the home; sons, Jerry Holder of Troy, Randy Holder of Newport News, Va.; two granddaughters; one great-grandson.

The family will be at the church immediately following the service, other times at the home of Jerry Holder, 121 Alexander Road, Troy.

Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, is in charge of arrangements.

Robert J. Bennett
TROY - Robert Jackson "R.J." Bennett, 77, of 184 Rocky Creek Drive, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at V.A. Medical Center, Durham.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. Sam Wilson and the Rev. Martin Davis officiating. Burial will be in Star House of Praise Cemetery, Star.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a Purple Heart recipient.

Surviving are daughters, Cynthia Freeman of Biscoe, Celia Brown of Siler City; brother, C.G. Bennett of Star; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Esther M. Powers
ROBBINS - Esther Maness Powers, 64, of 161 Cecil Road, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at her home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highfalls Friends Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ben Hurley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and a retired spinner at Ramtex in Ramseur.

Surviving are husband, Carlton E. Powers of the home; sons, Jimmy Ray Brower of Seagrove, Johnny Brower and Gregory Brower, both of Eagle Springs; sister, LuAnn McNeill of Robbins; brother, Bill Maness of Robbins; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

William B. Garner
ELON - William Baxter "Jake" Garner, 77, of 197 Milesville Road, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home, Graham, with the Rev. Gary Loftis and the Rev. Ron Boggs officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Cliff United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, the widower of Ruby Bundren Garner, a retired employee of Copeland Fabrics after 46 years, and a charter member of Piedmont Baptist Church, where he served as Adult Sunday School teacher and on the Board of Trustees. He later became a member of Pleasant View Assembly of God where he was the Adult Sunday School class teacher and a board member.

Surviving are wife, Susie Jefferson Minor Garner of the home; daughter, Carolyn Boggs of Graham; stepson, Ronnie Minor of Graham; stepdaughter, Pamela Minor Russell of Burlington; brother, Boyce "Bill" Garner of Burlington; sister, Myrtle G. Freeman of Star; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Mary S. Hill
ASHEBORO - Mary Agnes Stilley Hill, 92, formerly of Sophia, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Reece Wall officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Ivey Whitney Hill, a retired employee of Archdale Manufacturing in High Point and of the Quaker faith.

Surviving are daughters, Peggy Heath of Randleman, Pearl Hoffman of Asheboro; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Henrietta M. Phillips
LIBERTY - Henrietta Moore Phillips, 86, of 4875 Liberty Grove Road, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at the home.

A memorial service will be held in the spring.

She was a native of Randolph County, a 1935 graduate of Liberty High School and of the Quaker faith. She was a member of the Flower Lovers Garden Club and the Better Breathing Club.

Surviving are sister, Dell M. Jordan of Liberty; niece, Nancy J. Holt of the home.

The family will be at the home of Nancy and Homer Holt, 4875 Liberty Grove Road, Liberty, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, is in charge of arrangements.

Pearl Harris
DENTON - Pearl Peacock Harris, 85, of Anderson Street, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Vernon Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Denton Town Cemetery.

She was a Davidson County native, retired from Burlington Industries and the widow of R.G. "Bob" Harris.

Surviving are daughters, Audrey Thompson of Greensboro, Shearra Jackson of Winston-Salem and Barbara Anderson of Charlotte; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday.

Jennifer S. Owens
WILSON - Jennifer Sessoms Owens, 26, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Highfalls Friends Meeting, Highfalls, with the Rev. Blaine Hughes and the Rev. Billy Joe Brady officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are parents, Robert L. Sessoms Jr. and Connie Sessoms of Wilson.

The family will be at Joyner's Funeral Home, Wilson, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday; 1-2 p.m. Thursday at Highfalls Friends Meeting; Thursday morning at the home of Jackie Upchurch, 120 Friesen Road, Highfalls; and other times at 3102 Quinn Drive, Wilson.
