SILER CITY - Virginia Jones McLaughlin, 68, of 112 W. Shannon Road, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at West End United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Farmer officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Surviving are husband, Daffy McLaughlin of Siler City; daughter, Kathy M. Gardner of Greensboro; half sisters, Marie Hollingsworth, Evelyn Thompson, Gayle Bryant, Susan Beard, all of Alabama.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

ROBBINS - Coy Holt McNeill, 91, of 747 Hemp St., died Friday, July 10, 1998, at Pinehurst Nursing Center.

Raeford Dougan "Tommy" Parker, 73, of 4359 Golden Meadow Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. George McDowell officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Burlington Industries after 37 years, was retired from Brian Nursing Center and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post #45.

Surviving are wife, Cletus Hoover Parker of the home; son, Donald Parker of Denton; sisters, Edith Hancock of Sophia, Frances Allred of Asheboro; one grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

He was a native of Randolph County and employed as a machinist with Car Quest Auto Parts, Denton.

Surviving are wife, Linda Allen Russell of the home; son, James A. Russell Jr. of Denton; stepson, Mark Edward Hall of Nashville, Tenn.; daughters, Shelia Ann La Bonte of Franklin, Tenn., Kimberly Anne Lyons of Lexington; stepdaughter, Angela L. Craven of Denton; brother, Jay Russell of Denton; sisters, Ruby Holdeman of Elkhart, Ind., Janet Zimmer of Deland, Fla., Lib Craven, Sherry Bailey, both of Denton; eight grandchildren.

Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, is in charge of the arrangements.

CANDOR - Sara Elizabeth Thompson Grey, 69, of 307 E. Harris St., died Friday, July 10, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Monday at McKinnon Cemetery, Derby Community, with the Rev. Fred Richardson officiating.

She was a native of Richmond County, of the Baptist faith and was an inspector for Perdue.

Surviving are husband, Carl Grey of the home; sons, Carl Grey Jr. of Candor, Gene DeWitt of Mebane; brothers, Jack Thompson, Bud Thompson, both of Rockingham; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 2-3 p.m. Monday.

C. Holt McNeill Jr.

ROBBINS - Coy Holt McNeill Jr., 91, of 747 Hemp St. Ext., died Friday, July 10, 1998, in Pinehurst Nursing Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, Robbins, with the Rev. Ernest Ferrell officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and was a former employee of Robbins Mills.

Surviving are wife, Virle Roach McNeill of the home; daughters, Sheila M. Hobgood of Kinston, Gail Mabe of Robbins; step-son, William Edward Bradley of Yorktown, Va.; sister, Roberta M. Welch of Bennett; brother, Leland McNeill of Robbins; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

EAGLE SPRINGS - Mettie Morgan Phillips, 93, of 13865 N.C. 24/27, died Friday, July 10,1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Rock Hill Friends Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Earl Dulaney and the Rev. V.L. Hussey officiating.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Obert Phillips, a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church and the Maness-Morgan Bible Class, and was a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Noah O. Phillips of Eagle Springs; daughter, Lavon Phillips of Ashley Heights; sister, Mattie M. Upchurch of Monroe; two grandsons; one great grandaughter.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Nellie W. Joyce

SILER CITY - Nellie White Joyce, 83, of 1405 Palmers Chapel Church Road, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at 502 E. Elk Lane.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Edward Hill Friends Meeting, where she was a member, with Dr. Linda Greene and the Rev. Gene Earle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School class at her church.

Surviving are daughters, Linda J. Short of Siler City, Jean J. Womble of Greensboro; son, Dickie Joyce of Rome, Ga.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy S. Headen
Dorothy Staley Headen, 88, of 230 Presnell St., Asheboro, died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home Asheboro, with the Rev. Gene Horton officiating.

She was a former resident of Staley and a homemaker.

Surviving is a son, Eddie Headen of Graham.

The family will be at the funeral home 3:30-4 p.m. Sunday.

J.C. Lewis

HIGH POINT - James Coppage "J.C." Lewis, 72, of 2610 Woodruff Ave., died Friday, July 17, 1998, at his residence.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Bensalem Presbyterian Church in Candor, with the Rev. Darrell Garner and the Rev. Tom Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, retired after 20 years with the U.S. Navy, a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and served in the Merchant Marine for 25 years.

Surviving are stepdaughter, Barbara Kennedy of Milwaukee, Ore.; brothers, Clyde Lewis and Newton Lewis, both of High Point; sister, Mrs. Glenn Kennedy of Eagle Springs.

Cumby Funeral Home, Eastchester Drive, is in charge of arrangements.

Lucy M. Lewis

CONWAY, S.C. - Lucy Marie Moffitt Lewis, 75, of 18th Ave., died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Conway Hospital.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Friday at Goldfinch Funeral Home in Conway. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star.

Surviving are husband, Blake Lewis of the home; daughters, Kathy Helton of Summerville, S.C., and Patti Martin of Conway, S.C.; brother, J.D. Moffitt of Crawfordsville, Fla.; sisters, Lola Jones of Asheboro and Fannie Burke of Norcross, Ga.; four grandchildren.

Teena T. Lockhart

TRINITY - Teena Ann Tuggle Lockhart, 50, of 4116 Hillview Court, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Rankin Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. G. Lee Pollock officiating. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Jamestown, a former employee of Old Stone Bank and a nursery worker at her church.

Surviving are husband, James Edward Lockhart of the home; daughters, Wendy Roach of Archdale and Amanda Price of Trinity; mother, Dahlia H. Tuggle of Jamestown; brothers, Marvin Tuggle and Dennis Tuggle, both of Greensboro, and Billy Tuggle of High Point; two grandchildren.

SILER CITY - William Clarence Moody, 62, of 307 S. Cedar Ave., died Friday, July 17, 1998, at his home.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. J.R. Bouldin and the Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Bear Creek.

Surviving are wife, Betty Denkins Moody of Siler City; mother, Cora Dunn Moody of Bear Creek; daughters, Betty Jean Carter of Sanford, Phyllis Bayles of Siler City and JoAnn Moody of Illinois; son, William Earle Moody of Oklahoma; brothers, Thomas Moody and Earle Moody, both of Bear Creek; sisters, Eva Bare of Siler City, Lois Stollings of Burlington and Margie Blalock and Lucille Moody, both of Bear Creek; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Evelyn C. Whitlow

DENTON - Evelyn Cranford Whitlow, 81, of Buena Vista Nursing Home, formerly of Rowe Road, Lexington, died Saturday, July 18, 1998, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Denton, with the Rev. Charles Moses officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park, Lexington.

She was a native of Davidson County, a homemaker and the widow of John Boyd Whitlow.

Surviving are sons, Sherman G. Whitlow of Denton and Jimmy Whitlow of Italy; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday and other times at the residence of Sherman Whitlow on N.C. 109 South, Denton.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Liberty, with the Rev. William Rice officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Kelvin Wright and Randy Wright, both of Staley; sister, Epsie Yow of Pleasant Garden; two grandchildren.

She was a native of Rome, Ga., a homemaker, a volunteer for Red Cross bloodmobiles, Girl Scouts and the VA hospital in Salisbury and was a member of the Little Gate Garden Club and the Garden Council.

Surviving are husband, Robert L. Cheatham Jr. of the home; sisters, Eunice Heilig of Asheboro, Vera Stansell of Monroe, Mich.; brother, Charles Wheatley of Charlotte.
