Jack E. Owenby
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Jack Earl Owenby, 71, of West Covina, Calif., died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003.

A memorial service was held at Faith Community Church. A private burial will be held at a later date in western North Carolina.

He was a native of Briartown, N.C., a U.S. Army veteran and a retired distributor of petroleum and automotive products in Los Angeles. He opened the first drag race tracks in Washington, South Dakota and Wyoming.

Surviving are wife, Ruth L Owenby: son, Douglas A. Owenby of West Covina, Calif.; mother, Fay Duvall Owenby of Asheboro.; brother, Clinton V. Owenby of Aurora, Colo.; sisters, Betty James of Clyde, Barbara Gaffney of Naples, Fla., Jane Owenby of North Carolina; three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Jack Owenby Memorial Fund, 1500 W. Covina Parkway, Suite 205, West Covina, Calif. 91790-2707.

Melanie S. Hinson
RAMSEUR - Melanie Singleton Hinson, 34, of 1313 Holly Leaf Road Ext., died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harmony Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dan McKenney officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Hartford County, Md., formerly employed with Ramtex and The Smoke Stop and attended Harmony Baptist Church.

Surviving are husband, Jesse Lee Hinson Jr.; son, Matthew Lee Hinson of the home; brothers, Ralph Lee Neal Jr. and Frank Dean Neal, both of Browns Summit; father and stepmother, George P. and Anga Singleton of Asheboro; mother, Wanda Whitaker of Browns Summit; grandmother, Elizabeth Barker of Havre De Grace, Md.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Dorothy S. Smith
HIGH POINT - Dorothy Southern Smith, 70, of 414 Ennis St., died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at the home of her son in Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Davis Funerals and Cremations, High Point, with the Rev. Ralph Pruitt officiating.

She was a native of Pulaski, Va., the widow of Edgar E. Smith Jr., a retired employee of U.S. Furniture Co. and a member of Cloverdale Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Edgar E. Smith III of High Point, Benjamin A. Smith of Asheboro, Charles E. Smith of Stamford, Conn.; daughter, Matilda Hendry of High Point; sister, Loretta Rice of High Point; brothers, Ed Southern of High Point, Hentzel Southern of Newark, Ohio; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Martha M. Bare
ROBBINS - Martha Chamberlin McLeod Bare, 85, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Carol Hearl, in Abingdon, Va.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Robbins, where she was a former member, with the Rev. C. Gene Booker and the Rev. Keith Burrows officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery, Robbins.

She was a native of Wheelersburg, Ohio, the widow of R.W. McLeod and Paul Bare, a member of Robbins Chapter #283 Order of Eastern Star and a member of Rocky River Baptist Church, Siler City.

Surviving are daughter, Carol Hearl of Abingdon, Va.; stepdaughters, Betty Reid, Paulette Lazar, Faye Moses, all of Siler City; stepson, Jimmy Bare of Siler City; three grandchildren.

Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, is in charge of arrangements.

Garrett B. Moore
ASHEBORO - Garrett Blaine Moore, 77, of 2031 Lineberry St., Asheboro, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Balfour Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. John Noble and the Rev. Dwight Mabry officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors.

He was a Montgomery County native, a member of American Legion Post 45 and a member of the J.L. Benson Sunday School Class at his church. He was a former employee with the National Guard and was retired from Banner Hosiery.

Surviving are wife, Sallie Harris Moore; sons, Fred B. Moore of Asheboro and Kenneth A. Moore of Greensboro; sisters, Rachel Epps and Patricia Moore, both of Troy; brothers, William Moore of Randleman and James Moore of Widefield, Colo.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday; other times at the home.

Randy L. Friddle
ASHEBORO - Randy Lee Friddle, 43, of Asheboro, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home, Burleson, Texas. Burial will be in Caddo Cemetery in Joshua, Texas.

He was a native of Fort Worth, Texas, a computer drafter for Envision Corp. and formerly umpired Pony League baseball.

Surviving are wife, Dee Dee Steele Friddle of Asheboro; daughters, Robyne Clausen of Burleson, Texas, Meagan Friddle of Asheboro; mother, Beverly M. Friddle of Cleburne, Texas; brother, Rick Friddle of Joshua, Texas; sister, Suzie Friddle of Joshua, Texas.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Harold L. Wright
FRANKLINVILLE - Harold Lloyd Wright, 77, of 795 Pleasant Ridge Road, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Ridge Christian Church with Randy Robbins, the Rev. Danny Miller and the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was a Randolph County native, a retired farmer and sawmiller, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are son, Phillip Wright of Liberty; daughters, Lola Keene-Swaim, Merita Wall and Nancy Lucas, all of Franklinville; brother, David Wright of Asheboro, sisters, Pauline Bescher of Denton, Alease Case of Whittier, and Hilda Williams of Hendersonville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m., Wednesday; other times at the home of Lola Keene-Swaim, 821 Pleasant Ridge Road, Franklinville.

Nannie C. Burch
RAMSEUR - Nannie Callicutt Burch, 89, of 1704 Watkins St., died Monday, March 10, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Falls Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Russell Chriscoe officiating.

She was a Montgomery County native, a homemaker and a member of Cedar Falls Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Doug Burch of Ramseur; daughter, Linda Brady of Ramseur; stepson, Sonny Burch of Jonesville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; one stepgreat-grandchild.

The family will be at the home of Linda Brady, 174 Elizabeth St., Ramseur.

Orren L. Edwards
STALEY - Orren Lee Edwards, 80, of 714 Shady Grove Church Road, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Shady Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Larry Martin officiating. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired sawmill owner/operator and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Christine Kivett Edwards of the home; son, Charles Lee Edwards of Staley; brothers, Troy Edwards and Tommy Edwards, both of Staley; sisters, Clara Burgess and Marie Kearns, both of Staley.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m., Wednesday; other times at the residence.

Lois W. Causey
TRINITY - Lois Louise Workman Causey, 81, of 9258 U.S. 64 W., died Monday, March 10, 2003, at Thomasville Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hillside Park Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. John Wheeles and the Rev. Jeff Dawkins officiating. Burial will follow in Hughes Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

She was a Davidson County native, a former Sunday school teacher, a member of the Women's Missionary Union and the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class at her church. She was the widow of Charles C. Causey.

Surviving are daughters, Ann C. Sarver of Goose Creek, S.C. and Patty Wells of Hendersonville; sons, Dr. Gerald Causey of Chocowinity, Chuck Causey of Richlands, Curtis Causey of Asheboro; brother, Varis Workman of Thomasville; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, 7-9 p.m., Wednesday; other times at the home of Jerry Causey, 13754 Old U.S. 64 E., Lexington.

Dr. Grover C. Wrenn Sr.
BURLINGTON - Dr. Grover Cleveland Wrenn Sr., 92, of 3745 Wade Coble Drive, formerly of Siler City, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Twin Lakes Center, Burlington.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Siler City Presbyterian Church with Sue Flippin officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.

Dr. Wrenn was a Davidson County native and a founding member of Siler City Presbyterian Church where he served as ordained elder and clerk of the session. He was a member of the Siler City Masonic Lodge #403 AF&AM, the Siler City Lions Club and one of the founders of Home Savings and Loan, director and served as chairman of the board until its merger with Capital Bank in 1995. He also served as chief of staff of The Chatham Hospital and he was mayor of Siler City from 1953-55. He was the widower of Virginia Wrenn.

Surviving are sons, Grover C. Wrenn Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., Stephen W. Wrenn of Marietta, Ga., and C. Mitchell Wrenn of Burlington; sisters, Vallie Raper of Thomasville, Eunice Johnson of Winston-Salem, Ruth Monsees of Apex, Blanche Pollock of Greenville, S.C., Maurice Tanner of Siler City and Jean Andrews of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother, Willis Wrenn of Siler City; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Wednesday; other times at the home of Willis Wrenn, 526 W. Glendale Avenue, Siler City.

Reather C. Surratt
DENTON - Reather Clee Surratt, 93, formerly of Denton, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Mountain Vista Health Park, Denton.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Alleghany United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dan McClure and the Rev. Mike McClellan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was a Davidson County native and had worked for Klopman Mills and the Davidson County Department of Sanitation.

Surviving are wife, Nellie Russell Surratt of Denton; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6-8 p.m., Wednesday; other times at the home of a granddaughter, Kim Covington, 143 Tamworth Road, Denton.

Kathleen R. Hunt
SANFORD - Kathleen Margaret Reed Hunt, 84, of 700 Westover Drive, formerly of Siler City, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at Oak Haven Retirement Home, Sanford.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City, with the Rev. A.C. Reed officiating.

She was a native of Fairfield County, S.C., a retired bookkeeper and a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and Mary Beth Group. She was the widow of James Paul Hunt.

Surviving are daughter, Sandra Hunt Wilson of Sanford; sister, Ruth R. Davis of Winnsboro, S.C.; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Faye Tysinger
ASHEBORO - Josie Faye Farrington Tysinger, 77, of 156 E. Academy St., Asheboro, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Jim Honeycutt officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Talmadge L. Tysinger, a homemaker and a Red Cross volunteer.

Surviving are daughter, Judy T. Thompson of Lexington; son, Terry Tysinger of Randleman; brother, Richard Farrington of Asheboro; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of her son, 4171 Brown Oaks Road, Randleman.
