ASHEBORO - Ernest Newman Harvell, 87, of 846 Rockcliff Terrace, Asheboro, died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at Wesley Long Community Hospital, Greensboro.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Callicutt Memorial Chapel, with Johnny Harvell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Kate Callicutt Harvell and formerly employed with Eddinger Lumber Co. and Pegram-West Lumber Co. He was the owner of Harvell's Woodworking in Greensboro and a charter member of Vandalia Presbyterian Church in Greensboro.
Surviving are daughters, Peggy Bunting of Chapin, S.C., Lyndia Fields of Irving, Texas; sons, Roger Harvell of Randleman, Ernest "Steve" Harvell of Summerfield; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Rowan County and formerly employed as manager of Tank and Tummy in Ramseur.

He was a native of Moore County and a graduate of M.C.C. Pottery School.

He was a native of Chatham County, a retired dairy farmer, a deacon, member of the church choir, the Maranatha Sunday School Class and the Men's Ministries at his church. He served on the boards of Farm Bureau and the AG Business Council, was a member of the Cattleman's Association and the Aircraft Owner's Pilot Association and a private pilot.
Surviving are wife, Becky Brady Brooks of Siler City; daughter, Rhonda B. Wilkie of Siler City; son, Alan G. Brooks of Siler City; brother, Jimmy Brooks of Siler City; sisters, Estelle B. She was a Montgomery County native and attended Glendale Community College in Glendale, Ariz. She was a licensed Real Estate Salesperson with Coldwell Banker in Phoenix, Ariz., youth minister with White Tanks Baptist Church in Buckeye, Ariz., and a volunteer with St. Mary's Food Bank in Arizona.
Surviving are Boyce Smith; sons, Barry Smith of the home and Scott Smith of Seagrove; daughter, Jahala Julian of Franklinville; six grandchildren.
